Title: Hairtoy shopping survey Post by Galadriel on Aug 1st, 2005 at 5:49pm
Here are Augusts' questions.
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? My answers: 1. From internet stores, eg. LL, Maiden's Treasures, Headgames 2. Monthly if not weekly. *blushing* 3. Not lately, but some of cheap hairtoys I used to buy before starting to shop in internet weren't so nice. 4. Quality, functionality, and of course, gorgeous looks! I like especially hairtoys that look a bit unusual- though almost all quality toys manage to look unusual compared to local selections. ;D 5. Yes, and it feels nice! 6. Yes. If an online store has very bad reputation, I don't even try buying. If I received bad service, I wouldn't return- but luckily that hasn't happened yet. 7. It's growing, but I have made a couple of cleanups. Most of my old cheap hairtoys have gone to charity. If I wanted to part with a quality toy, I would sell or swap it. 8. I've bought a few hairtoys last month ::) ...but I think that my Ficcare Maximas hairclip is newest. And I love it! :D |

Yay, another fun survey! ^_^
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? Internet "window shopping": LL, Maiden's Treasures, Artist Tree Woods, Barrett Barron, Treasures from the Tree Actual purchases: Treasures from the Tree, a lady at a local craft fair 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? Not that often recently. Unemployed college grad is *trying* to save money. 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? YES! Unless it has curvy prongs, it's not going to stay in my hair. I have a bunch of hairtoys from Claire's and local stores that are sitting in the closet because they don't work for my hair type. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? The quality and I have to be sure it's going to stay in my hair/hold it up. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? I'm trying not to be, but my inner hairtoy addict is always struggling to come out. It wouldn't be so bad if I were gainfully employed--or an heiress--but as it is, I feel guilty at the thought of spending $40 on nice hairsticks. 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? Shipping and customer service are very important! 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. I guess it's growing. I'm not sure who would want slightly used hairtoys. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? I bought a koa and African blackwood hairfork at a craft fair last month. I was mentally kicking myself for spending $32 on it, but it was too nice not to buy. |

Yesssss!!!! Galadriel comes up with the BEST surveys.
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? Mamacat Wood Creations commissions :) 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? I don't seem to need any more. Three pairs of corkscrews, one curtain rod stick, and velvet scrunchies and I'm good. 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Yes, and sold/traded/gave away all of it: Evita Peroni "Maximus" knockoff, Ficcare Maximus, Ficcare Innovation, Ficcare Haute Couture, Argus Designs Hairchitecture, 5 giant claw clips, little hair ties that my hair likes to eat. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Whether it holds my hair up comfortably ALL DAY. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? Nope! For some reason I've found my happy place among my corkscrews and scrunchies. No need for other stuff because they'll just sit there and look pretty. Actually that's not entirely accurate.... I am itching to commission a fork from Blondiesturn, without knowing if it'll stay in my do. 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? Definitely - Shipping costs and "personal" customer service. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. It's shrinking. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? A massive BUTTLOAD of velvet scrunchies from LisaJaney. |

Oh goody, I like reading everyone's posts. Here are my answers
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? Online for the nice stuff, the pharmacy or supermarket for the necessities (bobby pins, scrunchies. Not so necessary anymore, now that I know how to use sticks) 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? I only recently started buying hairtoys, so I've been averaging 1 every 2 weeks. 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Yes - plain old bobby pins. They always get stretched apart and become useless after I wear them only a few times 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Is it safe for my hair; will it match my clothes; will it hold my hair for most of the day 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? It's feels good because it let's me be creative with my hair. It's bad for my wallet though. ;) 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? I haven't really considered that one, but I suppose if something had really unreasonable shipping I'd think twice about getting it. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. It's just growing - haven't had the need to swap anything yet 8. What is your newest hairtoy? LongLocks Strawberry Tea hair sticks |

1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys?
-At the moment I've been shopping around at Claires and sometimes wal mart. 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? -Every now and then, usually I buy because I see something pretty, rather than useful. 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? -Yes, I've gotten a couple of headbands that turned out to be uncomfortable, some clips that snagged and some other odds and ends that didn't work out for the better. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? -It has to be hairsafe. I love my hair. It has to be easy. I'm bad at styling. It has to look nice. Looking nice is good. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? -I don't consider myself an addict, yet. Once I get more money to spend on hair toys this may change. 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? -Yes, when ordering from anywhere online I like to know that the price will be decent and that the people I'm buying from are reliable. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. -My collection grows and grows. I have a bag hanging in my closet full of scrunchis, clips, and headbands. I have a box of hairsticks and more delicate hair toys. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? -My newest hairtoy is a new pair of hairsticks I picked up from the mall. I haven't tried the curved looking hairsticks yet, but I'm curious to do so. I think they'd hold better. |

