Hubby surprised me with tickets to the local RenFest today.  Here's a pic of the hairstyle he picked out for me :D

Da*n, BB, that is gorgeous!  It looks like a celtic design.

Have a great time at the RF!

Wow, I'm in awe...

Just to make sure everyone understands - I DID NOT DO THIS BRAID!  I wish!  :-/  A wonderful braider named Jay, did this for me.  What was amazing is he did it in 30 minutes.  It would have taken me hours and it would not have looked nearly as nice!

We had a great time at the RenFest - as we always do.

Those are fantastic!

I love having my hair braided by a professional.  I love how incredible the hair looks without ever feeling tight or pinched.  And they can stay looking good for half a week.

The curls you'll get when take it out will be incredible.   ;)

Looks beautiful, BB! If I ever get my hair braided like that- I probably won't take it out for 2 weeks cause I'll never ever be able to braid it like that myself.
I want to go to a ren faire!

That's so nice looking.  You should hire Jay as your personal assistant.

I think your hubby's a keeper.  He has great taste in hair and women and surprises.  Those braids are lovely.  I just got the "Braid Your Own Hair" booklet and DVD from Karen Ribble and watched her do her own 5 strand braid -- amazing finger work.

OOOO - I've considered her booklet and DVD - do you think it is worth the money?  I already am quite comfortable doing french and dutch braiding on myself.  I've attempted a 5 strand, but always get my fingers mixed up.  What other techniques are on the DVD?

Most of it is basic stuff - which I need - she does french classic, dutch classic, french basic, dutch basic, lace braid, crown braid, up-the-back, and 5 strand braids. She shows many of more complicated braids with both the dutch braiding technique and the french braiding technique (excepting the 5 strand, of course).

She does them "live" on the DVD so you get to see them being done and she explains the hand-holds very well.  I liked being able to see the "live" version, explains it better than pictures in a book, but now I think I can use the book for a reminder while trying them out.

I've been french braiding, but I think her hand-holds will work better than mine in the long run if I want to expand my repertoire.

Ohyeah - I heard about her when they did an interview with her on the Loom.  I was also considering getting her book.  So she shows how to braid on her own hair?  I pretty much know how to braid other people's hair - I just get mixed up on my own.  :P

I think this title is funny "Specialized in Braiding Caucasian Hair"  - I should offer to be her asian hair guinea pig so she can advertise asian hair too.  :)

Oooooh! Gorgeous braids! I've always thought that 5 strand braids are a bit massive, but yours are just perfect! How many car accidents did you cause walking around with such a gorgeous hair?  :D

Thanks Galadriel!  No car accidents - no motor vehicles allowed on the RenFest grounds.  ;D

It was fun, however, when I was waiting my turn, I was combing out my hair in preparation...... At least 10 people commented on the length of my hair (a thin classic length).  One lady complained, however, that she should be able to go before me, because she didn't think it was fair that she (with not quite shoulder length hair) should have to wait HOURS for them to braid my hair.  Jay, the braider (bless his soul), quiped back, "It will take me less than 30 minutes to do her hair because it is all one length.  YOUR hair, on the other hand will take longer than 30 minutes because of all the layers you have".  I was beaming when he made that statement.  :)  She was probably fortunate that she ended up with a different braider (there were 3 at this station), as I'm sure Jay would have yanked her hair, just to make a point.

LOL  I can't believe she made a stink about that!  The way I see it, whoever is in line first gets done first!  I'm glad Jay gave her what-for.  hehehehheh

I've only been to a couple of Ren faires, and have never seen a braider.  Or maybe I wasn't paying attention because I had short hair.  Next time, I'm seeking one out cuz it would be so nice to have professional braids done.  :D

I know a lot of the professional braiders travel from RenFest to RenFest.  The MN RenFest has at least 9 braiders working.  The wait can get up to several hours.

I hope you find a braider - it is a lot of fun!

Yes, we have professional braiders at the RF in Texas but unfortunately my hair has never been long enough for those wonderful styles when we went. :'(

As you're growing now, by next TRF, you'll have to give it a try.

Does anybody know if, when and where we have RFs in Germany?

I just did a Google search, but came up with this list of Ren Fests.  It does list some in Germany and other UK locations.  Of course, I have no idea what the content of these Faires are and if they would have the markets and entertainment that I've experienced here in MN, but you might be able to do a bit more research starting with this list.

Unfortunately my latest salon trip was a disaster.  The lady who did so well the first time took off a whole inch this time so I am right back where I started but I have been thinking about buying one of those ponytales at Sally' just to see what trully long hair is like.
