Title: Jury Duty
Post by ChiliPepper on Aug 27th, 2005 at 8:28pm
I have jury duty next week.  I don't mind, atleast it didn't fall during my vacation.  I was wondering if anyone had ideas of how I can amuse myself while sitting at the courthouse.  I bought the first book of Chronicles of Narnia just to refresh my memory b/f the movie comes out.

You could chant a mantra:

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasu Devaya
(Aum Nah-moe Bog-uh-vah-tay Vah-sue Day-vai-yah)

It is asking to be sustained through whatever situation you are in.  It is in Sanskrit, and is called the Great 12 Syllable Mantra.

Mantras can be repeated out loud or silently.  Make sure you don't chant it when driving or using a sharp utensil.  Mantras focus the mind, so don't divide your attention (for your safety!).

I didn't know they're making a movie of CoN.  Is it live action?  I have the vhs tape of the animated one.

When I spent 6 weeks on jury duty, I did tons of needlework (needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, crochet).  They are easy to carry with you, and you still feel productive.

Yes, it is live action.  Check out the trailer on-line, it looks so cool.  I can't wait

ohhhh, I may actually go to a movie of my own volition when Co N comes out  ;D ;D

I'm with BB about the needlework.  Other ideas would probably be viewed as too distracting and/or downright rude and get you a contempt of court charge -- like trying new hair styles and hairsticks (of course, they may confiscate hairsticks for security reasons too :o), doing a manicure, reading a book, posting to LL.   Yeah, stick to needlework, if it'll go through security.

I vote for CoN.  Maybe if you run out of those you can bring a Brother's Grimm anthology.  Then you'll be caught up on your books-to-movie reading.  :)

I have heard things are a little uptight at the San Antonio courthouse right now.  Appearently there are some Mexican drug lords on trial.  If I get picked I hope it is something like last time--civil trial over who was at fault for a car wreck after both parties had been drinking and decided to see just how fast a Porche would go.

ChiliPepper;
I hope your wish comes true.  I served 6 weeks on a murder trial of a drug dealer.   :-/  This is not something I would ever want to do again.

Good luck!

What a disruption of your life!!  The jury I sat on was only a week.
