Title: Hair Question
Post by shackleford on Nov 26th, 2007 at 10:31pm
I showered yesterday morning and washed my hair. Typically, after I wash my hair, it's kind of poofy and maybe a little frizzy on the ends. Well, I got up for class this morning and didn't wash my hair. It looks really good right now. It's not frizzy or poofy at all. A couple of other people even said it looks really good. This is usually the case. About a day or so later after I've washed my hair, it looks really good. Why? How can I get it to look this way all the time? Thanks.

The natural oils from your scalp helps keep frizzies away.  When the hairshaft is dry and empty, hair is prone to frizz.  There's no weight to keep the hair down.
Do you use a conditioner?  A moisturizing one might help.  Perhaps try applying a drop or two of oil to your hair after you wash.  Jojoba, coconut, olive and my fav. camellia oils are popular with most of us here.

Also, your ends might need a trim if that is where the frizz is.

Well, I've used two-in-one shampoo and conditioners before, and my hair pretty much acted the same way as far as I can remember. I probably do need a little trim right, but again, even when I didn't really need a trim my hair acted the same way.

Sakina's suggestions are good.  Poofy hair is the result of it being dry.  Once you've slept on it, the natural oils are created and start coating the hair again, giving it the weight to reduce the poofiness.  Using a leave-in conditioner or a miniscule amount of an oil on the hair when it is still damp would probably give the best results.

You might also make sure you are using a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner.

Thanks for stopping by!

I know in my experience, at least, 2-in-1 S&Cs made my hair worse, frizzier, poofier, drier, Just plain horrible. Maybe try using a separate conditioner?

Ok, so, make sure I have a 2-in-1 that moisturizes. I forgot to mention that I use a blow dryer, too.

Are you supposed to wash your hair everyday? Every other day? What?

A separate shampoo & conditioner is a good idea if your hair is past chin length and/or if your 2-in-1 is making your scalp greasy.

How often you wash your hair depends upon your chemistry. Some people wash theirs every day, some can get away with washing once a week or even less. I personally wash my scalp every day and just use conditioners on the length. I only wash the entire length of my hair about twice a week, but that's just what works for me. It's a lot of trial & error. You just have to try this and that and see what works for you.

Good luck and happy growing.  :)
