Title: Debr's hair fixations
Post by Debr on Jun 25th, 2007 at 4:26pm
I am starting a journel for the first time.  This could be very cool.  I hope I am doing this in the right place.  If not, feel free to direct me.  My hair/scalp are having some unpleasant issues today.  I tried a cheap shampoo and my scalp is paying the price.  Psorsis is not happy  :'(.  I was wanting to go cheap cuz I hoping for excellent results, minimal price.

I found out my dad turned his drivers license back to the state last week.  He has dementia, and was having trouble.  He was getting lost frequently, going down one-way streets the wrong way, and other things.  I felt sad cuz his being able to drive was a freedom for him.  Now, he has to depend on others.  This also means he getting older, and I have never viewed him as aging.  Maybe its harder for to accept that it is him.

Welcome to the world of journaling, Debr.  ;)

Sorry to hear about your father. Growing older can have some pretty unpleasant effects on a person's mind.

Sounds as if your hair could use some extra TLC. You should go out and get it exactly what it needs. The best care possible. Keep doing the overnight oil treatments and deep condition at least once a week. Hopefully you hair won't have suffered too much damage from the cheap stuff.  :o

Hi Debr:

Sorry to hear about your dad.  But I'm glad he decided to give up his license before someone was injured.

Take care,  Rebecca

Ahhh-day 2 in the life of my journel.  I think dad has pretty much accepted the fact he can no longer drive.  It is harder for me to accept that he is growing older  :(.

I did an s & d in the sun today.  The light makes it sooo much easier to see the split ends.  There werent very many this time.  I am guessing the constant care is starting to pay off.  My scalp is still driving me nuts tho, Yeah, tomarrow is wash day.  No, I am not gonna use the vo5.  I have put the porosity shampoo/condish back into the shower.  Lets see what happens now.  I have noticed tho that the left side of my hair is whiter than the right side.  I wonder why?  Its like only half of my head is graying at a time.  Weird!!!  If this graying pattern continues, I will be very strange to look at.

Journel entry time  ;D ;D. Ahhhh---much happier scalp now.  I went back to using the porosity yesterday. No itchy scalp today.  Evidently, I had been scratching in my sleep cuz there are some little scabs on my scalp and they hurt.  I know that in a day or two those will heal also.  My hair growing like crazy.  I noticed in the mirror this morning that it now covers the bottom of my t-shirt again. I am hoping to be back to panty-line length by the end of August.  I cant wait to measure again.  According the morroco method, I will be doing another cut on or about the 24th of Sept.  I have been being a little wishy-washy with myself as to how much I plan to take off.  But I think it will still be only an 1/2 inch. The ends and general body are very healthy now and really dont need much taken off.

The weather is dysfunctional here and  I have a sinus headache today.  I wish it would either rain or sun.  Debr

Hi, Debr.  Congratulations on your new journal!

Sorry about your dad.  My grandma had a doctor tell her they were revoking her license-she was hoppin' mad about it.  She has Alzheimers (sp?) and that means she refuses to acknowledge she is having mental problems.  Its good he accepted this new development so quickly.

I hope your sinus headache goes away quick!  I hate having those, I usually have to sleep them off.

Hi Sakina, thanks.  Dad didnt willingly do this.  It has taken him almost a year to confront his problem.  Until he acquired some other issues hearing loss, aging eyesight, prostrate cancer, etc.  He wasnt willing to accept his dementia.  Now it is all kinda coming at him at once  :o.  Dad is going to be 78 in Sept, I know there are people older than he is still driving, but his driving skills were going down hill rapidly.  I am glad for his sake he is off the road.

Sinus pressure is going away now.  Probably by tomarrow headache will be all gone.

Journel entry #4,  Because my scalp is flaking and itching (psorsis)  :'(, i decided to oil/wash again today.  I have been trying wash only 2X a week, but it wasnt working for my scalp.  I think my scalp likes this process better.  I dont seem to have as many itchy areas today.  Used Last Call shampoo/condish this time with an ACV rinse after the shampoo.  My hairs length seems to be acting kinda weird, must be the humidity in the air.  I am curly, wavy, straight, but no frizz today.  O Well.

Journel entry #5,  Boy was I sick yesterday  :'(.   My sinus headached returned in full force and went to migraine level including vomiting.  I woke up at 3am w/the headache, then at 5am, I started the vomiting routine.  Missed church yesterday morning but went last nite.  Probably shouldnt have as the the lites really bothered my eyes, so several times I closed my eyes and held my head during the service.  Pastor Johnson and members of the congregation prayed for me and I slept well last nite and I am much better today  ;D.

Scalp is finally better today also.   Oiled Sat nite and did the regular routing Sunday afternoon.  Going back and forth w/the idea of "to poo, or not poo" that is the question.  So on we go.

Journel entry #6,  I applied for a new job and also took  a clerical test.  It is for some banking positions I found in the local newspaper.  Have to do and updated resume by thursday  :).  I wouldnt mind working in a bank at all.

I am also having a good hair day as it is close to 90 outside so my hair is in a bun today.  Actually I achieved a messy bun without trying.  Just thru it up and hoped for the best  ;D.

Entry #7,  Happy July 4th!!!!!  ;D.  Everything hair is doing nicely today.  I made a mistake last nite.  I accidently combined one of my best shampoos with my best conditioner.  I am not sure how I managed to do that  :-[.  So, I just decided it could become a 2 n 1, and this morning I used it to see if it would work that way.  Did the ususal routine, and my hair nor scalp are finding any problems with it.  I did notice tho the ends needed to be oiled as they were a little drier.  So, I put some evoo on my hand, rubbed them together, then applied it to ends only.  So far, so good  ;D.

Journel entry #8.  Well tomarrow will be wedding bells for the son of my pastor.  He is getting married in Portland so---a friend  and I going to ride together, do lunch, and the wedding/reception.  Should be fun for all.

Mom measured my hair on the 4th and it came to 39inches.  I have started trimming by the Morrocco Method.  I am still not sure this method has any effect on the cutting/growth of my hair.  But I have gained 2 inches in 1 month.  I am going to continue with this at least for the rest of the summer.  I am planning the next 1/2 trim for the 24/25th of Sept.  So I will know then if this works.  My hair grows an inch a month anyway.  It is already hot this morning so my hair is already up.  YUCK!!!  I have decided to stick w/mom measuring my hair each month cuz I think she is more accurate.

Journel Entry #9.  I am feeling overwhelmed today.  Lots of emotion  :'(.  Dad is getting worse very quickly.  My brother, Praise God for a brother who has the ability to deal with financial matters, is taking over the financial stuff for dad.  Van is helping dad put his house up for sale.  The house is the home where all of us kids grew up so there is emotional attachment for Van too.  This is really getting hard.  Dad seems to be withdrawing into hisself, while my mom on the other hand is getting beligerant.  She seems to think dad owes her a living even tho they have been divorced for about 30yrs.  Praise God I can turn Him cuz I am not sure how long I culd last b4 I wuld be committed to the looney bin.  Dad keeps telling Van he only has about a year to live.  Van and I dont know where is getting this idea.

I had to give up a job offer today also.  I just dont have the finances to get a CDL attachment to my drivers license or get my finger printing done.  So, I had to withdraw my application.  I know God is going to provide, everything just seems to piling up right now  :'(.

Journel entry #10.  It is raining out today.  Kinda nice to see it.  We had a revival at church last week so I didnt even get on the computer (to tired).  Dad seems to be having a better week so far, mom is still being mom tho (bligerant).  DB and I dont get where she is coming from.  O well, enuf ranting.  My hair is absolutely growing and seems to be getting thicker even tho I didnt do any s & d last week.  I didnt even do my usual all nite oiling.  I just put a few drops of oil in my conditioner after shampooing, and my hair was ok with that.  Sunday nite tho I did an all-nite conditioning.  My hair was really happy with that.   I am planning a major s & d this afternoon.

