Title: Alba Product(s)
Post by Bardot on Aug 15th, 2005 at 8:52pm
Hey everyone  :),

The name of the product I am reviewing is Smooth & Straight Style Gel by Alba.  The bottle also states that the product is alcohol free and has a net wt of 5 oz.

To begin with, this is a light hold gel.  The gel itself, is very runny (but I like that because it is easier to distribute).  When I used it, I applied it to damp hair and let my hair air dry.  I then applied it once more when fully dry to aid with the few frizzies I had left over after sleeping. Overall, I really liked how this product performed.  It did not leave my hair stiff or crunchy whatsoever  (I personally can't stand it when my hair doesn't feel soft or when I cannot get my fingers through it :)).

On the downside however :(, I did not like using this product as a straightening gel.  I used it by applying it to my hair and blow drying with the cool-setting.  The problem is that the product dried before I had the chance to get my hair in the straight position.

Bottom-line: Awesome when used on hair before air-drying or on dry hair, bad when used with a hair dryer.

***Has anyone tried the leave-in conditioner by Alba? I am dying to try it, but I would like to know if it is easy to style your hair after you apply it. Also, if anyone has tried any other products by Alba and liked/disliked them, please post ;D!

Ingredients: Certified organic herbal infusion of ginkgo biloba, meadowsweet (spiraea ulmana), nettle (urtica dioica) and certified organic aloe barbadensis, vegetable glycerin, hydroxyethylcellulose, polysorbate 20, shea butter (butyrospermum parkii), panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), biotin and niacin (Vitamin B complex, phenoxyethanol, methyl/proplparaben, citric acid, grapefruit extract (citrus grandis) and botanical fragrance.

Thanks for the review!  I don't use any styling products, but if I ever need to I will check this out.  I saw it at the health food store last weekend, so at least I know where to find it.

Thank you for another great review, Bardot!

I've tried the leave-in conditioner. It was the wrong one for my hair type so it didn't do too much for me (turned out to be for fine hair). For people with coarse and/or color-treated hair, it might be good to look for another leave-in...or one made for coarse hair. Since the product was very light, I don't think styling would be very difficult. However, I only used it at night so I'm just guessing.

I just tried the Replenishing Shampoo for normal to dry hair last night. I'm not too sure how useful this review will be because I dilute my shampoo and that might affect the way it works. Anyway, it left my hair clean, but not stripped, and the shampoo smells woderful. It's a bit too soon to say whether or not I really like this shampoo. I need to try it a couple of more times before I make that decision.

A few months ago I picked up some Alba shampoo and conditioner in the organic section where I grocery shop.  I tried it twice, actually.  the first time I chose the hydrating gardenia set, and the second time nourishing honeydew.  I liked them both very much, they are very gentle and nurturing for your hair.  I think the only reason I didn't keep buying their products was because of price.
