Hi all-
I read somewhere on this site about someone who only dry-combs their hair (I forgot who it was or which place I read it here) and I am curious how many of you do this as opposed to wet combing in the shower while the conditioner is in your hair?

I've been doing the in-the-shower-thing for a long time and I'm wondering if I'm breaking off hair, but I also would like to know how only dry combing works for others of you with fine hair.  Does it tangle a lot or is it pretty easy to comb out after it dries without combing?  I want to try this next time I shampoo.  I had not thought about hair being weaker when it is wet and therefore more prone to breakage, but this makes perfect sense to me now.  Thanks to whoever posted that information!

I only dry comb and use my fingers in the shower.  I finger comb more than dry comb cause I just try not to mess with my hair too much.  I comb or brush when a style might require it and otherwise its fingers.

Maybe do an experiment?  Switch to finger combing in the shower and see what happens!

BTW, I'm 2c/3aMiii, so I'm not fine haired.

I have fine hair and have tried both wet and dry combing.  I actually find that wet-combing works best for me - I use a wide-tooth comb through my hair, very gently, after conditioning it.  I have tried washing my hair and then leaving it to dry before combing it but it was way to tangly by then.

I think I will try finger combing in the shower when I shampoo tomorrow and see what happens.  When my hair was about shoulder length I could just towel-squeeze and it was not too hard to comb when it was dry so I hope that the finger combing and squeeze drying will be the answer for me now.  Thanks for your input!

Well, everyone's hair is different and mine is no exception.  I tried finger combing and ended up with a tiny knot that had to be cut off.  It was so small that I can't even find it now, but for me I think wet combing with tons of conditioner in the shower with a really wide toothed comb is the only way I am going to be able to deal with this super fine hair of mine.  It tangles so easily.  I wish I could have done it the other way, but my hair seems stubborn.  Good luck to the rest of you with fine hair.  Any tips from any of you would be more than appreciated. :)

Like you, I have really fine hair and I used to wet comb, but found it too damaging and time consuming. I've never combed conditioner through my hair in the shower. To me, that just sounds like a recipe for disaster. But I used to use a detangling spray and comb through my hair after my shower.

These days, I just work a detangling leave-in crème through the length while my hair is wet and let it air dry. Combs don't touch my hair until it's completely dry. I've gotten those tiny little tangles too, but finger combing and regular combing before taking a shower helps with that.
