I thought that I could share some intersting hairs facts with you all and maybe start some discussions :P some of the things i learned when i was in cosomotology school made me think really hard about hair and how even though someone/something says you must do x for your hair to be healthy or because you hair x type of hair your only option is x it is not necessarily true, take this interstings fact:

the hair density (the number of individual hair strands on one square inch, 2.5 cm of scalp) is usually directly related to your natural hair color with blondes at the highest and red heads at the lowest:
blonde 140,000
brown 110,000
black 108,000
red 80,000
approx.

which I have always found amusing cuz I am a red head with a thick hair density.

That is interesting and to me, it doesn't sound accurate.  Usually blonde's (natural blondes) tend to have thin hair or at least all of the ones I've seen.  I only ever see really thick hair on people with naturally dark hair and of course red heads. :)

I have read those numbers before as well.  The science behind them, are that blondes tend to have thin hair, so they can have more hair follicles per square inch of scalp than darker hair which is more coarse.  My unscientific observations support this.

my eldest daughter now 20 has natural white blond hair and it is very thick (6" circumference) she also has olive skin which goes against the norm too!

I've got thin brown hair, olive skin and blue eyes! :-X

Well,  I thought I could give my opinion on this also.  I am a redhead with very thick 61/4 inch (circumference) hair.  I have seen blondes with very thick and very thin hair.  I dont put any stock into charts  ::).

I think that generally they do have a point and there will of course always be exceptions but fx. blondes generally do tend to have fine hair and some of them have fine and sparse hair, others have fine hair but very dense hair.  Asians like myself (Mongolid type hair, not including S.Asians from fx. India) tend to have coarse, thick hair with a wide diameter.  Some really do have dense hair too but the majority don't.  

Finer hair strands can cover more cm2 on a scalp than a hair strand with a wider diamter as bikerbraid stated.  

Redheads supposedly have the thickest diameter of Caucasian hairtypes while they have the sparsest amount of hair of Caucasian "types".  Sorry, I'm not trying to make it sound as if anyone is an alien breed.  

I differentiate between thick and dense hair.  I take thick hair as being a reference to the diameter and having many hairs on a scalp I refer to as having dense hair.  I get so irritated with those sites/articles that say you can determine the thickness of your hair by putting it into a ponytail and measuring the diameter.  That's all very well, but then they go on to give general tips on how to care for "thick", "medium" and "fine" hair. ::)

All good intentions may be there but a girl with dense but fine hair may still not be able to get good results with heavier hair care products.  That's the point I'm trying to make but I don't have fine hair so I don't know for sure but I know that fine hair care products don't work for me even though the amount of hair on my scalp is sparse.

They're only general "facts".  There will always be exceptions.  It may be helpful for some.  Geeks like me enjoy reading "factual" stuff for the sake of it.  

I am a natural blonde, but have very thick hair looking at each strand and all of it together.  I dont know if I would agree with these charts because I do also know people who have very thin blonde hair as well as other people like myself with thick blonde hair. :-/

It's kind of odd because people with curly hair usually have thin hair that just looks thick because of the curlyness.  But my aunt (who has really curly hair that she straightens) was really surprised the first (and only) time she straightened my hair because it was actually iii, it didn't just look it.
