Title: Getting a Healthy Scalp
Post by Pixie on Feb 13th, 2008 at 6:07pm
It could just be because it's winter and the air is so darn dry, but my scalp has been really dry and flakey lately. I don't usually have dandruff, although I have had bouts of extreme eczema on my scalp. I have used Head and Shoulders shampoo for the last few weeks, but I'm not seeing an improvement. Can anyone suggest different shampoos or home remides for a healthy scalp?

Some years ago, I read that doing a vinegar rinse after every shampoo would cure dandruff. They say to do this until it's gone. Well, I tried it and it worked.

If your scalp is dry, however, you might try oiling it overnight. A few ladies here use oils when they do scalp massages. I know nothing about eczema, so perhaps you should talk to your dermatologist?

ACV rinses after every shampoo have really helped me.  Also, lifting my hair away from my scalp so the water can get all the way in there has made a big difference.  Before that I was having lots of itching and flaking like dry skin flakes.

I also apply oil to my scalp several times a week, and am now trying it every night.  I use an oil blend called Success Oil (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZmoonchiald) and I really like it.  Sometimes I use pure avocado oil, sesame oil or sunflower oil.  I use camellia oil on my ends.

Good Luck!  Remember, scalp is skin so treat it gently.

I was listening to the raidio the other day and they were talking about dandruff and itchy scalps. a recent study showed that there is a bacteria on every persons head that to the untrained eye looks like dandruff or dry skin. they said that the flakes you see on some people is the bacteria creating an infection. they also said that there is no shampoo or conditioner yet to help with this problem. they are however in the process of creating a shampoo and conditoner specifically made to treat what most of us think is dry skin (dandruff). it will be available through your doctor until they feel it is safe enough to put in on the market in other shampoos and conditioners.

dont be alrmed by the word bacteria. it is only on your head. it is not something that you can catch. there is no way to get rid of it beacause it is supposed to be there as a protection for your scalp (how ironic). so when people say they never have dandruff. that only means that the bacteria has not turned into an infection to cause dandruff.

so for anyone who has a problem with their scalp just know that they are working on something that will ease a lot of scalp problems. i hope this helps anyone who had a dry scalp/ dandruff problem.
