Does anyone remember a style that was a "messy" or "exploding" ponytail?  I never wore it but I rembember it being in vogue about 5-6 years ago...???
I also remember reading that a stylist said  it worked best on "dirty" hair.  What did it look like, how do you make it, and have any of you ever worn it? If someone could post a picture of it I'd be grateful!

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about.  Couldn't you make a ponytail and pin little sections to get sort of an explosion?

I have never heard of it, but "exploding" makes me think of hair that is teased.  Take sections of your hair and, while holding the end, run a comb backwards through it - from end toward scalp.  then gather it up into a ponytail.  Or, you can make the ponytail first then tease it.  

WARNING - Khrome will not be liable for any tangles, matting, knots, and general hair frustration resulting from this hair tip.  They will undoubtedly happen, and teasing is not generally good for your hair, so tease at your own risk! ;)

Oh, I know what you're talking about! :P

I used to wear this during volleyball season.  I would put my hair in a pony tail, but only pull my hair halfway through it (sort of like a pseudo-bun) and then I would pull some hairs out of it and leave it like that.

Then I would take some more hairs that fell out during the day and placed them back into the bun-like thing.

Panpeus, thanks, yes, what you described is the style I'm thinking of.  I used to see EVERYONE wearing it but never "noticed" it at the time!!!

Sakina and Khrome, thanks for the other exploding ponytail ideas!  I've sort of been in a hair depression lately and I'm searching for new inspirations for a style. Why I thought of the messy ponytail thing, I don't know...desperate, I guess.  ;)

You can take someone's eye out with those things!  lol  Also, don't stand next to any light sockets and electric fans.

Completely understandable!  I know what that was like.  I was in a slump too, when I was around shoulder/bsl.  

Pan's idea is a hair-friendly approach to exploding hair - I'd give that one a try.

Yes, I remember the exploding ponytale, oddly it's still somewhat in fashion here in San Antonio.  The only thing I didn't like about it was that when I tried to "undo" the ponytale I tore my hair.