Journel #11,  I did another job interview yesterday.  Not good.  Not good cuz I didnt want to work on sundays and holidays.  If your work schedule fell on one of these days, you were required to be there.  No excuses.  Since I didnt want to miss church, I chose to not accept the job.  I may have to accept anything soon and I dont want to do that.  To me, that means I would start drifting away from what I love, and soon I wouldnt be church at all.  I am not strong enuf to go without the preaching, teaching, and fellowship.

BB, how do I read the PM you sent me?  I clicked on the llittle PM buttons but I didnt see the message.  Not real computer literate  :-?.

Fellowship with other believers is crucial!  I don't think there is anyone who can do without it.  You grow in your faith by following the example of others further along in their spiritual journey, and by being an example to others behind you.  I cannot believe you are meant to have a job that takes that away from you.  Keep praying, and something good will come.

Journel entry #12.   Thanx for the message info BB.  Yes, you sent me a message on July 12.  Thankyou, I just might check around for more info on that.  I am trying to finish using the bottle of Pantene Conditioner I have had laying around for some time now.  It is for Women of Color (bronze bottle).  I have tried both shampoo and condish.  Together they make my hair too oily, but the condish alone seems to be ok.  Did an AVC rinse after shampooing, my scalp really likes that, then condish, my hairs are being really good today.

Journel entry #13,  Hahahahahaha!!!!!  Glorious day in the neighborhood  ;D.  I applied for 6 jobs today.  1 at a temporary agency in the capital, and the other 5 at various coffee kiosks where I live.  Could become a lot of fun.

I have been seeing more long hair here lately.  Some of it looks good, some of it looks bad.  I am also noticing a lot of BLEACHED BLONDE hair lately.  Dont know if its a summer thing or if Im just now waking up.  I have gone back to washing my hair everyday, scalp likes that better.  Results are good as long as I oil at nite b4 washing.  Little mini oilings (oil in conditioner) dont work over the long haul.  I have noticed that my hair needs more time to absorb the oil than what a "quickie" in the shower can do for it.

Journel entry #14,  Went to camp meeting last week.  It reminded me of the "Brush Arbor" meetings I have heard about.  It was for the United Pentecostal church in the State of Oregon.  So--Pentecostals from all over the state got together on a campground, Praised the Lord, and had church every day and nite M - F.  Man----am I tired today, but I feel good.  I wore my hair up most of the time cuz it was hot.  The building is like a barn, no AC, wooden pews, no padding, had to be careful and not "scoot" across the pew cuz I didnt want to acquire a splinter.

Hair is doing well also.  I have gone back to daily washing.  I do my oiling every nite now.  My scalp has improved alot by doing it daily again.  I do a ACV rinse after the shampoo but b4 the conditioning process.  I did a thorough S & D on saturday.  Found a really weird split end.  It had split 3 differant ways on the hair.  Had many little white ends, removed them all.

Journel entry #15.  Isnt life interesting, my ds and db are not speaking to one another.  They are fighting about mom and dad  :-?.  Seems as tho ds thinks db is coercing dad into not looking out for mom.  I just dunno  :-?.

In other things I have been feeling pretty down about not finding a job.  I have done all I can do now, and still no replies, offers, nothing.  I am not looking forward to tomarrow cuz I may have to cancel my health insurance.  Being asthmatic, I really cant do wo the insurance.  But---God is good and I know He cannot fail.  I have prayed, pleaded, and prayed some more.  God will come thru.  He has a plan for me, I just know it.

Bleh, job searching.  :P  Believe me, I know how frustrating that can be. Especially when you seem to try forever without hearing anything back...or when you do, it's a rejection. Oy. I have been there so many times, I can't even tell you.

Just keep trying and eventually something will pan out. Do not give up - quitting is not an option.

Sorry about your family situation. I know you probably feel like either the odd one out or caught up in the middle of everything. This is where your prayers are needed most. Hope everything works out with your mother and your siblings can lay their differences aside.

Journel entry #16.  WOW all I can say is WOW  :o.  It has been such a long time since I posted here.  There has been sooo many ups and downs.  I wish everything would get on an even keel again.  I am still working (Thank you Jesus).  But it is week by week now.  Dad is really getting confused a lot lately.  He got lost again the other day, went back to his old house about a week after he had moved.  Mentally he still lives in the old house.  My ds and db are speaking again.  I hate being in the middle, but I refused to take sides.

My hair is good.  I have been doing a lot of s & d which is removing the "frizzy look".  I can wear it oiled and in a bun to work, so now I dont have to sleep in damp hair.  Cool!!.  Deb

Journel entry #17.  I went to dad's 78th birthday party last nite.  He was doing well  :).  I dont know if it was the party, or perhaps the presence of his kids (the 3 of us) or maybe some new medication is working, but he almost was his old self.  He took me on a tour of his new home and yard, spoke pleasantly (dad and I dont always get along, too much alike).  He even slipped me $50.  I dont know if it was my birthday gift or if he was just giving it to me cuz he did it rather secretly.  I have been praying a lot for my dad so maybe the presence of God was there, it sure seemed peaceful.

I cut an inch(measured it myself) off of my hair on monday the 25th.  Hair is reallly improving, the layered look is almost gone.  I am trying to grow the underneath layer to same length as the top.  I want my ends to be the same length and thickness.   ;D ;D.

hi im pretty new so i dont think we have been introduced im amanda aka brunette85. 78 years old, wow, your dad must have seen many things in his life. i always wanted to know what it was like to have wisdom like that. glad to hear you and your dad are getting along. i was thinking the same thing about the underneath of my hair, but i was worried that because it is near the neck and caches on clothes easily if it would be a challenge to grow it out. good luck :)

I am going use my journal for this experiment.  What I have done to start is---

A. Shampoo with conditioner, either vo5 or suave coconut.  Both are working quite well.
My scalp acutally has quit flaking, itchiing, and hurting/burning.

B. Condition with either a hemp oil conditioner found at Sallys or Olive oil conditoner also found at Sallys. The olive oil does leave a scent in my hair but it powders down to a real nice smell.

C. Not going to measure hair's length until October 1.  Starting measurement is 41 inches.

D. Continue to s & d on a bi-monthly schedule, every other friday.  working good also.

E. Still planning to trim on or about the 24th of June.

F.  Wear hair up as much as possible to protect it from weather, and to keep me from standing in front of the mirror watching it grow.

So, I plan to keep record here.

Today is friday and my hairs are greasy today.  I wonder if maybe I should start washing (coing) 3x a week now.  I washed last friday and it looked good.  Got a compliment Wed nite at church.  My friend says it really looks a lot better now.  I guess there were some flyaways around my part and she said they dont stickup anymore.  She also commented on how much softer my hair was looking and feeling.  I noticed it took about 4 to dry, where I could be presented in public.  It used to take at 6 hours for that to be possible.  If the weather coopeerates this next week, I will be able to s&d in the sun.  Cant wait.

I was looking in the mirror at the back of my head, and I noticed my hair is now fingertip length.  It acturally hides my hand.  WOW!!!! ::).  I am considering cutting only a 1 1/2 inches instead of 3 inches in june.  Going back and forth over that tho cuz 3 inches is a lot of hair to give up.  On the the hand, it would be a lot healthier.  I dunno.  We'll see.

Yes, BB, I have decided (sorta, maybe) to only take off 1 1/2 inches this time (June).   ;D.

Today is saturday and boy is my hair greasy.  I decided against getting up and washing it yesterday.  So, now I have greasy clumps and a very itchy scalp.  It does need to be washed 3x weekly.  I bought some new hairwashing condish yesterday, so I am anxious to try it.

Glad things are going so well with your experiment.

question- What is s & d ?

I have been letting my hair go as long as possible between washings, as well.
I almost always wear my hair up, but by the third day I have to be careful to really wear it up, away from my face and neck, or it will affect my complexion on my face neck and back.
If it does not creep me out to much I can go 4 days without washing it, but it is hard to go longer than that. :-/

I expect to see you as the first person to post on the Measure Up Forum in October.
And I will be the first person in line to read it. ;D
Good luck!

