Title: Amish Hair Pins Post by YesitsReal on Aug 30th, 2009 at 11:57pm
I've heard a lot about 'Amish Hair Pins' in this forum and in a couple of others. I was wondering, though...what is everyone talking about? Some people I know use the term to describe the plastic super-hold hairpins (incidentally, didn't think the Amish used much plastic), but I've seen them online as just regular straight v-shaped metal pins--no muss, no fuss (which sounds much more Amish to me). So which is it? And do they work as well as everyone says? Or do you have to have thick curly hair or something?
Thanks! |

Oh, yes! I love, love, love my Amish hair pins. The ones I have are stainless steel and are from www.plainlydressed.com. For me, they work better than any other hairpins partially because I do have thick hair that happens to be wavy. I think they'll work on anyone's hair as long as you have the right length and weave them in properly.

I totally agree with Sakina. I love my Amish Hairpins! I got them at the same place she purchased hers. I swear by them to hold my bun in place! I definately think you should consider getting a set. I think you get 12 for a few US dollars.

Can you feel the Amish Pins in your hair? I mean do they feel like they're pulling? It seems like the longer my hair gets, the more uncomfortable it is for me to wear bobby pins to hold my hair up. I have to constantly repostition them until it feels comfortable.

LD, my hair is pretty much at tailbone length and I don't feel them when I use 4 to put my hair up in a bun.

La Diosa, the Amish hairpins do not pull my hair. Bobby pins do that to me, too so I use them only on rare occasion when hair needs to be contained horizontally. I also have some decorative bobby pins, but use the AHP to hold up my hair.

Thanks, Curlgirl and Sakina...that's good to know. I'll have to try those.
And thank you, YesitsReal for starting this tread. Otherwise, I probably never would've heard about Amish hair pins. :) Sakina, what size pins do you buy? I'm asking you because I think our hair might be similar in length. |

Yes, definitely try these pins!!!! I buy all 4 sizes at once, and then mix and match depending on how my hair behaves on any given day/hairstyle. I probably use the 2-1/2" ones the most, and I like the 3" ones for special decorations.

Quick question about these pins.
How long do they take to arrive? I ordered mine like, two weeks ago, and haven't seen them yet. I was really hoping to have them by this weekend, for my martial arts belt test, or otherwise known as, two hours of brutal hair murder. |

You should have them by now. I'd contact them and ask, if you don't have them today.

Sometimes they take a while. I think its taken up to two weeks for me to get mine before. Hope they arrive soon!

:-/
Well, I do have today and tomorrow's mail left before I'm completely out of hope for the weekend. It would be just my luck if I ordered one set of each of the lengths offered, and they were out of one, and delayed the whole order to get that one size in. :'( |

Fingers are crossed that you get all sets that you ordered, either today or tomorrow! :)
