Title: cones, or no cones??! Post by Beesan16 on Aug 24th, 2005 at 11:17pm
:( :( i don't know what my hair likes anymore :-/
i went off -cones for one week, at first my hair seemed ok, but then on like the 3rd day every time unbraid my hair the ends don't look too good, but the frizz on top of my head is less...all in all it was ok, i put oil on the ends and i was happy :D :D but then my hair went OUT OF CONTROL, i tried a little bit of my -cone shampoo and the frizz is back :'( :-/ should i have been more patint and waited another week, or should i use -cone shampoo, and no -cone conditioner? ??? ??? please help, and thanks to all in advance |

I do think it takes a while for you and your hair to adjust to no-cones. It is important to make sure you have removed any -cone buildup with either a clarifying shampoo or a vinegar rinse. Using a bit of oil on the ends to help keep them soft.
Try to stick with the routine for 3 weeks and see how it works for you. |

Okay, I am definetly not an expert at this hair care stuff :) but I know what you are going through. Sometimes my hair looks great one day, and then for a like a week after it is so awful and out of control.
Which no-cone products were you using? Maybe the products were ineffective? (Some I have tried have been really bad and left my hair a mess. While others are miracle workers!) Basically, I would try to stay off the cones for a little longer. Give it a longer chance. About the dry ends, my ends were really gross the other day too from a vinegar rinse. I used a protein treatment (with a heat cap) and now my ends feel 100x better. So maybe your ends just need deep conditioning? ~Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck :)! |

yea, i guess i should have waited longer, i'm going to do an ACV rinse in the morning, and start all over :-/ :)
in answer to your question Bardot, i used suave, milk and honey. can anybody recommend a no -cone shampoo? my hair is wavy, dry, and coarse. |

Hmm, there's Nature's Gate and Aubrey Organics. There must be others, but I can't think of them at the moment. Oh, Alba makes coneless shampoo. I think my hair leans towards the oily side so Alba's Very Emollient Replenishing shampoo didn't do anything for me, but it might work for you. Right now I can't think of anything that would be at regualr stores. I used to use NG's jojoba shampoo and liked that one, except I got some scalp pimples the first few times I used it. :P

I have done cones in the past but always for short periods of time and with clarifying.
I do agree that it takes some time to make the switch...g |

I use Healthy Sexy Hair by Ecoly. There's no cones in that one, too. Though the leave-in treatment has them.

I agree with using Nature's Gate. I love their shampoos and conditioners :)!
But if you cant get to a health food store and need something cheap and easily found, maybe you might want to check out Johnson a& Johnson's baby shampoos. When I looked them up they didn't seem to have any cones in them but I am not sure what the other ingredients are. I also have never tried them myself but I read reviews on makeupalley.com and people seem to like them. Maybe others here have tried them too and give you more input ;). If you go to drugstore.com you can see what kinds they have and the ingredients and stuff http://www.drugstore.com/templates/browse/default.asp?catid=11936&cmbProdBrandFilter=17888&trx=BS-17888&trxp1=CP%2D1002&trxp2=0&trxp3=11936&brand=17888 |

Thanks a lot guys :)
i think i found the solution for my hair, and it is to ........cut it :( :( well not a lot just 5 inches or so :( :o and 2 inches off the layer that is up to at BSL. *sigh* i guess it's all for the best :D i wish i would have found this site 4 years ago but it's ok, my hair grows pretty fast, once i cut my hair at about BSL and 3 weeks later it was about mid back :) |

[glb]YIKES and EGADS![/glb]
Are you absolutely sure about that? Perhaps you need the recommended three week limit before you hack off 5 inches! |

Sometimes cutting is the best solution...... but you might want to do it in smaller doses, just to make sure.

Beesan, I agree with the girls.. try it in stages. About two months ago I *knew* it was time for a trim.. those ends were pretty scraggly, and I thought I was going to have to trim at least two inches. I ended up trimming more along the lines of an inch and 1/4 and it worked out great. The ends were so pretty that I could wear my hair down with confidence and I was pretty happy that I saved myself 3/4 of an inch... hehehe :D