Search and destroy - a common term for finding and trimming off any split ends.  Also referred to as "dusting" (due to the dust of trimmed ends that can result).

Today is friday and I DIDNOT get up to wash my hair.  Consequently, I am a grease-ball.  Scalp is really itching too.  Summer is back in force.  Went from mild 60s to high 90s in 24 hours.  AC is a lovely thing to have.  Hair/scalp love the heat, I cant stand it.  Hair grows even faster during this time of year.

I wore my hair up to work today, and I am going to have to wear it up every day now.  I will even wear it up to church.  I tried the "sock bun" yesterday, and I like it.  With a little more practice it will become another "do" that I can wear anywhere.  I think I need to find a bigger sock tho cuz I have to much hair, and havent figured out how to get the distribution equal.  It was a "wee bit" lopsided.  Hahaha  ::)!!!

Well, I couldnt wait any longer.  According to the morrocco method, yesterday was a good day to trim hair for strength.  So---I took off 1 1/2 inches.  Feels sooooo much better now.  I do not know whether I will cut again on the 24th of June or not.  Depends on a few things.
A. my attitude
B. hairs attitude
C. hairs growth, it grows pretty fast in the summer.
D. any damage

I have kept it up due to heat.  It is HOT under all this hair.  I washed it yesterday after trim, then did a a damp oil, and put up.  It is greasy but so what, its up and I cant see the grease. I am cutting to get the nape and canopy the same length.  Also, for thicker, healthier ends and length.  So, on we grow.

Can I ask what the morocco method is??

How to explain the morrocco method:  well ummm----  Cutting your hair based the moon cycles.  See Morrocco Method.  It is hard for me to explain.  The year is divided into four parts based on the solstices, winter, spring, summer, fall.  Sections such as: growth, strength, beauty, length.  Certain days during each solstice are good for what you may want to obtain.  If you are growing for length, then following this chart you could cut/trim your hair on the lunar days connected to trimming for growth.  By doing this, some results might be your hair could grow faster, be stronger, thicker.

If this sounds confusing to you, please go to the Morrocco method site.  That would be a better explanation for you.

I am starting to see some early results on my experiment  :o.  I have noticed my scalp is really clearing up.  It does not burn or hurt anymore, and the flakking/itching cycle has almost stopped.  I do shampoo now only when I do an all-nite oiling as my hair is too oily for CO only.  I then follow up with a CO *shampoo* then condish as normal, rinse as normal.  Hair and scalp are by far happier doing it this way.

I have also noticed ends are shinier than they ever have been.  Hair overall seems to be healthier.  I dont know tho if this is cuz I finally cut the last 1 1/2 inches that was damaged.  There isnt anymore damage on my ends that I can see.  Ends and length are full and thick now.  Wiil continue on with experiment.

I bought a differant condish for cleansing purposes and a differant oil based moisturizer for after cleansing.  I am not sure which I/my hair doesnt like.  I used these to wash my hair yesterday and I am a GREASEBALL ALREADY!!!  YUCKY!  That means I have to wash my hair b4 I go to work tomarrow  ::).  I will wash with the new condish and then use the olive oil for the moisture.  My hair LOVES the olive oil condish ---- so I will make it happy.
Then next time I will wash with my reglar condish and try the new after wash moisutizer to see which one my hair doesnt get along with.

The CO experiment is going very well.  My length is softer than it has ever been before.  I did an S & D saturday, and I had fewer split ends.  The ends arent dry either.  I could probably use and all-nite oiling, but with the weather still cold, and I am sooo suseptable to sinus infections, I will wait until warmer weather.

My hair is starting to curl on the pew again which means I am gaing back the amount I cut off in May.  I am just sooo excited about this gain of length.  Fingertips here we come!!!  ;D.

Once I reach fingertips, and I am at this time still going for the knees, as my hair in better condition I may have to rethink that length thought.  We'll see.

I washed my hair last nite and b4 the ends got dry, I put some oil in it and then left the rest of the head to dry.  I left the hair loose for the rest of the evening and braided b4 bed.  This morning my ends were sooo soft.  It really felt nice.  I braided to go to work as I am finding leaving my hair loose is too dangerous.  It gets caught on stuff as I walk by.  That hurts!!  I have been braiding b4 bed every nite now and I am finding almost no tangles in the morning which is very nice.  I am tired.

The no tangles from a night braid were nice, but I started noticing a LOT of breakage.  A sleep cap helped.

Today is monday and a great day.  I visited my dad yesterday, in some ways is doing good and some ways not!  Dad cant seem to remember about 1 1/2 years worth of time.  What years time I dont know.  He got a puppy from his wife for fathers day.  It was suggested to do that so he would have a focal point.  Something he has to take of and do each day on a regular basis.  Dad also talked alot about missing money.  My dad was wealthy when he retired, had a good retirement income.  He married his wife 5 years prior to having his house paid for.  Last year they sold that house and bought a new one, since then they also bought a new car.  She seems to having a gambling issue too.  My dad is determined to find out what has happened to the missing money.  If she is gambling their retirement, there could be a whole lot of trouble stirred up.

My hair is doing good too.  I did an S & D thru the body today while sitting in the sun.  The light was great for seeing what few splits I had to cut.  Since I have working on my experiment,  my hair is responding to the good care.  I hardly have splits anymore.  My ends are in better shape.  I am planning to go to a barbar and have a professional shaping done.  I am thinking I would like have an 1/8th of an inch removed.  I could do it, but perhaps it would look better having it done.  Then if I like it, I can continue doing the professional thing or do it myself.  Sometimes allowing some else to do it feels sooo good.  I am thinking going to a barbar cuz when you tell them an 1/8th of 0nly, they know how to measure it.  I know stylist who cannot measure, and I would wind up losing by far too much hair. That is just a thought for now, I am not ready to remove length whatsoever right now.    I am taking more time and patience with it.  Oiling and wearing it up more now, also braiding for work.  It is paying off I know it just by how my hair is feeling.

The smoke smell has left.  I can no longer smell it at all.  Dont know what it was but it is gone no

I am thinking I may have to start absolutely washing 3x weekly if I continue to use condish to wash.  Hair is soooo uuuuggggglllllllyyyyyyyyyy tonite with grease.  It looks like it hasnt been washed in 2 months.  I dont know if it is the type of condish (balsam and protein), or the after washing condish(either Proclaim olive oil or Motions moisturizing, sometimes Hemp oil), or is it cuz it is summer and the warmer temps.  I am sooo confused  :-?.  My scalp is in marvelous shape, no longer having problems so I really dont want to go back to using shampoo.  How else can I get my scalp clean and only clean it 2x weekly?  Hhhhmmmm--a perplexity.  I have been also using ACV/cold water for final rinse.  Thats good.  Should i just bite the bullet and wash it 3x weekly?  See, I am kinda lazy and too wash 3x weekly, I have to get up at 4am.  I do like my sleep.  Whats a girl to do?

Best results so far have been with Suave condish to wash and Olive oil to condish afterwards with ACV/cold water final rinse.  I mite just go back to that routine and see how it goes.

I have found these two dry sections in my hair this morning.  I thought at first it was old damage I havent removed yet.  It goes all up and down the length.  Well, after much searching it out, I have discovered it is my hair turning gray in those areas.  It seems as tho those two sections are graying faster than the rest of the hair, so I treated them to some extra  oiling (on damp hair) after washing.  Since summer came on here yesterday, temps jumped from nice mild 70's to mid 90s, I am washing more often.  I simply CANNOT stand that greasy yucky look I get.  I think the hair will be fine.  Shampoo only 2x monthly, then co rest of time, more use of oils, longer rinses, regular s&d.  Hair length is replaced since cutting in May (fingertip).  Plus, I am watching very carefully for any new damage or perhaps excess damage from frequent washings.  I am ignorant here as to whether there will be any effect on my hair.  I just hate the greasy look.

