Does anybody use plain ol' baby shampoo?

Hey Trisha, :)
I tried using baby shampoo once. After realizing that many of the shampoos I'd been using had detergents like ammonium laureth & lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate in them, I wanted to try something else. The "gentle" ingredients in baby shampoo lured me in...but it turned out to be a verrrry bad plan. After just one washing, my hair felt gummy & dry as a bone - it was awful!! I guess in their conquest for pure, gentle ingredients, they also neglected to include good things...like conditioners, etc. And don't be fooled by the "moisturizing" and "detangling" formulas either. With the exception of colour and fragrance, they are all the same exact formula. The one I bought was "moisturizing" and it absolutely fried my hair. :( In the end, I concluded that it was better to keep searching for a really great adult shampoo. ;D Anyway, of course you can still try it out if you want. I'm just sharing my unfortunate experience. |

I've tried the baby shampoo too-- both plain and the one with detangler. While I didn't notice and ill effects on my hair, I didn't like the lather-- or lack thereof! I had to use a ton of it to feel like I was getting my hair clean. Not that I am trying for "squeaky" clean, but just that I want to feel like it's working a bit at least! :o
Strange, too, because it always lathered SO well for my little ones when they were babies. *shrug* Firefly |

i think baby hair just doesn't need any extra's. my daughters hair looks so healthy and shiny after i use it on her, but if i use it....... it's like a free for all on my head. zero moisture and tons of poofiness and flyaways and it looks dull.

i've never tried it as an adult but when i was a baby it worked my hair wonders. My hair had a beautiful shine, and it was very healthy. But I haven't used that ol' shampoo since I was 5 years old. A hairdresser told me once that if i was going to be frequent shampooer then i should use baby shampoo. because, it is very much more gentler on the hair then adult shampoo. til' this day I don't believe that is true. because, i've been using adult shampoos and conditioners from when I was 7 years old, they haven't damaged my hair or caused it to stop growing longer.
