Title: A 6 year olds long curly locks Post by MurmuringMelodies on Sep 30th, 2006 at 11:16pm
Hi! I have a six year old cousin who likes to have "sleep overs" with me. She has very curly long hair (her hair is in the middle of her back) It is a huge task to untangle her hair. So how do I comb/brush it without tugging on her hair and hurting her?

Hi. I use a wide tooth wooden comb to gently comb through my hair. I start at the bottom and work my way up. When I have it all tangle free,I put it in a ponytail at the nap of my neck, then use scunchies a few inches apart down the length of my hair. I then use a Satin Sox on the length. Satin Sox is something I invented for people with hair long enough to put in a ponytail to protect their hair, keep it tangle free, knot free when they sleep or need to keep their hair out of the way while they do other activities that require their hair be safe and out of the way. You can p/m me and I'll give you further details about it. Hope this helps!

CurlGirl's suggestion works very well to keep long hair from tangling while sleeping. Another option would be to braid her hair before bed. A single braid or side braids work well. Be sure that whatever you are securing the ends with is hair friendly - no metal, no direct contact with rubber.