What I am also noticing is that the gray hair is very coarse, curly, while the white hair is very soft and straight.  I will be glad when my hair gets thru "the change" and begins to act normal again.  Whatever normal will be at the time.  I am not sure if I should be treating the gray hair differently from the white.  So on we grow.

The temps here are not as high as the other day, but the humidty is!!  I got UGLY about noon, so my hair went up.  I have started using some Amish hair pins a friend got for me, they are marvelous!  :).  The little claw clamp things I was using didnt hold my hair for very long and when the hair begin to "slide", I would get a headache.  Now with pins in it bun stays put.  YEAH!!!  I wore my up for church last nite and my Senior Pastors wife gave me nice compliment.  Gonna wash again tomarrow.

I didnt get up to wash this morning.  It was cool outside and with lower temps and humidity, I have a tendency to sleep.  It is supposed to creep up to 95 - 100 later in the week.  I did a braid today and I finally took it out and fingercombed my hair.  I have to wash tomarrow (greaseball).  I didnt get the job I interviewed for on the 3rd.  O well, I aint gonna cry over it.  I am sure God has something for me that is better  ;D.

If I wash in the morning I will be sweaty when I get off work, so I mite wait until after work as I have church tomarrow nite.  Although I will be in a bun cuz of the heat. hhhmmmm---I wonder if I could get away with putting some oil in the hair while it is damp, then bunnning it.  Maybe not, then it wouldnt be dry b4 bed and I really hate sleeping with wet hair while the AC is running.  O my what a dilemma.

Braids and buns are sooo wonderful  ;D.  It is 96 here so far and still climbing.  Hair is in a greasy braid and I will wash tomarrow, then bun it for church.  This was the last saturday I have to work.  My schedule changed so I dont work weekends (saturday) anymore.  My grant was cut back to 20 hours a week which includes time for job hunting classes (I get paid to look for work) yippeeee!  So, I dropped working on saturday.  Now I have a real weekend.

Its been hot here now for the last few days, I thought of shaving my head last nite thinking that mite be cooler.  Nice breeze flowing over my head and neck, mmmmm, wonderful.  But, alas, I woke up to a full head of hair today.  It is greeasy again, and I washed it  yesterday.  I am thinking that I sweating alot during my sleep and my hair and scalp is what I notice the most.  I really dont want to wash more that 3x weekly, but I dont like the greasy look.  Makes feel dirty even tho I am not.  I wonder what I could do to stop the greasy look or if I have to put with this until fall  :-??

On a differant note, I turned in 4 job applications by noon today.   ;D ;D ;D.

My hair won't dry in a bun, either.  I let it down after I get home and hope there's enough time for it to dry completely before bed.

Do you have any micro fiber towels?  I've been using them for years now and they do cut down my drying time.

Also, you might want to check out devacurl's no poo as an alternative to so many CO's:

http://store.devachansalon.com/Detail.bok?no=29

If you want to try it, I think I've got some left that I'm not using.  It has become too moisturizing for me since I do regular scalp oiling.  PM me if you want me to send it to you.

Thanks Sakina.  I have a microfiber towel which I havent been able to use cuz its too small.  I havent been able to find any kind of towel large enuf for all of my hair (considering buying a beach towel when they go on sale).  As for the devacurl, not sure if I want to do that cuz I am doing a lot of oiling.

I decided to do a "girlie day" today.  I got up and put oil on length, ends, and the dry places.  Left it wrapped up for an hour.  Sat outside in the early morning warmth.  Washed with shampoo first, then CO'd, rinsed thoroughly, used my olive oil condish, finished shower (primping and preening) rinsed hair and me, then as a final rinse, did an acv to the hair.  Oiled my skin, left me/hair to "air dry".  Hair looks just fabulous to day.  I am wearing it down (30 degrees cooler out today) and it HAS GROWN.  I can no longer see my fingertips.  It actually looks better now than it has ever before.  Lots of work has gone on here.  So, I am going to continue with the experiment just to see what happens now.  I dont how longer it will get cuz I dont remember it ever being any longer.  It sure is a lot healthier now too.  I am feeling better also, more rested.  I am sooo glad for long weekends.

I had a hard morning.  I went to another job hunting class for those folks who are 55 and older.  I got kinda frustrated cuz I am not into looking for a fast - paced environment anymore.  I am wanting more of a low - key, casual, not in a big hurry type of position.  It is soooo hard to find something like that in my location.  We are doing a 10 point pyramid and things like casual attire, location, and office style (no office politics) keep popping up for me..  What that means is I am no longer into being the best of the heap.  So now what?  I do like my part time job.  It is a casual environment, not in a hurry, type of job.  What I want is a part time (25 - 30 hours per week) $9 - $11 per hour, casual office attire, back office position.  We have homework, so btwn working, and doing the required job hunt, I have homework.  I have to finish my pyramid, and do a skills statement (I already have one for another job club) I might use the same one.  I just want to go to work and come home.  Is that too much to ask?

I am ssssooooooooo excited tonite.  Last nite I went to check out some barbers in my area.  The 1st one I couldnt find his shop, so on the 2nd.  I walked in and asked if he would cut my only an 1/8th of inch.  He said, "take a seat".  Yeeeehawwww,  when it was my turn, he told me I would have to stand up, so I did. Then he told me I have a small section which either broke or I fried off a long time ago, it is 3/4 shorter than the rest of my length. Of course I could have accidently cut it wrong myself and I said so.  he asked me if he could even up the hemline, I said yes.  So, instead of cutting off 1/8 of an inch, he cut off 3/4 of an inch.  I am soo happy.  My hem is now all one length, no damage.  He didnt charge me either as he doesnt have a price for "trims".  Isnt that just glorious!!

It feels weird to have non damaged hair after it being damaged for so long.  There is now shine down the whole length.  It lays smoother that it ever has before.  And there is still 2 1/2 months left of the experiment.  I got thinking tho, I am getting healthier hair but will I have gained any length?  So far, I have cut off 2 1/4 inches since beginnning the experiment in April.  I went into the bathroom to see if I could see my fingertips, yes, just barely.  Since this is the healthiest my hair has been at any length, I am unsure if I will achieve knee length or not as I have grown accustomed to the fingertip length.  We'll just wait and see. Many thoughts are roaming around my brain now.

I think most ladies forget or don't know that a regular barber will and does cut or trim ladies hair.

I bet they are very surprised when a lady with long hair come in for a visit :o

One time I went to one for a cut and my wife got a hair massage but she said it was nothing great but maybe that was because the barber was a female :-/

My wife is overdue for a trim so maybe I will suggest that we go to one next time.

That was great that he did not charge you but I would have left him a tip anyway.

I know of other gals who have had barbers trim their hair.  My hubby used to do men's hair back in the 70's (not professionally trained, but did a good basic cut).  He is the only person I have ever let trim my hair once it is past my shoulders.

Not much to say lately.  Doing good in spite of the heat.  My hair looks good in spite of the humidity.  My hair looks better lately than it used too  ;D.  I have started parting it on the left often so that the right/left sides will be equally thick. It is noticeable to me that my right side is thinner than the left.  So, the left parting compensates for that.  Since I just had a trim, the right side is slightly shorter than the left, but the next few trims will take care of that.  I am planning to do 1/8" trims until that happens.

Oiling the ends and wearing it up more seems to be contributing to the good things that are happening with it.  I do notice tho my hair is getting much lighter on the ends and thru the body (grays).  I am not unhappy with the maturing of my hair at all.  I want it knee length and white.  Weird I know.   Well I have rambled here enuf.

Ahhh---camp is over now, so I am in kinda a letdown funky mood.  It was go go go for while there.  Saw some of the most beautiful and really abused hair while there tho.   As most Pentecostal women dont cut their hair (I am an exception) it is fried and abused by the time they get to their early 20s.  I did see 2 ppl with exceptional hair tho.  The 1st I have already commented on, she had beautiful uncut calf length hair in a high ponytail.  A dark ashy brown color, the sun would glint off of it and it was really pretty.  It was very well cared for.  The 2nd was a little girl about 8 - 10 yrs old, copper red with some wave, thigh length, very thick.  It was gorgeous and she wore it down.  It was also well cared for.

