Title: Kneelength or longer? Post by Blondestorm on Apr 12th, 2006 at 6:13pm
Hello everyone!
I am a new member with hair to my waist. I was wondering how many of you ladies here have hair to your knees or longer? I am amazed that anyone's hair will grow that long! Mine seems to be at terminal length just past my waist around the top of my butt. Does anyone here have floorlength hair? Thanks for such a wonderful site. Jim |

Knee length and longer is rare. We have had members with hair that long, but I don't think any are actively posting right now (maybe they will come back?) I know of several gals with such extreme length, it is a beautiful sight!

Bikerbraid,
I see you have one more day on crutches! Did you have a bicycle accident and injury? Glad to see you're about to lay them down. How long is your braid, by the way? Jim |

I broke my ankle when I slipped on some ice. :P You can read the sordid details here.
My braid is a bit past waist length right now. ;D |

Hi there,
also new here. hair is 56 inches long and about calf lentgth. Tapering off somewhat now and i believe it my hair has reached its terminal length as no growth in past few months.Pity as i was wanting to see if it would reach ankles. As jim previously stated this is a great site wirth plenty of encouragement to maintain long and healthy hair irrespective whether or not it is grown by either a man or a woman. From a personal point of view it is great not to be stigmatised for daring not to conform to the norm and have the stereo typical short male hairstyle. jon |

Hi, Jon. Congratulations on such great lengh! Perhaps you will share with us what has worked for you getting to calf length. Your hair looks very thick and gorgeous.
How long have you been growing it? Maybe you will introduce yourself and tell your story in the New Members area? Welcome! |

Welcome Jon!
You have reached a rare length - congratulations. Your hair may still grow longer. I know of a number of people with extreme length that have experienced several months of minimal or no growth. These resting periods can be frustrating, but give it time - you may still reach your goal. |

Hi bikerbraid,
thanks for your word of encouragement. I have not yet given up hope on reaching goal.On checking the availability of hair products on line i came across biotin based hair capsules called ultrahair. Thinking about ordering them from the states. They may help to restimulate growth. Iam also thinking about trimming back my hair a few inches to bring it back to all one length. This may also help.If anyone has any more suggestions i would love to hear of them. i am also now going to put a few words into the new members introduction page about hair history as requested by sakina.still just finding way round board and i am fairly encouraged in view of all hair info available.love your user name by the way. can i assume that apart from your hair you have a love of biking?. i have this mental picture in my head of you driving down the us highway on chopper bike, easy rider style,(remember cult movie with dennis hopper and peter fonda),with born to be wild blaring out in the background and your long plaits blowing in the breeze! jon |

LOL! Lots of people initially have that image, but no, I am a human-powered biker. However, my bike is a recumbent bike, so I ride in a position similar to the chopper. My current avatar shows Sir Rat's rendition of me on my bicycle (but I always wear a helmet when biking). |

Jon,
That's amazing hair you have! I thought mine was long at waistlength. How long did it take you to grow such tresses? Incredible length! Jim |

