Title: Specializing in Long Hair - Wilmington, NC Post by NCBeaches on Feb 20th, 2007 at 4:43pm
I love my hair person but since I have grown my hair long I don't think she is up on the latest styles or knows what to do with my hair. I've tried to explain how I'd like it but its just not working.

Hi and welcome! As most of us here will tell you - when it comes to long hair, few stylists know how to handle it. The nature of their business is to work with hair that requires constant maintenance for trims and/or chemical processing. That's why sites like this become so popular - we have to help each other! ;)

Thanks...and here I thought I was unique ;) I want more layers around my face but not layered in the back (too thick and too poofy in the humidity) Can't be done says she. By the way, that picture is from last summer so there's been a lot of growth. |

Very nice....that could be arranged ;D. I drive several times a years up to North Jersey. What I'm seeing is the hair in the back does not have to be heavily layered to have layers in the front. |

Well I finally bite the bullet and tried a new place. Admired another long hair person and she recommended her guy right here in town. He did exactly what I wanted. Face framed layers, one length in the back. Not sure why my former hairdresser could not get this right but I'm happy. I guess some hairdressers just cannot cut longer hair.
I did read this on the internet (Allure) recently and it made sense for me. A Haircut That Flatters Most: Layer: The key is not too layer too much in back. The best layers are left to the front & are meant to frame the face, but never go above the eye on short hair or above earlobes on long hair. Don't go too long Don't grow your hair more than a few inches above the collarbone. Only girls 18 & younger can get away with hair that falls below their breasts. Go for the 'v-shape cut' Actually, this is my tip (not me, the author) , not Allure's. If you have long hair, get your hair cut in the back in a V-shape |

I'm glad you received a cut you are happy with!
As for the article in Allure, well...... let's just leave it with, everyone is entitled to their opinion and my opinion is a bit different. 8-) |