But I also saw an awful lot of extremely abused hair.  More abused than beautiful.  I cant help them.  But I sure wanted to.  HAHAHA!  I had to bite my tongue, look the way, and mind my own business many times.

Back to the ol' grind now.

It is cooling off here now  ;D.  3 more months of hot weather and then the rains settle in for a while.  i am sooo very glad of weather changes.  I am planning on doing an all-niter tonite (oiling).  I am going to try it by damping my hair 1st, then applying the oil.  I usually put the oil on dry hair, but maybe my hair will be more accepting of the oil by being damp 1st.  Sometimes my ends are a bit crunchy after an oiling.

I have been parting my hair farther to the left of center lately, and when I comb, my canopy SPLITS over my waves.  Looks real dorky, and I dont know what is causing it unless the hair underneath (nape) is very dry or the canopy is very dry.  hence the oiling tonite.  I am hoping it is a dryness thing and this will help it.  If not, then I dont know what else to do.  Its like the straight canopy vees over the wavier nape.   Any suggestions??  Anyone???

This is NASTY!!  Just simply NASTY!!!   It is 95 DEGREES and CLIMBING!!!  Man, I wish winter were here.  On the brighter side, I have noticed more white hair today than I have any other time.  Maybe it is getting whiter, or perhaps due to the sunlite factor, I can see it better.  It is white.  Not grey.  White.  The hairs on my scalp are still grey tho.  As the hair gets longer, it becomes more white.  Weird huh??  I also have "updo" headache today.

I have had a "splitting canopy" issue for several days now.  I woke up this morning, washed it, put oil in it before it had a chance to start drying (wet oiling).  Hair drys in about 3 hours with this heat.  Bunned, no more splits.  I guess I will have to "wet oil" every time I wash.  I will probably be washing hair daily or at least  more than 3 times a week (scalp gets too oily, oil creeps upward).  I was thinking that maybe I would have to cut my hair off and start over.  I just couldnt understand how to get rid of the splitting.  I do oil my hair but with the heat I just need to do it more and a lot of it.  Seems llike once I step outside, walk to my car, get the mail, whatever, the heat has sucked up any oil and moisture in my hair.  My ends and length were starting to pay the price, (think straw).  Live and learn.  I hope now my hair will be happy with this routine until summer goes away. It did feel softer when I took it down a moment ago to redo the bun. Wet oil and bun will become my new theme hairdo for the rest of the summer. I will be doing some damage control (s & d) sometime this week.  I dont think there is much damage, just dryness.  So on we grow.

I went to visit my dad yesterday.  He was able to carry on a conversation with me for the most part.  His mind did wander in and out a few times.  I did notice he seemed skinnier than the last time I saw him.  I know he eats, but he just looked skinny.  He did ask me if that was my car parked in his driveway, I said no, it was his, I am parked on the street.  O well.  My brother seems very worried about him though.  There isnt enuf money for dad to get long-term care cuz they have LOANED out so much of their savings accounts, and it is not be repaid.  One of the ways dad could get help is to divorce his wife, give custody of her grandkids to her, and sell his house.  Of course, he wont do that.  I dont know if he would have to pay child support even tho he adopted them cuz of his age (79) and his medical/mental condition.  That might be the only option he could get for care.  His illness is really taking a toll on his wife.

It is sooo much cooler today.  Rained last nite, storm is moving in this week!  Yay!!  Hair is also in a better mood.

Yep!!!  We had rain off and on all week.  The only bad part about is the temps were in the mid 70s.  YUCKY!!!

The hair is getting better.  I have been thinking about this experiment I am doing this summer.  I am not getting much length at all.  It is my fault tho cuz I have been cutting it.  The qualitiy is good tho.  hmmm--length versus quality?  Nah, qualiity first.  So---perhaps this experiment is gonna change.  It will become ongoing as there is still some more damage to remove(I still have what looks like thin ends).  I dont know if it the lighting in the room, or if my hair is really thin on the last 6 inches or so.  I can see thru it. It feels as thick as the hair farther up my back, but looks thin.  I will keep trimming and go from there.  I also am finding I really like fingertip length.  I dont know if I plan to stop there tho, I still would like to have my hair knee length at least once before I die.  If I stop at ftp -- I would make my final length goal at 45 inches.  As of my last measurement (April), I only have 4 more inches to go.  I havent measured since then, waiting for October, so I will know how much farther I need to grow to maintain at 45 inches.  Then I will look into knee length after that.

D

Title: Re: Debr's hair fixations
Post by Debr on Aug 25th, 2008 at 8:49pm
Things are definately changing.  I still plan to measure again in Oct.  Then the next step will be to change my hair trimming routine.  I am considering a "trim or dusting" every 2 months, removing at least an 1/8 of inch each time from the length.  I will contine to dust the body every week as I have all summer.  I do like to oil when wet, then put it up.  With winter coming I dont know if I will continue that step.  I am also thinking about leaving my hair at this length (fingertip) until I have cut off all of the remaining damage.  I am thinking this may take a iyear or more, we'll see.  I might just get frustrated with slowness of the procedure and whack off the remaining damage  ;).

I love the fall, but seasonal changes always make me a little crazy.  I get wishy-washy with hair change ideas.  So, I figure if anything my journal will be a good place to "sound out" my ideas.  Who knows, something good might come out of it.  ;D.

Well----this has been an interesting week.  On wednesday, I went to a job interview at the sherriffs office, I even had my fingerprints done.  Then today I turned in the 7 page job appllication.  The interview went very well. I think I got the job and now it is a matter of waiting about 3 weeks for the security stuff to be completed.  I am just soooo excited  ;D.

I trimmed an inch from my hair last nite.  The ends looked just horrible.  I am thinking the heat got to them.  I had been wearing my hair up with oil, but still the ends looked fried.  So late last nite the inch came off and today I did another s & d. After washing, I put some oil based moisturizer (leave in) into my damp hair.  So far, so good.

Well---I understand what is making me so tired.  Part of it is waiting to hear about new job (caught in limbo) and the other part is standing on my feet for 7 hours every day at my old job.  My right leg hurt from my big toe all the way to my hip last nite.  I finally took to 2 exceddrin and prayed for my leg.  God answered and my leg calmed down so I could sleep.  Still tired today.

I am caught in limbo with hair too.  I am trying to decide if I want to go back to washing it everyday.  The reason is COing it 2 - 3 times weekly isnt working.  My hair/scalp gets greasy but the scalp isnt as itchy anymore.  What to do----What to do????   Actually my hair looked better/fresher wahing it every day.  I have to get up at 4am every day to wash tho, and I am kinda lazy  ::).  So we'll see.

I want winter soo bad.

We have been having some lovely fall weather here.  The temps are in the 60 - 70's range.  I just love it.

I think my hair likes this time of year best cuz it seems to be behaving better, growing faster, and in general easier to deal with  :).  I still have not heard about my new job yet, but it has only been two weeks, and sometimes it might take homeland securitiy 3 weeks or more.  They have to make sure I am not wanted anywhere.  So, I am trying VERRRRY hard to be patient.

I am still thinking very hard about going back to daily washing routine.  Especially if I get the new job.  I actually liked my hair better then.  What kind of s & c would be best for daily use?   hmmmm---sounds like another experiement comin on.  I llke coconut products by suave for co but after a day or two, my hair starts to look greasy.  I did my usual s & d today, but there were only 3 spllits, l knot, and an end I didnt like to be cut off.  Oiling after wet combing is working great, which is also another reason why I want to wash daily.  If I go every other day, then my hair gets greasy.  Maybe it is the time of year.  I dunno.  But I really haite the greasies cuz I feel soooo like a slob.  The oiling is working tho.  It has become the "leave in".

I was looking at my ends in the church bathroom mirror and they have finally gotten thicker.  I cannot see my hand thru them anymore.  The ends are finally as thick as the rest of my hair.  I am going to continue to trim about 1/2 inch every other month for a while to control taper.

