Title: Mother of the Bride
Post by DonnaG on May 13th, 2007 at 3:09am
Hello everyone,

I have one year (5/10/08) until my daughter gets married. I know it's a way off, but I have been having a difficult time even finding pictures of long hair styles. Mine is to my waist. The styles I've found for "long" (that being just below shoulder length) have all just been loose waves in one form or another. My other  issue is that the wedding will be in San Diego (I live 90 mi. away in Riverside), so if I'm not fixing it myself, I'll have to go to the salon in the hotel and try it out ahead of time. Any ideas?? Suggestions??

Donna

For what's worth,DonnaG,don't let them tease your hair whatsoever!!!  For some reason, alot of hairstylists, not saying all,but they love to tease hair.  It is one of the worst things you could ever do to your hair!  I'm sure you already know that though :-[

Congratulations!  This next year will be an interesting one for you!

Just 3 years ago my son was married.  Due to unusual circumstances, the bride-to-be was living with us just before the wedding, so I got to be mother of the bride and the groom!!!!!

I wore my hip length hair in a simple bun with a pair of LongLocks hairsticks that complimented the colors of my dress.  I knew I would have NO time to have my hair done on that special day, so I opted for simple, yet elegant.

Hello, DonnaG  :)

Congrats to your daughter.

I have lived in San Diego all of my life and can tell you that it has many, many beautiful settings for a wedding. I'm sure it will be lovely no matter what.

As for your hair, do you have any favourite styles that you can do yourself? A few flowers or a well placed barrette can dress up even the simplest of styles.
If you're planning to have your hair professionally done, be prepared to shell out the big bucks. Hotel salons are not cheap! You'd be better off finding a smaller salon in the area where you'll be staying.

If the wedding is outdoors, wear sunblock and possibly a wide brimmed hat. May in San Diego is usually very dry and hot. But living in Riverside, I'm sure you're quite used to that.

Good luck.  :)

Thank you all for your comments. The last time I teased my hair was in 1967 for my Junior HS yearbook picture! LOL  They are getting married at the Loew's Coronado, right in the middle of the bay, 4pm outdoor wedding, cocktail hour right after on the upper terrace, then a sit down dinner reception indoors (with an attached patio). I have a stylist who does beautiful braids, but she's here in Riverside. I don't think I want to have her do my hair Friday morning (we're going to SD in the afternoon, the rehearsal is in the evening). I definitely plan to use some sort of fresh flowers. If you come across any pics on the Net of styles with flowers send them my way! I need all the help I can get! LOL.
