Hello everyone!  I picked up the curly girl book finally and hope to encourage my natural waves.  

I'm hoping for some suggestions for an appropriate conditioner to use to wash the scalp and work into the length.   I've done CO in the past, but always had multiple bottles, one for the scalp, one for the length, and usually another deep conditioner.  

I currently wash with suave clarifying conditioner mixed with a tiny bit of the pantene shampoo I am working through.  I haven't had look transitioning fully to c/o this time and have had to keep using shampoo.  Suggestions for a low poo option would be great too.  

I have looked at the jessicurl and devacurl lines and would like to try them out, but I am hoping to find a cheaper and local brand that I can start with.

I don't have any experience with local brands for curly hair.  I wholeheartedly recommend the Devacurl products.  Jessicurl didn't really work for me.

Trial and error...your hair might like some local stuff.  Check your health food store.  I think Jason and Giovanni make curly or dry lines.  Dry lines could get too moisturizing, so keep that in mind when looking.

Hi Sakina--I may just have to bite the bullet and spend the money.  Do you feel like the bottles last a while?  I know the book says to just use 1 tbsp, but in the past when I've done c/o and even now when I mix in a very small amount of shampoo I go through a lot of conditioner.  

I buy the 32oz conditioner and I still go through it pretty quickly.  When you're conditioning the ends, shampooing and then conditioning again, it goes fast.  The One Condition is my go to conditioner.  If I do a treatment I apply this after rinsing out the treatment 'cause I need the moisture.  I think living in Arizona may mean I use more conditioner than you might need.  I don't co anymore, it gunks up my scalp.  Also, I wash twice a week and do an acv rinse with each wash.  I feel it encourages my curls, keeps my scalp itchies in check and allows my conditioner to absorb better.

That is what I was afraid of.  Still eventually I may have to try it.

So far I am using the same conditioner/shampoo I have been (suave daily clarifying with a touch of the pantene shampoo I'm trying to get rid of and a thicker cholesterol conditioner on my ends), and scrunching my hair dry then scrunching in aloe gel and I can already tell a big difference.  I still feel like I'm a big frizz ball, but I'm getting a lot of compliments so I figure something must be working.  

Give plopping a try instead of scrunching to dry.