I also figured out I only need to grow 4 more inches to reach mid thigh.  Ohhh, this is sooo exciting. ;D ;D.

I have been under a lot of stress lately!  I have noticed this in the way my stomach is acting.  A loooong time ago, I had ulcers.  In fact I wound up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer.  had to have surger.  I noticed today that the bleeding is starting to occur again.  Unfortunately, I have noooo money and nooooo insurance.  I went to Walgreens and got some Zantac 75.  Hoping and praying that this med will at least slowdown/stop the acid production.  If it doesnt work then I will need medical care.  What do I do?

The zantac is working.  I also realized something else.  In prayer I would give my situation to God, and then take it back as tho I couldnt/wouldnt let God help me.  I would worry and fret over it until it was making sick.  I talked to a friend of mine last nite who believes in God as I do and she told me right then and there what I was doing.  So, I came home, prayed and left it with God.  Got up this morining, prayed again, left it with God, and Ive only thought about my situation once or twice, realized it right away, and backed off.  It is in God's court.  My stomach and body as a whole is MUCH better tonite.  O Prasie God!!   ;D

                                     EXPERIMENT IS DONE!!!!! ;D ;D

Finally!  I can begin to do something else.  Final words.

Measured last nite.  No gain as I have been doing a lot of cutting.  Beginnning measurement on 4/1 was 41 inches. last nite 9/29, measured at 40 1/2 inches.  My ends are now thick and healthy.  I think that is the best part of the whole thing.  Hardly any taper.  The general body of hair is in much better condition.  I also s & d yesterday and those results were great.  I cut off 1 knot, 4 splits, and 17 split wannabes.  I counted all of that.  Much much improvement overall.

Now, after reading/lurking on another board, I might try the monistat experiment and see what happens.  Some reported good growth ratio, and others reported lessened shedding, and others also reported itchy scalp cleared.  Others reported headaches.  So, if I were to do this I am hoping for the growth of course but a general overall clearing up of my scalp. I would also have to keep in mind, I am prone to migaraines.   Medications, shampoos, and such have not helped, some were to expensive to continue.  So I will see where this takes me.  I will post in my journal for all to see  ;).

My plan would be:  Monistat 7 mixed with either 1/2 warm water and castor oil or Africa's Best Herbal Oil.
Apply around hairline, scalp all over, and itchy place 3x weekly (nite b4 wash) oil ends.  Try for a month and measure/record results.  If results are good, then continue, if not then quit.

So on we grow!!

Hi, Debr.  I have issues with an itchy scalp.  I've been doing regular acv rinses and that has helped over all however my itching intensified in the last couple of months.  I recently started using a Neem shampoo, conditioner and oil that I got from the health food store and in just a few weeks (washing 2 times a week) I am really seeing results.  My scalp is very clear, practically no flakes of dry skin and hardly any itching.

I think the Neem (its a plant from India) would be much better for you than Monostat, unless you have yeast on your scalp.  I must tell you though, it has a strong odor.  I don't mind it at all, but I thought I should mention it.  I think it smells like french's fried onions.  Yum.

At any rate, it is really working for me and in addition-my hair is suuuuper soft and shiney using this stuff.

Hi Sakina, I bought the Neem oil yesterday.  I put it in my ends and length last nite and again this morning before I put it up.  Man, is my hair soft!!  ;D.  It does lay a lot smoother tonight.  I am gonna put the oil on the itchy part of my scalp in the morning and see if it helps with the itching, and do the ends/length again.  I have not purchased the shampoo/conditioner yet.  If the oil works as well as I want it to, i I may not have to buy the other. I am considering adding the oil to the shampoo/condish I already have and not buy anymore products which will end up on the bathroom floor (my storage area).

I have also noticed that just using it these last two times how smooth and flat my hair lays.  Yes, the smell can be a bit overwhelming, but what the hey, if it works.  Thanks again for the tip.   ;)

I went to visit my dad on Sunday and he couldnt remember who I was.  He asked me my name.  he also kept referring to my mom as "the other woman"  My parents have been divorced for about 30 years.  His current wife is caring for him in their home as their finances will not allow him to be placed in foster care.  It is sad that this is happening to my dad.  He just turned 79 at the end of Sept   :'(.  I wish I could fix it.  I know I cant but it hard to watch this happen.

Neem oil is fabulous.  I put it in my wet hair after shampooing yesterday, and viola! no dry hair anywhere.  Not even my ends or my little dry frizzy place!!  I think I am in love with this stuff.  It doesnt leave my hair greasy either.  I am going to put it in tonite and sleep with it, wash in the morning to see how my hair likes that routine.  Who knows, this may be it.  Scalp is still itchy tho, so I may have to break the bank and get the shampoo/condish.  I will know more tomarrow after nite oiling.

I am considering a new experiment for fall  ;D.  What if I only measure and trim every 3 months.  I am thinking of trimming perhaps 1/4 inch off every 3 months.  I lack 4 inchs of reaching one of my two goals.  After reaching this 1st one, I will then consider growing on.  A test time of whether I like the new length and I am confortable with it.  If so, then I will continue to my final goal.  I could leave it at this length for the summer.

If I do it this way, I will meet the 1st goal by late spring, early summer.  I grow 3/4 inch per month.  Starting length is 40 1/2 inches, as of Oct 1 2008.  Experiment end date would be May 1, 2009.  Ending measurement goal would be 44 inches.

Trim dates: how about I use the morrocco method and use the 4 dates given for hair beauty?  That sounds like a good idea, and it would be something I can do easily.   :).

What if I stall?  Then I stall.  But----how do I tell if I hit terminal?

WOW!!  I havent been here for a few days.  I dont have aniything to say.  I have been alternating btwn Neem oil and olive oil on my hair.  I took the eyedropper idea from the Neem and I put 1 drop of evoo in my hand, rub hands together and apply to ends 1st, then another drop, rub hands together and apply to length.  I do this to my whole length.  Its working better than ANYTHING else I have ever done.  I am happy with this routine so far.

WOW!!!  I still dont have anything to say  :o.  I am usually soooo opinionated this is quite refreshing.  Still doing the alternate of Neem oil and olive oil for ends/length and that is working very well.  Havent quite decided on my hair's length.  I am trying to decide if the the length now is good for me or should I continue to let it grow and just see how far it will get.

The sherriffs office called my personal references today, so now I am waiting for the final step and that should go well, then I will have to wait for the start date.

I just LOVE this time of year.  A nip of winter in the air, some gently falling rain, leaves turning bright, vivid colors.  Aww, fall is glorious!!

Hi Angel Spun,  I am in the Pacific NW.  Still raining here, and has been for the last 3 days.  Typical fall weather.

Yes, BB, I am still soooo undecided about the hair's length, I think I too will just let it go until I can decide to trim or not.  I am still planning (maiybe)   ::)  to be doing a trim about mid December tho.

My hair is rather greasy today, it is need of washing.  I have been wearing it up or braided here lately.  My braids have actually improved so much that I am no longer embarrassed to wear them in public.  Nite braiding has been helping me to learn to braid better.  I can still only do 1 kind of updo (bun) but that is ok.  My hair gets soo heavy after a while of being up that I have to be able to let it down then do it back up.

My friend Mel cut 9 inches off of her hair the other day, man does it looook good.  She had some nasty looking ends and couldnt decide if to cut it all off, or just some, or maybe add some layers.  I talked her into just cutting the ends, living with that for a bit, then make another decision on next cut.  I told how I do it and she was able to follow my instructions, and her hair looks gorgeous now.  Her original length was fingertip, now it is classic.  As far as I could tell, all the splits and frizz is gone  ;D.

Mel decided to take off another inch and she MESSED up the hemline.  It is off by an inch and she is scared to try and fix it  :o.  I didnt offer to help her cuz I am afraid to cut others hair.  I was able to make some suggestions tho and hopefully she was able to correct the mistake.  If not, she said she would be wearing it up for a very long time.

