Hi all, so glad to have found this site, cuz i would have never known about oils and vineger rinses and all the great things to care about hair!

My hair type is the usual thick black asian hair and its about 6 inches or so below my shoulders. My normal routine is shampoo+thick conditioner everyday. Dispite the continued use of conditioner/masks everyday for the last 5 years my hair is coarse and frizzy. ( plus i straighten and style+blowdry my hair everyday since 3 years ago)

And I'm having a little problem with shedding/ hair loss. I mean when i shower, literally chunks of hair fall out ( from the root) and also when i comb. could it possibly from the product buildup or something worse??  ???

Glad you are finding useful information here.  Hope we can continue to help you with your hair growing goals.

Asian type hair does seem to handle -cones better than other types of hair (or at least that is what I have heard).  None the less, any product build up on the hair or scalp can cause problems.  The heavy shedding you are experiencing could be due to "gunk" on the scalp.  (That's a highly technical term referring to the layer of soft residue and dead skin that could be on your scalp.)  You might want to try a good clarifying shampoo and be sure to work it on the scalp to try to remove the gunk.  There are also exfoliants that you could try, such as using a brown sugar mixture on the scalp.

Using hot appliances on your hair (blow dryer and straightner) will damage the hair and cause it to be stiff and frizzy.  Try to reduce using these appliances (or stop all together!), and try to use them on the lowest of possible settings.  A bit of oil, such as jojoba or olive oil might help with the frizzies and condifion of the ends of your hair.

"gunk" and lack of circulation can indeed affect hair loss.  Of course there is also the genetic predisposition of hair follicles reacting to DHT - that's where drugs like minoxidil, propecia, finisteride come in.  In the natural arena saw palmetto and Foti root are DHT inhibitors.

A lot depends on how far you want to go in terms of products for how much result...best of luck ...gabi

Hang around a while, try some new things (and donate your heat appliances to charity  ;) ), and you'll be surprised how much the condition of your hair can improve in a very short time.  :)

Welcome Bob!  I no longer blow dry my hair because I heard that using a blow dryer close to the scalp on a very hot setting can cause shedding.
When I do blow dry, I use it on the lowest setting and keep it away from my scalp.
