Title: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 17th, 2005 at 10:17am
I did a beer rinse last night. My hair is shiny, soft and the leftover curls from the perm (bad, bad, I know) came out nicely again. It doesn't smell like beer neither.
:) {Rinse hair with beer to add body and shine! The vitamin B and natural sugar add body and shine. Simple Beer Rinse Once a month use a can of flat beer after shampooing. Choose a beer that does not have a strong odor. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual. Pour the flat warm beer on your hair and work it through. Rinse with lukewarm, not hot, water. } |

I've heard of the beer rinse before. I've never tried it myself (can't stand the smell of beer).
I remember back when I was in Junior High, a girl was caught with a can of beer in her locker. She claimed it was so she could do a beer rinse of her hair after gym class. The school officials didn't believe her and suspended her from school for a week. I think the "problem" with her reasoning was the fact the beer was on ice in a cooler! ;D |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 17th, 2005 at 11:08am
;D ;D I'm still rolling around on the floor ;D ;D
That's a good one! Maybe she needed a "cool head" ;D Well, do you like wine? Maybe we should try to find out what wine can do for hair? ::) |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by greek_lady on Aug 17th, 2005 at 3:03pm
I'd love to try THAT one. It sounds really easy. ;D What's a "flat" beer? And when you say "can" you mean the small/normal size or the big one? I somehow think that 330ml of the normal can won't be enough??
|
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by khrome on Aug 17th, 2005 at 3:27pm
A "flat" beer is one that has been sitting open to the point where it doesn't have bubbles anymore. I'm not sure how long it would take for a beer to go flat. Maybe overnight?
LOL that's pretty funny BB. :D Cynde |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 17th, 2005 at 4:12pm
Creek_lady: Yes, it is very easy! I opened a bottle of beer and let it sit overnight. Maybe a fresh one would be interesting too....if it still bubbles on the head? ::) ::) ::) Free scalp massage with bubbly beer ::)

:) I just found the following on this website
http://www.hintsandthings.co.uk/bathroom/hairtips.htm Out of hair setting products, try:- • Use a solution of sugar and water on hair to create a sculptured look. Beware of wasps though!!!! • Beer - this gives body, especially is flat beer is applied to damp hair. • Champagne - gives definition • Tonic water or red wine - FOR DARK hair • White wine - FOR BLONDE hair. • To create curly styles, wind sections of hair around a scrunched up tissue and then knot the ends of the tissue together. When dry, unwind - hey presto! Or, alternatively, drink the alcohol an let your hair flop. ::) Might just say, let if flop - party time ;D |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by AtlantisAllure on Aug 17th, 2005 at 11:29pm
Heyyyy, waittt...I thought alcohol was drying! Uh, joking. lol I have some cans of nonalcoholic beer here, I wonder if that would work the same...

Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by NaturalRogue on Aug 17th, 2005 at 11:35pm
"Flat beer"??!! mmmm, now I really want my hair to look nice, but it sounds to me like a waste of beer. Ok, so I'd have to resist temptation while waiting for the beer to go flat. :D Needless to say beer should *never*, *ever* go flat. ;D
As for wine, I wish I was blonde, because red wine doesn't stand a chance to be put into my hair. Ok, ok, maybe MadDog 20-20, but no wine over 8 bucks and that has an honest to goodness cork! ;D |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by bikerbraid on Aug 17th, 2005 at 11:43pm
LOL! In my house, there would never be any red or white wine leftover to rinse my hair with. As for the MD 20/20 - I have a bottle left over from our 20th wedding anniversary that my in-laws gave us (we hope it was a joke!) I never thought about using it as a rinse. ;D
|
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by NaturalRogue on Aug 18th, 2005 at 12:05am
Well aside from (and I hope I don't offend anyone) "Purple Jesus" parties, I don't know what else MD-20/20 might be good for?! ???
|
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by bikerbraid on Aug 18th, 2005 at 12:27am
Our favorite use for MD 20/20 is as a gift. I think we've given the bottle away at least 20 times in the past 11 years.......for some reason we keep getting it back - as a gift! ;D

Moonchild--Thanks for sharing!
NR--What the heck is a "Purple Jesus" party? I don't get out too much so I've never heard of that before. |

