Title: Ok, I give up.... Post by Nanzi on Feb 18th, 2009 at 1:04pm
I just registered, but I have been 8-) lurking for several months!! I have one burning question I must have answered!!!
What the heck are cones???????? I know to avoid them, but I don't know what they look like to run from. And is it ok to use a wooden comb when your hair is wet? I used mine and it lost a part of one tine and is now ragged there. Did I do that with water? or is the comb as cheep as it was cheap?(4$) I can sand it smooth. All that aside, I am a 65 yr old lady who needs to have her hair long to get up off her neck for reasons of heat, I think my thermostat is broken!! Actually I take a couple of drugs the doc says is giving me the power surges that make me sweat, heavily in the hair. My mostly still brown hair is just above BSL and I am growing out some perms that have done it dirty. My hairdresser and I have agreed no more perms. I love seeing all your secrets and experiences with your hair. Too bad I waited so long to let it grow forever, my forever is getting shorter!! Thanks for the help, Nan |

Welcome! I'll try to answer your questions - I'm sure others will pop in with their help as well.
-cones: slang for silicone derived ingredients. Some of these ingredients will build up on the hair, essentially smothering it. This deny's the hair of the moisture it needs to stay soft and prevent breakage and split ends. Wooden combs: Combing your wet hair with a wooden comb will not hurt your hair. However, the wood may be damaged if it is not dried and oiled or waxed. The wood will swell with the moisture which exposes the grain and could damage the hair. If you still like your comb, I'd just sand down the rough spot, then rub the spot with wax to seal it. I totally understand the need to keep hair off the neck and back - I'm there with you! |

I used my first wooden comb on wet hair all the time, and it warped, becoming a curved comb. It was subtle at first, then quite noticable, not quite a parenthesis (), but close. I don't use it on wet hair anymore. ;)

Thanks so much Ladies for the replies. I was pretty sure the answer to cones was that it was additives, but couldn't find it anywhere for sure.
I'll keep the comb out of wet hair. Thanks again, Nan |