Hi guys,
thanks for all the support. great to read about everyones viewpoint on having or endeavouring to have longer hair. Regarding jim's earlier question i started growing hair long in late teens. Until then hair had been rather short and ordinary. Initially hair grew just though not being bothered to getting it cut. As it grew i became aware of how versatile my hair could be and how i could vary the styles through either braids, pony tails, wearing hair loose or indeed partially loose with interwoven plait or pony tail. Being short i was very much restricted as to how i could vary my look.By my early to mid twenties my hair was being maintained at mid back length. Liking the attraction i was getting for perhaps being rather unusual in having relatively long hair i became curious as to how long my hair could grow. Round about 1994 i made a conscious effort to grew my hair even longer and by about my 33rd year i reached waist length which found easy to maintain. Hair remained and this length until about 2000 (33inches roughly). At the new year going into the year 2000 i made a new years resolution to grow my hair to its terminal length. I cannot think as to why i decided this. May be it just because subconsciously i had developed a great love and fascination for long hair. Hair gradually increased in length by about 6 inches per year( regular trims of about an inch every 6 months or so).Growth was maintained until last summer when it all of a sudden it appeared to stop growing. I just use a regular anti dandruff shampoo (scalp can be flaky at times ) and don't really use any speciall treatment on hair apart from washing in luke warm water.I also use wide toothed comb and good quality bristle hair brush. Currently about mid calf length.Rarely wear hair loose, tending to wear hair in single plait which is also style i adopt when sleeping.Don't use hair dryer either. After washing hair i am prone to settingup a clothes horse behind my chair and draping hair though it, allowing it to partialyy dry while i sometimes go for a snooze!. Currently not in a relationship.Don't know how my wife or girlfriend would react to having partner with hair longer than them. Sometimes people can be cruel and make unfair judgements on my sexuality such because i am so long haired and not in a relationship at present. Don't worry as i am quite happy at present and i do have many friend both male and female who accept me for who i am- heterosexual by the way!. Live and let live is what i say. I personally do not have any hang ups regarding how anyone should live their life or pass any judgements on how a person should look.In saying that i probably would appreciate that everyone keep themselves relatively clean and tidy. Any way i think i am beginning to ramble on a little too much. Take care for now. jon |

EWW! Not washing your hair but once a year. :P Yuck! I'm a germaphobe. I wash every day, usually.
Katrin from Russia has hers all nice, and Dyq from China has some serious Rapunzel hair (I wonder how she washes it and combs it). |
Title: Re: Kneelength or longer? Post by rhpetunia on Aug 20th, 2006 at 4:42pm
Actually, if someone washes once per year, they are probably better protected against germs. Washing alters the acid mantle of the skin and scalp, and when that happens, the germs can pass right through the skin/scalp a lot easier.

I loves Crystal Gayles loooooong hair!! And then she cut it! I wanted my hair as long as hers when I was younger. Now that I am older and in the military I am glad I don't I would be taking HOURS to do my hair for work as opposed to about 20-30 minutes! :)

It is years since I have seen Crystal Gayle on the TV over here in the UK. Back then her hair was floor length. How long is her hair now?

I'm curious about that, too. I did not even know she had cut it! :o I would hope it was a trim!!! Wishful thinking, maybe. Does anyone know how much she cut off???

Title: Re: Kneelength or longer? Post by bikerbraid on Aug 23rd, 2006 at 10:17am
Not being a Crystal Gayle follower, I don't know what her current length is. The shortest I've seen it is about tailbone. I know I read somewhere that she would regularly cut her hair to knee length once it reached the floor. She did this as a maintenance cut, recognizing that floor length was impractical for her performances. Her hair grows at an amazing rate and is obviously very strong. I was surprised, however, that it is not very thick. Her braids are not that much thicker than mine!

Title: Re: Kneelength or longer? Post by Curlgirl64 on Aug 23rd, 2006 at 4:17pm
Thanks. Her hair always looked thin when I saw it to the floor, thus me thinking it was easier for her to take care of being thin. BB,your hair doesn't look thin though. Your hair is beautiful :)

Curlygirl64,
I would have to say the shortest I've seen on Crystal Gayle is neck length. I remember back sometime in the mid 1990's she was singning in a concert on the "Nashville," channel, and it wa pretty short. I was really shocked! I don't know what is her current length is today either. I was hoping that she was only getting her hair trimmed too instead of cut. That is wishful thinking :) |

I don't know my hair terminal length, but I'm very very very much hoping to grow it to my knees and longer. But how long will that take? :-/

Title: Re: Kneelength or longer? Post by Curlgirl64 on Jun 16th, 2007 at 11:33am
Usually hair grows on avergae a half inch a month. If you choose to keep track of how it's growing or not,you can measure evey month, some people measure every three months. Alot of us here on the boards use a tape measure and start at the hairline, let the tape measure go over your head and down your length. Take the measurement at the longest hair and viola!! there's your measurement!