Title: Re: Hairtoy shopping survey Post by panpeus on Aug 2nd, 2005 at 5:42pm
Where do I shop for new hairtoys? I usually wait for the Renaissance Faire. I bought some LL's, too. I usually wear cloth-covered hair ties.
How often do I buy new hairtoys? Twice a year. Have I bought anything I was disappointed with? A cute butterfly clip that pulled a bit of hair out when I took it out. What is important to selecting a new hairtoy? It won't pull out any hairs. Color is important, too. I love blue, green, and pink. Am I a hairtoy addict? Nope, can't say I am. Maybe it is because I don't have the money to become one! :p Do other things count when I consider a hairtoy? I like to buy from those who have a passion for creating hairpieces. The little lady at the Ren faire is so sweet, I would hate to see her go out of business. Is my collection growing? Yeah, but very slowly. When I get back to school, I think I'm going to make a hairstick out of basswood. What is my favorite hairtoy? Skye Bloo LongLocks Majesticks |
Title: Re: Hairtoy shopping survey Post by 13bodies on Aug 2nd, 2005 at 9:29pm
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? I've tried shopping in RL, but there's nothing there that can compare with what's online.
2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? Probably averages out to weekly; I'll be good a few weeks then splurge. It's fun! 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Oh my, yes; plastic hairsticks, most claw clips (they're too small), bobby pins (never worked for me, ever), most headbands (slip right off), Scunchi Bar-rettes (EVIL!!! EVIL hairtoy!! They tangled in my hair and caused much damage. Boo!!! >:(), and most of the gimmicky hairtoys that are supposed to make a perfect bun, french twist, etc that I can't resist but all seem to be more complicated than just doing things the old-fashioned way. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Must be sturdy, big enough for my hair, and absolutely gorgeous. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? "My name is 13bodies and I'm a hairtoy addict." Hmm. Isn't admitting the problem the first step to conquering it? Doesn't seem to be working for me. Of course, I don't feel the least bit bad about it, so that's probably a factor. ;D 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? Absolutely. I won't do business with rude people; I also don't like to deal with those who only take Paypal (EVIL! Evil Paypal. ;D) because then it's more difficult to get my toy, but I will deal if the toy is worth it. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. Overall it's growing, but I do swap some of them; I need to do a thorough cleaning, however, and prune away the deadwood. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? My Mammoth Ivory hairstick from Blondiesturn! I wore it to the dentist and he thinks it's a mammoth's tooth, not tusk. He's the tooth expert, I believe him. Besides, the only thing I know about mammoths is that they're furry extinct elephants that sound like Ray Romano. |

1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys?
Online, mostly, however, I tend to browse the supermarket hair care aisle as well. 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? Perhaps once or twice a month, but then, this is a new addiction for me. 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Oh, tons of stuff until I found the Hair Delphi Oracle at Longlocks. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Is it hair friendly and would I use it regularly. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? Last month I would've said yes. This month, I don't know. Only bought a few hair toys in July. A couple in June. So it's cyclical. How did it make me feel? I always likes presents, even if I buy them for meself. 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? I must say, no not really. Generally, when I find something I want, I want it. Granted, customer service does come into play, such as with Ric the comb maker. After exchanging emails with him, I actually purchased a comb that was cheaper than what I would've bought left to my own devices. That's customer service. He explained what he thought would work best, and, boy, was he right. I love my wood comb. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. The collection is in a holding pattern. The items I did not use, I dumped. I wish I would've thought to give them to charity. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? My newest hair toys are my Rachael Stephen's combs. |

1.Almost exclusively on the internet, there are only a few shops here in Germany where you can buy hair-friendly hairtoys. 2.Hm,maybe once a month or so. 3.Yes,surprisingly it was a Ficcare hairclip, didn't work for my hair at all. 4.That the surface is smooth,no sharp edges etc.And I generally don't like anything made of plastic. 5.In a way,Yes. :) But it feels good. 6.Shipping cost not so much actually(Unless it's outrageous),but good(friendly)customer service is very important to me. 7.It's just growing,I normally don't give away any hairtoys. But then I don't have any long-haired friends/relatives anyway :) 8.The Cosmic Chic HoloStix from LongLocks. |

