Title: changes Post by Debr on Oct 30th, 2007 at 5:39pm
I have been noticing alot lately how quickly my hair is changing colors. I am wanting it to become more of this grey-white color. Is there a way I can bring out that color? I dont want to use chemicals cuz I just got my hair back healthy again. I have been using Pantene's shampoo/cond for greying hair and that has made it softer and shinier. Any suggestions?

I'm glad you're embracing your color change. Sorry I don't have any suggestions on how to bring those colors out. I think time is what it takes.
Good Luck!! |

According to my herbs books, here are some suggestions for herbal rinses for gray hair. For each of these, make a "tea" by simmering two ounces of the herb in 4 cups of water for 20 minutes in a covered saucepan, then cool and pour or spritz through your hair:
Hollyhock flowers remove yellow tones Betony highlights yellow tones Sage darkens gray and adds luster Also, I have used honey and lemon to lighten my dark hair, to allow the grays to blend in better. The honey made it really shiny and bouncy! Here's a photo after a honey/chamomile/mullein/lemon treatment, to compare to my avatar: FYI, if you try the honey, I noticed a much better result from more expensive alfalfa blossom honey than cheap clover honey... Ok Mellie, I am interested in the honey/lemon mixture. How much of each and where do I get the more expensive one? How often do I apply the mixture?
Do I use each time I shampoo, do I use after the conditioning process? Deb |

Hi Deb!
OK, great! Here's the recipe for the honey/lemon: I microwaved 1 cup of water on high for 2 minutes, then right away added a tea ball filled with chamomile flowers (I also used some mullein leaves but this isn't necessary, it is supposed to brighten hair though), and a good tablespoonful or two of the alfalfa blossom honey (I found this at my local Kroger grocery store). I think the closer to raw honey it is, the better it works, then the juice of a fresh lemon squeezed in. I put this on my hair with a tint brush, and sat on my porch in the sun for about 2 hours, then washed it out. I don't need to do this very often, once every week or two has seemed to work nicely. Please post your results! I'd love to see your before and after photos if you have a camera! :-) I am hoping that over time I can lighten my dark hair enough with the honey that the grays can come in nicely... Mellie |

Thanx Mellie, where I live there will be no sun for about 6 months :'(. Just wind, rain, snow, cold. I dont have a bonnet style hairdryer either. I will look for the honey in my local healthfood store.

Oh, I see! Maybe give it a try without the sun and keep us posted! :-)