Ok, so I'm off-topic again. Sorry, BB. I guess it's my nature. :D Juri, when I was in college (I attended a Catholic university), we had "Purple Jesus" parties. This amounted to a group of folks getting together. Everyone had to bring either grape juice (purple) or some wine (read an allusion to the wine served at Catholic masses) or a white alcohol. All these contributions would then be mixed in a large vessel, usually a clean garbage can (lined, of course). This was the "punch" for the party. Thus with the grape juice or wine, and the seminarians invited, we granted the punch and the party the name. And let me tell you...the next morning we were asking the Lord's forgiveness! ;) |

Well I ,too, attended a Christian Orthodox school (that's our official religion here). But let me tell you NR we NEVER ever had ANYthing resembling that! The closest thing was forthnightly communion :-/ Sheesh, some ppl have all the fun in life >:( ;D ;D |

About the beer giving body especially when applied to damp hair: does it have to be rinsed off? Do they mean you could put the beer in a mister and use it somehow to plump up your hair or activate curls/waves? :-/ Unless anybody warns me not too, I MIGHT just try it tomorrow. My brother left a bunch of cans in our fridge and nobody else around here drinks the stuff. Besides cooking with it, my hair may as well enjoy! ::) |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by juri on Aug 18th, 2005 at 5:50am wrote on Aug 18th, 2005 at 1:14am:
*LOL* Oh, that's funny! But I don't envy the hangovers you all must have had the next day. ^_^ Christiana--That's a good question. I wish I could help, but I've never tried a beer rinse before. |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by khrome on Aug 18th, 2005 at 6:32am
Heheh BB, the MD 20/20 sounds like the modern day fruitcake that keeps coming back!
Hmmm, there's half a bottle of chardonnay on the counter that we couldn't finish. A friend of ours made it, and there are little floaties we think might be wood from the barrels. We're scared to swallow them. :) I think I know what I'm rinsing my hair with tomorrow! Too bad it's not a red wine. Cynde |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 18th, 2005 at 7:11am
;D MD 20/20 lord have mercy! That was back in the days when it didn't matter what we would drink, as long as it made you dizzie in the head ;D and I had a lot of religion in me the next day - just thinking about it and my head starts hurting again ;D
CHRISTINA: Yes, rinse the beer back out with lots of water......I don't know about misting your hair with it. Give it a try :) Hubby will complain when I take his beer DUH But I will not waist my wine like that. ;D ;D |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by gabi on Aug 18th, 2005 at 7:28am
Oooooooo - this is hard reading for a person feeling wonky with a summer cold - then again, Purple Jesus Beer might be just the thing ...g

Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by greek_lady on Aug 18th, 2005 at 5:23pm
Ok. I did the beer rinse. Hair is still very wet. BUT I *think* I smell like an old drunkard :-/ :-/
Oh well, at least there's no SO to complain along with me, that's something ;D I'm anxious to see the results in the morning! |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by bikerbraid on Aug 18th, 2005 at 5:30pm wrote on Aug 18th, 2005 at 6:32am:
The "floaties" are probably from the cork. It isn't uncommon for the cork to break into little pieces and end up in the wine. If you pour the wine through a clean cotton cloth, it will catch all the particles and allow you to still drink the wine. However, if the wine has been open more than 2 days, I'd either cook with it or try a hair rinse. |

EVERYBODY HIDE!!! If Gabi starts drinking Purple Jesus Beer, who know what will happen. All our posts will be deleted, moved or modified beyond recognition! :o Seriously, I hope you are feeling better soon, Gabi. :-* |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 18th, 2005 at 6:46pm
greek_lady :) Don't worry. the smell will be gone in the morning
I think Gabi had to much Wick MediNite (grape flavor) ;D |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by khrome on Aug 18th, 2005 at 9:08pm wrote on Aug 18th, 2005 at 5:30pm:
Do cork floaties float or do they sink to the bottom? These ones fly around a lot, but if left alone will sink to the bottom. It's been out since last night, so I'm gong to try the rinse :D But at least now I know what to do about floaties the next time it happens. Cynde |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by bikerbraid on Aug 18th, 2005 at 10:03pm
Cork will usually float on the top, but I have seen some sink. The particles could be wood chips or other additives that were used during the fermentation process that have become saturated and will sink.

Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by gabi on Aug 19th, 2005 at 7:34pm
B U R P
I predict I will feel much better later *EVILLE ;D* . Bathing in beer - the next thing *YAY*... Ummm, semi-seriously - I would think it would be rather nice on the scalp too ...g |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by NaturalRogue on Aug 19th, 2005 at 9:19pm wrote on Aug 18th, 2005 at 10:03pm:
I agree with BB, if the "floaties" are in suspension, then they are bits of cork. If the wine has rested in the bottle, in the same position for say 10 to 15 minutes and these "floaties" sink, this is stuff left over from the fermentation process. Perfectly acceptable to drink; however, these will alter the taste in your mouth. This is why some, normally expensive vintages, will be corked and decanted. The process allows the wine to breathe and remove any sediment that has acquired. |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by khrome on Aug 19th, 2005 at 11:36pm
Aaah that's good to know (that the floaties are fairly safe.) Though I don't know why I'd feel better about eating cork that wood chips - probably because wood chips make me think of splinters in my stomach.. ACK
After my workout last night, I took a shower and completely forgot about the wine! So it's still sitting there, definitely not drinkable now. It will be used tomorrow for hair washing. :) Cynde |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Valerie on Aug 20th, 2005 at 1:58pm
I did the beer rinse once, and the smell was too much for me to try ever again.
Beer works wonders for my yard though. Last memorial day weekend I was mixing up my homemade revive but didn't have any beer in the house. I ended up going to kmart at 8am for a 24oz can of budweiser. I felt like such a lush! Luckily the little old man behind me backed me up, in that beer really can be good for the yard. ;) |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Christiana on Aug 23rd, 2005 at 5:19am
I made a "Beer Spray" for my hair! I used "Miller" beer from a can, and put some into a small mister. I misted my dry hair (mainly the ends) before curling at night to set it, and it worked great. The smell dissipates quickly and you don't have any beer smell on your hair at all when it dries, BELIEVE IT OR NOT. I also tried it on my roots, and it added volume to my hair.
IF you can stand a few minutes of the smell, this is a natural setting spray and voluminzer. |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by Moonchild on Aug 24th, 2005 at 5:49pm
:o This is so cool, Christina! Wonder what "Miller" would think about that!
Glad to hear it worked for you! :) I'll try your "beerspray" soon. Valerie what are you doing with beer in the yard? I've never heard anything like that before? My Mom used to put little bowls in the yard with beer in it - her snail traps. |

Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by ChiliPepper on Aug 25th, 2005 at 4:39am
For those of ya'll who lived through the 70s there used to be beer shampoo. I did run across a Champagne rinse yesterday. So if vinegar is wine gone too far wouldn't a wine rinse and vinegar rinse essentially do the same thing?
|
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by bikerbraid on Aug 25th, 2005 at 10:16am wrote on Aug 25th, 2005 at 4:39am:
That would be might thought as well. I'll try to find out what the pH is of vinegar vs wines, since that is what makes the vinegar work so well at clarifying. |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by ChiliPepper on Aug 25th, 2005 at 2:31pm wrote on Aug 25th, 2005 at 10:16am:
Wine averages in pH from 2.9 to 4.2 depending on the type of wine, my white vinegar that I use for my rinse is 5. I used make wine b/f kids when I had some free time. |
Title: Re: Beer Rinse Post by fiore_emily on Sep 26th, 2005 at 8:37pm
Haha, I'm just imagining the difficulty I would have if I ever tried to explain to my parents why the new bottle is half empty.
Mom and Dad - Emily did you drink all that beer? me - no I used it on my hair M/D - did it drip down your head into your mouth? me - err, noooo. M/D - see that, she's sluring! but we're Italian so the problem wouldn't be that I drank it but that there is less alcohol left! |

So sorry I missed this Moonchild. I mix the beer with soda, dishwashing liquid, amonia and mouth wash and put it in a 10 gallon sprayer with the yard then hand water. It is a home made revive basically. Works pretty well when applied every couple weeks, and since we've had several years of water restrictions, much needed. |