I have noticed that my hair is getting thicker.  A lot less breakage and splits since I have been using the Neem oil/Ollive oil combo.  I think my length and ends like a lot of oil and they bask in attention  ::).

Did an S&D in the sunlight today.   There were hardly any splits.  My ends are looking good also.  The only thing I think I can contribute to this is well----a couple things, is oiling, braiding/bunning consistenly and watching out for my hair when it is loose (where it goes, what is around it).  The ends/length feels very nice and it seems to be laying better.  It is taking longer to dry but that might be weather related too.  It is feeling thicker in general also.  Perhaps because of the constant oil/restraing there is less breakage.  I did a measurement today out of curiosity and its a growing.

Got the job at the sherrifs office and I am starting sometime soon.  The transfer paperwork was begun last friday and when the officer I will be working for returns from vacation, then we'll complete the paperwork.

YES!!  I have stared my new job and I love it.  It is a smaller branch of the sherrifs office soo not as "busy" (arrests wise).  My job is to scan and feed file info into a laserfisch.  I work part time 19 hours a week.  M- T, 8 hours each, and then Wed is only 3 hours long.  Yea, for long weekends.   There is talk from various corners to lengthen my hours and put me on county payroll.  I would simply love that.  The only problem is every two years my job would come to vote (budget issues) So, if the projected budget for the county doesnt pass, I could lose my job.  With the economic crisis and people losing their jobs, I am not sure how long I will be able to keep mine.  I am leaving this up to God, an He is in control anyway.  I love going to work now.   ;D.

Thanks Trisha!

This morning I decided to trim my ends. 1st, I was only going to take off the very tips, I wound up taking off 1/2 inch.  Sooo much better, the ends swing, they feel better, AND get this.  I can NO LONGER see my hand thru my ends.  They are finally full and thick.  So, perhaps trimming a 1/2 inch every 3 months in 2009 is a very good idea for me.  I am gonna try it.  Yes, I know that is cutting off 2 inches a year, but my hair grows soo fast anyway that I wont miss it.  I will gain 4 + healthy inches each year which I would rather have.  I am still undecided as to how much longer I want my hair to grow.  Fingertip seems to be where I have been keeping the length.  I had to go and buy claw clamps again today.  My hair ate my last one tuesday nite for dinner.  Glad there is a $ store in my town.

Weather is cold and delightful, blizzard warning in effect until tomarrow afternoon.  Never had the experience of a blizzard before.  We can be cold here, or have some snow, there is the black ice to contend with, but a blizzard? other than DQ!!  To my knowledge never here.

I have been putting a drop of Neem oil in my shampoo & conditioner each time I wash my hair and that is really working for me.  The scalp has been responding very well (less itching) and my length just loves it (less dry feeling).  Hair all over is softer and better looking.  I like it.  I am going to continue with this until my hair starts to hate it.

HHMMMM---- been having some new year hairsolutions thoughts today  ;D.

                                             HAIRY NEW THOUGHTS FOR 2009

1.  maintaining length as it is. continue to thicken ends.
2. let grow to fingertips (3 inches to go) and maintain there.
3.  go on past fingertips.
4.  grow to btw fgtp and knee, maintain there, see what I think, and grow on.

I have always gotten to fingertips and cut.  The 1st time I cut back to tailbone and the 2nd time I cut back to classic.  So, going past fgtp would be a new length for me.  I have always dreamed of knee length, but have been a little afraid of going there.  I have sooooo much hair, and caring for it just seemed like more than I wanted to take on.  But lately my point of view on my hair has been changing.  I know I can cut back if it becomes more than I can handle.  Also, I have learned soo much more about caring for my hair, that I might just take this on.  As I write this, the idea of going past fgtp to the area btw fgtp and knee is possible. What is that length called anyway?   Hmm, who woulda thought?

If, I decide to go only to fgtp, I would grow to 1 inch past fgtp, and maintain at that length.  The important thing is for me, a.  be able to care for the length, b. maintain the ends at their thickest.

Ya know what??  The last time I washed my hair was last Sunday!  Today is friday, my scalp feels itchy, but not nasty or anything.  My hair does NOT look the least bit oily either.  I will wash again on Sunday, but I might try to let it go again for another week.  I like not having to airdry for 12+ hours.  ;).

We have been having snow storms here.  I rode to work tues morning with a deputy in my dept. and the capt (my boss) took me home and I rode to/from work with her wed.  I was able to drive on thurs.  It is not the snow that scares me to drive in, but the black ice under the snow.  Most folks here drive waaaaay to fast for the ice conditions.  Some of them are transplants from other areas of the country and dont have annnny idea about that ice.  So, if I cant walk, I dont go. I enjoy staying home and watching the snow come down.  It is sooo pretty, and kinda romantic too.

Another snow storm is expected late this afternoon so I maybe offline again for a while.

I did the final Christmas shopping stuff this morning.  I got my friend a gift card from a favorite clothing store of ours.  I got my dad and his family a nice Christmas card.  And I bought my hair some things.  Tiny clamp barretts from the $store, hair elastics (multi-colored)..  I like the $store cuz my hair eats these things on a daily basis.  Some folks have tried to get me use the more expensive ones, but when I do, my hair still breaks them.  I dont like spending the excess money when I know the purchase will only last a week or two at the most.

I put my hair into a banded ponytail this morning.  I certainly like that style.  It took 7 elestics, a hand-span apart to go down my length. This style is great for shopping, it stays out of the way, but its not up.  In this kinda weather, my updos die anyway.   Yaaaaaaah  :o.  I think I've grown back the 1/2 inch I cut off on Dec. 5.

The storm is over!!  It blew over my area of the state, we did get ice but not as bad as the northern 1/2 of the state.  My pastors son & daughter in law got stuck at her parents and maybe they will be home today.

I visited my dad yesterday for Christmas.  He has really aged in a week!  :'(.  He intoduced himself to me yesterday and asked me how it felt to not be dead anymore.  Well, after looking thru some family pictures, I can understand where he might be coming from.  I look EXACTLY like his aunt who has been dead for over 50 years.  He was a young man when she passed away.  No wonder he is confused.  He thinks I am her.  It is kinda odd tho to have him introduce himself to me, then I call him dad.  His wife says he sleep alot now.  It seems as tho living makes him tired  :'(.  Hearing things like that make me sad.

Considering a change to my hair resolutions for 2009  ::).  I am seriously thinking of letting grow 3 more inches this year which is to the hemline of my favorite wool sweater (1/2" past fingertip). Once, I reach that length, I will cut it every 3 months back to that length.  I believe that is a total length of 44 incihes.  My hair is sooo thick, that any longer maybe too hard for me to maintain.

OOOOOORRRRRRR NOT!!!  Wrings hands, paces back and forth. I could come up with many more ideas before I decide on one.  I am soo fickle.  We'll see.   :-/  :-/

I fluctuate a lot with my ultimate goal length too, Debr.

Sorry about your dad's condition.  My grandma has Alzheimer's (I'm not saying that's what your dad has) and it just makes me sad to witness her deterioration.

I have been sick this week.  This is the 1st day I actually feel like being a person.  I had to miss church last Sunday nite and again last nite (New Years Eve watch nite service).  My cough is still horendous, I sound like a fog horn when I cough.  I did work as I couldnt afford to miss.  I went to bed at 1:30pm yesterday and slept until this morning at 8:00am.  I did get woke up once at midnight (fireworks going off).

My mom measured my hair for me this morning and it is at 42 inches  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif].  I am still sooo undecided about hairs length for the next year :-[ ::) :-/ :-/.  O well.

Just thought of another new idea.  I printed the new morrocco method lunar hair cutting chart for 2009.  I might consider trimming each month on the thickening cycle or maybe the lengthening cycle.  I would only dust the ends with my scissors.   ::).  Doing this type of dusting wouldnt really remove length the way my hair grows, but it would keep the ends thicker and quite probably in better condition.  Then, I wouldnt have to cut soo much every quarter.  It probably would keep my hemline more even too.  Hmm.

