Title: Link for some handmade(?) combs
Post by bugeyedmonster2 on Jun 26th, 2007 at 8:46pm
Since I'm in the US I'm thinking customs/shipping would be a hinderance.  But someone else is welcome to look.  I assume that this page shows horn combs and wooden combs.

Anyway, I already have a wood comb from Ric and a horn comb from Heavenly Harvest, Inc.

I LOVE my combs from Ric the combmaker...but I have been told to get celluloid combs if I must comb when it is wet.  Can ANYONE tell me where to get one?

I use my horn comb for combing my wet/damp hair.  I just wipe it dry when done.  I don't think leaving horn wet would do it any good, but using it on wet hair has not done mine any harm.

I only use my fingers on my wet hair as it's very prone to breaking when wet.  Have you tried fingercombing?

I do use my horn comb on my hair when it's damp.

If you want a plastic comb, try Tenderheaded Accessories.  They have several seamless combs.  (along with other hair-friendly stuff!)   http://www.tenderheaded.com/combs.html

This web site has "bone" combs that are actually resin combs.  They also have other types of combs.

But celluloid?  I'm not sure that they make celluloid combs any more.  Maybe a good google seach will turn up some.  You could also try checking e-bay and see if there are any used celluloid combs that are still in good shape.

Good luck!

A comb that is made of animal horn.  Now you know what they do with the horns after the cattle become T-bone steaks!

Anyway, check this link for a horn comb.  http://heavenlyharvestinc.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=comb

Horn is good in that they don't attrach static, and help spread sebum.

You can find horn combs on e-bay, but I don't know how finely sanded the teeth are.  I've got the woman's wide tooth and the men's horn combs.  They are very smooth.  I don't know how they got the teeth on the men's comb soo smooth.  They are really well made.   You do have to oil your horn comb about once a month.

I'm really happy with my horn combs.  I've been thinking about buy another for my purse.

BEM,

I tired google and the celluloid combs were all narrow tooth...and well not in the best of shape as there were old.  You may be right that they do not make them anymore.  I do have a seamless plastic comb that I love.  I am just getting long enough hair to do the finger thing...so I might not need the comb...but I am kinda compulsive about combing my hair when it is wet...although I have made it through I week without doing it...just finger combing ...YAHOO...maybe I will learn yet.

Hey look! Celluloid combs!

But I don't know how much the shipping would be.

That's the only link I found off hand.  The others were e-bay or antique/vintage seller links.

I'm assuming that you are looking at the horn combs.   The woman's horn is good for  detangling or if you have wavy hair.  The men's comb is good for fine hair or final combing.

They also have horn hairpins.  I've never ordered any of those, though.  Not enough money for all the hair toys I would like.

I meant thick and/or wavy hair.  Like curly hairs.

My comb is a wide tooth comb and my hair is very fine with waves.  I only use wide toothed combs.

I've got fine straight hair and I use the women's wide tooth (HW103) and the men's pocket comb (HW102).

WW102 & WW103 are wood combs. I'm not sure how they are.  I've heard that they are nice but I've got a comb by Ric already, so I don't need another wood comb.

Ah, there you go, Joeydog!  Since bikerbraid has similar hair to yours, you might get two of the wide tooth comb.

I'd get two as the shipping won't be that different on whether if you order one or two.  And if you have two you can keep one at home and one in your purse.

I keep saying I'll buy another widetooth as I need one for my purse.
