Title: Am I doing this right?
Post by Jilayne75 on Mar 25th, 2009 at 6:36pm
Okay, so yesterday I tried my very first ACV rinse (before that I have been using clarifying shamppoo) and was wondering if I was doing it right or not. So here's what I did:

1. I mixed a half a cup of ACV with 4 cups of water and shook it all up.
2. I shampooed, then poured the mixture over top of my head (is  that what you're supposed to do? I wasn't sure) I got a bit in my eyes, so that kind of sucked, but otherwise was fine.
3. Then, because my hair was feeling dry yesterday, I deep conditioned for half an hour. Then I rinsed it out.

Is that what you ladies do?

yep - that's about right (except for getting it into your eyes!!).  I shampoo, vinegar rinse, then condition.

You can adjust the ratio of vinegar to water, based on how you feel it works and what you think your hair needs.  I use a water bottle (think sports water bottle) to rinse my scalp.  It makes it easier to control and keep the mixture out of my eyes.

good! So when you mean ratio of vinegar to water, what does that mean? That I should increase or decrease the vinegar if it doesnt work well enough?
And good idea with the water bottle. I think I'll try that.

Yes, the ratio is the amount of vinegar to water.  To prevent over-drying the hair, try reducing the amount of vinegar.  As long as you get good results, you can reduce the vinegar.

That's about it. Pretty easy, huh? ;)

Fiji water bottles are great for making vinegar rinses because there's sort of a "fill line" near the bottom so you know exactly how much vinegar to pour in. I've used this method for years now with a 1L size Fiji bottle. ACV to the fill line, then fill the rest with bottled water, cap & shake, shake, shake, senora.

And pour the vinegar rinse along your hairline, dear, not in your eyes. ;D ;)

;Dhahaaha
Well, I tried not to get it in my eyes, but I was just pouring a bucket of it over my head, so it went over my face too! Yeah, when I think back on it that was a pretty stupid move. But whatever. I'lll learn from my experiences.

I have been doing my ACV rinses after my conditioning (when I use conditioner that is), bc I am paranoid about the demithicone O.o  Maybe I should try doing it after shampooing...

Definitely do your rinse after shampooing.
