I love to read for entertainment and escape.  I mostly read adverture/mysteries.  My favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, John Grisham, Michael Crichton, and most recently Michael Connelly.

For a change of pace, I just finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden (LOVED IT!) and a cute, feel good story, A Good Yarn by Debbie Macomber.


What are the rest of you reading?

I love to read too.  My favorite genre is probably fantasy; of course Tolkien is a favorite author and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is excellent.

I love motorcycling and lately I've read every book on motorcycle travel I can find; I'm reading an account by Ted Simon; he rode around the world in 1974 and wrote about it. It's pretty good.

I also love Stephen King; his stories are more engaging than anything else I've read.

I was thinking of reading Memoirs of a Geisha.  I like books about other places/societies.  Is it good in that respect?

My preference is love stories, romance.  :-*

I can't remember the last one I read though--it's been awhile.  I prefer writing my own, but I can't seem to get published.  ::) ::) ::)

I found it to be very interesting in describing the culture and society as well as the personal aspects of becoming a geisha.

I read Tolkien's books and loved them. I also read Memoirs of a Geisha It really did pull you into Japanese society during the time period. It also tells you more about geishas and I learned that there are two kinds. The Main chracter is of the higher level (the lower level is mor elike being a prostitue) but the higher level (which I htink beauty can only take you) is more high paying and "glamorous." Some of these women became really famous. However, in a way it;s the same because they are selling their bodies and image to men, but with more sophistication and freedom. What was interesting is that they ar ento allowed to marry, but they can have a "donna." And it's like beingn a mistress to a man (I think he pays for it). But the main chracter falls in love with a man and well I think thats also forbidden. But don't worry you just have to rea dthe book to see what happens to her :P I also found it interesting that the author was a western man. He certainly did his homework.

My fav authors are Lurlene McDaniel, and Joan Bauer.

McDaniel writes mostly about kids with disease such as cancer, and with a sprinkle of romance :-* How Do I Love Thee really made me teary....

Bauer writes about, well..it's mostly about a girl who whats to prove herself. I could really relate to most of the stories, and i have learned a lot from the books.

Right now I'm reading the Earth's Children Series by Jean Auel (for like the hundreth time) And The Vampire Chronicles- I just finished Queen of the Damned. I mainly read fantasy books, and romance. I do want to read Memoires.

I like to read, too. But being dyslexic, I'm very bad at doing so. Therefore, I rarely read and almost never finish novels. It takes at least a month of reading to finish one. :(

So, what am a I reading now? Well boring stuff to all you, I guess. I'm reading up on solid state relay circuits, DMX dimming technology, and brushing up on BASIC computer programming language for some new controllers I'm building. I read lots of articles on the internet, too.

If you all run out of stuff to read, I recomend, 'A Tale of Two Best Friends' by yours truly.... ;D

Right now, I'm working on The Complete Tales And Poems Of Edgar Allan Poe.

He's always been one of my favourite writers.  ;)

In November, I finished the entire Sherlock Holmes Canon...written, of course, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

No, the book is a fiction novel whose main character owns a yarn store.  The story is about the lives of several people who come to a class to learn to knit socks.  The yarn store is just the means to tie together several women who otherwise would have nothing in common.  

It is a quick, easy read.  The kind of book that makes you feel good when you are done.  One of the characters is a girl who will be a senior in high school who's mother died so she has had to move in with her grandmother in another town.  The grandmother is a bit of a character herself.  It has some humorous moments, some sad moments, and a little surprise at the end.

I understand totally about the dyslexia - I too suffer with the malady.  I'm not the fastest reader, but I found that I need to practice to keep my speed up.  

I'll also admit that I've been "cheating" lately - and I listen to the audio books.  I prefer the unabridged versions so that I get the entire book.  The nice part about listening to the books is I can do other things at the same time - like knit, clean, even surf the net!

And you know I LOVE your story and always wait anxiously for the next chapter to be announced!

I just finished a book about the Geisha world called "Women of the Pleasure quarters" I did pick up a romance novel called "Beast" hehe! oh my.... ::)  Right now I'm reading "Tales of Genji"  It was said this book was the very frist novel, it a romance story about a japanese prince in the Heian era of Japan.  Also I'm working on a few of my own stories as well. ;D
I read Memoirs of a Geisha years ago and really liked it, the movie was nice too!

Besides philosophy, I like to read historical novels, fantasy and scifi books. I enjoy reading Tolkien, Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time series), Mika Waltari (author of Dark Angel, my favorite book) and Stephen King (especially Dark Tower series). I've also read all Star Wars novels.  

Right now I'm reading Susan Neiman's Evil in Modern Thought. It's a philosophy book but as I'm not working on the subject right now, I consider it as entertainment.

Yeah! I love Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! I got to see Sherlock Holmes' flat when I was in London. Fun stuff. :D
I love to read, but homework kind of takes over my free time spent reading. Once I'm done with school, I plan on doing it much more.
I like Louis L'Amore (sp?), Jane Austin, Mark Twain, C.S. Lewis, Charles Dickens, and other classic writers. I haven't read Tolkien on my own yet, but plan on doing so soon.

I'm so happy to know such lovely people who love to read, too!  I'm spending lots of time with The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies by Dr. Vasant Lad.  It is the best ayurvedic book I've come across!  I'm also reading various yoga magazines and Yoga Nidra by Swami Satyananda Saraswati as well as The Quest for Peace, Love and a 24" Waist by Deborah Low.  I always have multiple books going on at any one time.
I really like books by Laurell K Hamilton, both series.  I also like the Stardoc novels by S.L. Viehl.  And the Harry Potter books.

I'm re-reading "Dance of Death" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

I used to adore reading, but being an English major had the unexpected effect of making me dislike most books except for Harry Potter, Preston-Child thrillers, and Japanese comics that have been translated into English. :-/

I just finished my book yesterday, I was reading Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk.  I was so sucked in by it, I think I started and finished it in a week, that's a record for me!  Like some others, I too was a die hard Stephen King reader, but I wanted to expand my horizons a little this time, and I'm glad I did!

I can't wait to go to the mall to get a new book!!!  ;D

I'm just starting "Chopping Spree" by Diane Mott Davidson (www.dianemottdavidson.com).  I like her series because not only are they murder mysteries but, since the main character is a caterer, there are some great recipes in the stories as well.   :)  

I'm very into "The Cat Who..." series by Lilian Jackson Braun. They are about a journalist who with the help of his cute and smart Siamese kitties solve mysteries. They're clean and fun. Each book is about a different topic and you learn interesting stuff. Very recommendable.

I've also read a few "Cat Who..." books, and I'd recommend them as well.

Last week I read The Neverending Story by Michael Ende (children's fantasy book).  This week I'm reading Bridge of Birds: The Novel of an Ancient China that Never Was by Barry Hughart (fantasy).

I can't remember if I mentioned in my journal or not, but Michael Ende and his father, Edgar Ende who is an artist, really fed off each other in way of creativity.  Here is a site for Edgar Ende's artwork:
