*sigh*  I'm not sure where to begin.  

My inlaws have requested that we come to Indonesia and help them out.  My husband is the eldest son, which is a big deal in Chinese culture.  My sister-in-law has been helping for a while, but she has her work and family (2 kids) in Singapore and has used up her personal time.
We had planned to go this July for hubby's 20th high school reunion, but it looks like we'll be there sooner.  As soon as we can make it.  The price of tickets is really high, but we want to get paperwork out of the way and look for a place of our own that is close to their home.
I'm not sure I can continue co-moderating, BB we'll need to discuss it and I can PM you with more details or whatever.
I'm a bit discombobulated.  Now I've got to figure out how to handle the cats.  Yikes!
I hope I'll still be able to be a part of LL, I don't know how reliable my connection will be over there.

Where to start..... you may not agree with me but I have to say this.   :-/
 
You are an American citizen - why should you have to sacrifice everything for your husband's family?  You have family here, you have your home, you have your cats, you have everything HERE!!!  

Your husband is expecting an awful lot of you to pick up and move so far away from your family, friends and home.  You may need to revaluate your relationship.

Could you stay here in the US while your husband takes care of things in Indonesia?  Wait to see if things work out before you pick up and move everything?

I hope everything works out for you and your family.

Sakina, at first I thought you meant you would just go for a month or two - my family members go back to the PI every so often.  But towards the end of your message it sounds like a permanent move..?  If it is permanent, I sure hope you get a good connection there because I would really miss seeing you on the board.  It sounds like an adventure and a good opportunity to learn about a different culture.  And Bali is gorgeous!  

I don`t know you at all Sakina, but I wish you luck in your new venture. I lived abroad in India and Turkey as a child and look back upon these years as full of life-enhancing experiences. I`ve spent the last thirty years in grey old Scotland (except for holidays) but I still remember my childhood as a wonderful dazzle of heat and colour. My sister moved to Hong Kong with her Hubby and two young kids for five years, and she says it was one of the best times of her life.

Such big changes can look awfully scarey, but they can bring huge benefits to your life and enhance the way you see the world. Look upon it as an opportunity and you`ll be 99% there.

Wow be careful. I mean have fun and all, but their laws are tought! If you are even caught with drugs (liek someone put it in your bag) you'll gte 40 years. This 25 year old woman from Australia almost got teh execution penatly, but she remainned calm so they gave her 20 or 40 year (I'm not usre which), and she had no lawyer and no help from Australia (the U.S. woudln't be able to do anything either_. And I believe her that the drugs were places in her luggage...it can happen. So be careful and vigilant.