Ohhh, I LOVE THESE!!! ;D ;D
1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys? Everywhere! I window shop on the internet, but I always have my eyes peeled when I go out. 2 How often do you buy new hairtoys? More often than I should.... :-[ 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Yep! It's all trial and error, as I see it. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Will I wear this often and is it an easy hair toy to use? 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? I am an addict! And it is so very nice. 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? Quality is definitely a factor, but shipping costs tend to put me off, especially if I spending a lot of money for something... to add another 10-20 dollars on top of the price I'm paying for the product? But.. I try and deal with that by trying to find things here in town. But.. well.. long locks hairsticks... *sighs* I'll pay anything here... *giggles* 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. Some things I give away, especially if I never use them.. but I don't really have anyone to "swap" with. 8. What is your newest hairtoy? I bought this gorgeous (decorative) rhinestone hairstick from the local jewelry boutique. |

1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys?
Longlocks (of course!), and just about anywhere. I even bought a pair of silver chopsticks from a Chinese restaurant that I wear fairly often. 2 How often do you buy new hairtoys? Oh geez. Is Susan going to tattle? Probably once a week. Sometimes more. :) 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Sure have. Bought a really pretty handmade copper hair fork once, but the ends aren't blunt enough and my hair gets caught between the tines at the top. Oh well, it looks nice sitting on my dresser. 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? Do I like it, will it stay in my slippery hair, is it safe for my hair. 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? My name is divewench and I'm a hairtoy addict. But wait, 12-step programs are for people who want to quit. I'm a happy addict. ;D 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? Not usually. Quality of service is definitely a factor in second and third (and fourth, and fifth...) purchases. Probably if the shipping costs were really out of line I'd hesitate. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. Just growing. Taking over really. I'll probably need to prune fairly soon, since the Mei Fas are getting pushed out by the Longlocks. Of course, given how frequently I manage to break the Mei Fas, that might not be a problem. ;) 8. What is your newest hairtoy? Longlocks Swirling Sea Foilstixs. Magnificent! |

1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys?
the store where I work (I get 10% discount, and as its a health and beauty store I get all my makeup and hair products there). The store next door (pirce attack) it seels salon ranges, but has big hairties that have no join (my hair sells normal sized one, but this store sells scrunchie sized ones and tinny little ones) but all my bobby pins, clips, and stuff come from my store usually. everything except hairsticks. Those I have brought some cheap ones from cosmetics pluss, so there as well. Oh, and this lady sells hairtoys at the markets at uni. she has wooden hairsticks for $4:50, they are really short with jems on the end, and though they are pretty I think they are too short for me. 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? um... sometimes several times a week... I go on splurges, none for weeks, then all of a sudden... 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? Yes, I brought some cheap plastic Ibis clips. I can't figure out how to do with them, they do't hold all of my hair (which isn't thick!) as they pop out right away. what do I do with an ibis clip? 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? PRETTY. not going to rip my hair out, I can actually use it and use it well. that it will hold my hair all day 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? yes and it feels GOOOOOOOOOD 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? the people I shop with have great service, and in my store everyone knows me, its great. the girls in the shop next door are really friendly. I haven't had bad service anywhere, so, yeah. I don't buy on net, but shipping cost would be a factor if I did 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. growing. My shoebox is full, my jar is full, and they are spilling into my makeup box now 8. What is your newest hairtoy? ummm... I did buy some more hairties today. they are so cute! they are as round as the tip of my finger and so soft! they are pretty fabric ones, but tomorrow I am buying more hairsticks, either one pair or three (I had a pair of blue and a pair of purple hairsticks! painted in a snakeskin patter,. Unfortunatly I've broken one of each pair! (don't leave hairskicks where you walk, lol) and I also want some from another shop that are black. So I'll either get just the black, or all three |

1. Where do you like to shop for new hairtoys?
almost any store I walk into gets the hairtoys looked over 2. How often do you buy new hairtoys? not sure, rather infrequently as I'm not really a shopper 3. Have you bought anything you were disappointed with? yep, a fake-aire, some long clips, some headbands that don't hold my hair, and a hairigami that just frustrates me 4. What is important to you when selecting a new hairtoy? hair friendly, looks good, doesn't break the bank 5. Do you consider yourself a hairtoy addict? If yes, does it feel nice or bad? not really, although I am doing more and more window shopping since my hair is getting long enough for some of the nice toys 6. Do other things that the hairtoy itself (eg. quality of service, shipping costs) count when you are considering buying a hairtoy? I do consider shipping costs and quality of service if I'm buying online. 7. Is your hairtoy collection just growing, or do you give away/sell/swap your old hairtoys. It's growing, but I'm considering the need to start weeding out the things I don't use --make room for new ones ;) 8. What is your newest hairtoy? Last hairtoy splurge I got a couple pair of hairsticks( :)) and the hairigami( :P) |