I did an s & d today.  We had a brief moment of sunshine so I took advantage, my scissors, comb and a lawn chair and sat in the sun and did my thing.  Hardly any splits, a couple of knots, one weird I dont what to call it, but they are all gone for now.  I will continue with my normal cycle s & d's for the general length/body of my hair for 2009.

So many new ideas, soo very little time to try them all.

AAHHHHH!!  Finally  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]  I have decide what I am gonna do for this next year's cutting schedule.  Since my hair's longest ever length was/is fingertip, I have decided to continue with the every 3 month-take off 1/2 inch schedule.  Does that make sense?

I realized this morning that there is still some damage from when I blowfried/straightened many years ago.  I would like to get all of that off.  I have also noticed that my hair is in better over all shape by doing the ends every 3 months.  So, I aint gonna mess with success at this time.

I am also wondering if I can grow PAST fingertip.  Knee has always been my goal length but fear has been holding me back.  Yea, I am afraid I wont be able to properly care for that much hair.  Whenever I think about my hair and its care, I still visualize it at knee length.

I have approximately 6 inches to remove so that all of my length is virgin.  2 years cut/grow?  I wonder if I can do it.  :-?.  That would mean I would be maintaining at my current length (almost fingertip for 2 more years), then grow on.  Hmmm-I dont about that.  Lets do the math.  Cutting off 1/2" every 3 months, 4X yearly, = 3", I would gain 3 inches yearly if I grow an average of 6" a year.  Cutting off 1/2 of my growth each year, in 2 years I will have cut off the remaining damage and still have gained 6".  I cant think where that puts my final length.  Oh wait, that might just put me pretty close to knee.  YES!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]  OK, I'm game, I am gonna try it.  All dilemmas solved.  I can get on with my hair growing llife.

O'man,  I havent been here for about a week.  I have had a migraine headache since Sunday.  It is gone now, but I feel like I have a hangover.  My dr calls that a "migraine hangover."  It will be a day or two before I start feellin great again.

I have been trying to only wash my hair once a week, but now I am gonna go back to 2x cuz my scalp is going crazy.  It has been cold here so my hair takes all day to get dry.  I washed it at 830 this morning and it is still damp in some places   :(.

Last Sunday nite, one of our ladies leaned over and said to my friend, " I think she (referring to me) should share some that (my hair) it was in a braid and my hair is very thick. ;D.  It made me feel better.  I am at the point where this is the longest my hair has gotten and I am not quite sure what to do about it.  :o.  I usually cut it at this point.  On we grow!  Lets see if I can continue.

Well, it really has been awhile since I was here.  2 weeks.  I have been going thru some stuff with my hair.  I dont know if it is cuz the skies are gray, or I am getting older, more gray is coming in, or maybe I am in need of some excitement.  I WANT TO DO SOMETHING TO MY HAIR!!!!!!  I have been thinking about a bright red color.  So it has to be the gray skies.  The only that is stopping me is the growout.  I,ve been there, done that, dont wanna do it again.  Unavoidable if I color, then stop.  My hairs length is 42+ inches and still growing.  I am still cutting a 1/2 inch off every 3 months.  S & D every other week.

I did a braid measurement today out of curiosity.  It measures 4 1/2" at the top, 3 3/4" in the middle, and 3" at the end.  Very little tapering which is what I am aiming for.

I just thought, what about a cassia rinse? That would add shne without color, it might revve me up, without doing a lot of damage to my ends.  My ends are sooo healthy now, all that trimming and s & d, and just basic caring.

Part of these feelings are also becuz I havent blown my hair dry on a daily basis for about 4 years now, nor has my hair seen the sun in about 3 years.  My hair is turnning darker as it grows and I am now 2 toned.  The gray is more obvious in the darker hair. The darker hair is to the top of my bra strap, very thick and healthy.

I have found out also that some of my recent headaches are due to poor positioning of my updos.  My head actually is very small under all of this hair.  If I position the do wrong, even off just minutly, it starts to slip, and my neck automatically adjusts for the slipping, and I get a headache.  I have been braiding more, but I get tired of that too, as the braid can get into the way of seat adjustment thingy on my chair at work. It isnt "safe" to leave my hair down.  So, it is either up or in a braid.  Even then, my braid has to start in the middle of my head, cuz if it is off just a bit, I will get a headache.  What do I do??  O me, O my!!  What a dilemma. (wrings hands, paces back and forth).
I was sooo frustrated last week, I have considered SHAVING it off.  But then, winter is here and it is cold outside.

On the up side, I managed to do my grandmothers braided bun the other day.  It made my hair heavier, but I resemble her moreso when I did my hair like hers.  Then I began to miss her.  She went on to her reward back in 1991.  My grandmother's hair was as thick as mine, and almost mid - thigh.  I am slmost there now.

Hi, Debr.  Yeah, the winter blahs can make you want to do crazy things!  This coming Wednesday I'm having cassia put on my hair.  I ordered mine from www.hennacaravan.com .   I buy my henna for mehndi from them and they are good people to do business with.

Han in there and remember, spring is less than 2 months away!!

Thanks Sakina,  There is growout with cassia/henna isnt there?  I am hanging in here, but----- my hair is really getting grey.  I noticed it yesterday.  I am not so blah now, the weather is changing, it is getting warmer.  I have decided to cut off an inch of length next month.  I have also decided that fingertip ( 42" on me) is long enuf.  I do believe that knee length is very pretty, and I have always wanted that length, but it is too hard for me to care for.  So, I am gonna maintain at fingertip until I decide otherwise.

That means I might decide at a later time to go to the knees.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago about applying for a postion in the clerks office.  Well, I got the "thank for applying, the position is filled letter" yesterday.  I was sooo disappointed  :'(.  I really wanted a chance to interview.  I am leaving it in God's hands.

Yep!!  Good day to be alive :).  The sun is shining, albeit cold.

I am going to try an experiment in the next few days.  I was reading an article on another hair care board that adding green tea (bagged) to condish, it will add a red shimmer to hair.  My hair color is pretty blah right now so perhaps this is something I can try without damage.  Maybe just a hint of color or shine could be all I need to get thru the winter blahs.  I also bought some hair, skin, and nails vitamins and I began taking them today.  So, I will see what happens next.

Didnt do the tea, it sounded like too much work.  I am craving shine in my hair.  I am considering doing something to it to get the shine.  I was kinda thinking about shaving it all off the other day.  Whew, I am glad I am past that now.  I bought a product called "Venetion Oil" at sallys tuesday, and I kinda like it.  No shine, but hair is real soft.  I could not read the print on the box (waaay tooo tiny) so I couldnt tell if it was cones or not.  Oh well, sometimes even a few cones is ok in my hair.  I STILL WANT SHINE!!!!  How can I get loads of shine without a lot of work??  HUH, tell me, tell me??

Hair is getting past fingertips so I am planning to cut off an inch next thursday.  Maybe that will help with my I gotta have shine mood.

Debr  ;)

You could try doing a colourless glaze. I've never used them before, so I have no idea how well they work or how long they last, but I've been curious about them.

Well, here we are again!  I did a 1 inch trim to the ends on the 5 of March.  Lookin good. I am currently maintaining at 42" until I decide what to do.  My ends do need to thicken up more and there is still some damage that needs to come off.   No color thingys done either as I dont know what I want  ::).    Did a dusting in the sun wednesday and its been raining since then.

O'boy, I did a good thing today :).  I ordered some Neem shampoo & condish for my hair today.  I had to order it from an Indian grocery store in another town cuz noone in my town carries anything but the norm.  It likes the oil, but the shampoo I use with it is causing my scalp to itch and flake.  It is not a differant brand of shampoo, but for some reason my scalp hates it.  Hair is looking good otherwise.  There is some damage to come off and with time and patience that will happen.  The weather here is definately of the spring variety, cant make up its mind  ::).

I am well otherwise.  Been praying for more hours at work.
