Title: On the road again....
Post by bikerbraid on May 23rd, 2006 at 2:22pm
I did it!  I was finally able to bike to work.  Ankles held up well (still swollen, but not painful biking).  In honor of this great event, I have put my ticker back to the countdown to my 6 day bike trip in August.

Now..... I just have to get HOME on my bike!  ;D

It's 6:30. Are you home yet?

Doesn't it feel great to ride again?

Here, a new path was introduced along hwy. 100 for about 5 or so miles. Sounds like a step in the right direction until I read how many millions it will cost. No wonder they don't get built.

Yes, I made it home OK.  I had a meeting at the church last night, so I rode there, did some bookwork, attended the meeting and then headed home - just before a storm rolled in.

Bike needs some work on the gears, hopefully hubby can get to it this week.

My sprained ankle is a bit sore today, but the swelling is down, so that is good.

Sir Rat; making trails is never cheap, but hopefully people recognize the benefits of them and make the funding available.

I've biked to work 3 days this week.  Add to that the biking we did over the weekend, and I have biked over 120 miles this week!  Whoo hoo!  I was dead tired yesterday (the only day I did not bike - I needed a rest day).  But today I felt good riding in and even added 3 hills to my ride.

My ankles are liking the riding.  They no longer look like elephant ankles, just slightly larger than usual.  There is hope for me yet!

We've missed you!  Yes, unfortunately, I fell and badly twisted the other ankle.  It has slowed my recovery some, but every day things get better!

Good Grief!!!  I'm happy to hear you've been able to get back to biking though.  Do you have enough time to get ready for Sagbraw?

Thankfully I made it through Uganda without further incident.  I have been given a 2-month warning by my orthopedist...that ankle stops swelling and hurting by the end of July OR ELSE!

I'm about a month behind in my training for SAGBRAW, but I should be OK.  I may not be as fast this year, but I should be able to handle the distances.

I know what you mean about the swelling ankle.  If my sprained ankle swelling does not go down, I may need surgery on it as well.  I hope that you get your ankle back in shape soon.

Please start a new thread and tell us more about your trip to Uganda!

Bikerbraid-

Have you ever done  Ragbrai....the bike ride across Iowa?  Just wondering... :-[

No, I've not done RAGBRAI and probably never will.  I have no desire to bike with 10,000 people.  SAGBRAW has about 1000 people on it and even our group can wipe out a town of all of its food and beverages.  I've also seen the damage that RAGBRAI can do to a town (having lived in a town that the bike ride decended upon).  I personally do not care to be a part of that kind of behavior - even though I know it is a small percentage that makes a bad name for the riders.

Probably the biggest reason I wouldn't ride it at this time is that RAGBRAI is a difficult ride.  People may think Iowa is flat, but there are hills and grades that can be very difficult.  The daily distances on the ride are a bit more than I like to ride for so many days.  And let's not forget the heat.  Biking across Iowa in July is HOT and HUMID!

BB-

I was just wondering about RAGBRAI.  I have fond memories of having a RAGBRAI  biker stay  overnight at our house while passing though Onawa (yes, I'm from Onawa-birthplace of the Eskimo Pie!)... I guess I was about 10.  Strange memories we have sometimes. :-[

Anyway, good luck on your next ride, and my you have healthy ankles!
