Hey guys, I just dropped in for some emotional support.  I had to CUT a knot out of my hair Sunday night :'(  I don't know what happened!  I had my hair in a rather nice French braid, and then when I took it out that night so I could shower, there was a big hairy knot in my hair half way up, about the size of a penny!  I spent about 45 minutes trying to get as much hair out of the knot as possible, and then I had to cut the rest off.  Fortunately the knot was on the underside of my hair, and in a small lock of hair, but I just about cried, because in 5 years of growing out my hair I've only had to cut out a knot twice.  Then when I got rid of the knot, I discovered that the hair high up on the back of my head was sticky!!!!  I don't know what got into it, but the sticky stuff had penetrated multiple layers and attracted tiny fuzzies, which my hair loves to knot around. Arrrggghhh!  I managed to comb it all out without having to cut anymore, but I'm very confused as to what happened.  Not to mention that I didn't even get in the shower till midnight, so I went to bed after 2am because I spent so much time rinsing my hair to make sure the gunk was out, and then airdrying it.  After all the damage that probably happened I refused to add to it by using a hot hair dryer, although I did get tired enuf to use it a bit on a cold setting.  I certainly hope this never happens again!

ick :P  I hate it when gunk gets in my hair - especially when I don't know what the gunk is!

Having to cut a knot out is traumatic. Hugs for you.  Hopefully this won't happen again.

Yeek, that doesn't sound too good! I'll have my fingers crossed for you that it doesn't happen again.
