Anybody here reading/finished the new Harry Potter?  I actually got my hardcore sci-fi husband reading the series.

OH I'm such a bandwagon catcher upper, only almost done with the first book so far (starting from scratch, seeing that so many of my family members and relatives are Potterphiles -- especially the schoolage ones)

Golly! I'll try to avoid this thread for spoilers (heard that something bad is going to happen at the end of #6, or that someone was going to die) :::covers ears:: "lalalalalalalala I can't hear you lalalalalala"

I couldn't get into the series.  I've read the first book twice for good measure.   :) But if you liked that, I'd recommend the Chronicles of Narnia series, the Wrinkle in Time series, Neverending Story and Momo.

Eee Gads - I just recently finished the Lord of the Ring.  Harry will have to wait for awhile.  Now there is Charlie Chocolate to catch up on too *arrrgh* ...g

I was a little slow to read my HP books, I'm still on Goblet of Fire.  But I got my copy of the Half Blood Prince, now I have to finish Goblet and read Order of the Phoenix. Lot of reading!  8)  Hey and I am also a fan of The Wrinkle in time stories too! Read them years ago and was delighted that they made a TV movie of the frist book!  ::)

My all-time favorite - Chronicles of Narnia.  ;D  I've read them in the order they were written, I've read them in the chronological order of Narnian time, and I've read them out loud to each of the boys (3 boys=3 out-louds or more).  I could read them again, and again.  C. S. Lewis rocks 8) - except his space trilogy :P

I like Wrinkle in Time and 1 or 2 of the sequels but after that it began to get beyond my interest level.   :-/

Harry Potter is good for a once through for me, but I haven't read this new one yet. Of course the long hair is great -- Dumbledore, Hermione ;)

A lot of people I know are really into the Harry Potter books. I read the first one and half of the second one a while ago, but I just couldn't get into them. They're just not my cup of tea I suppose, but different tastes for everyone though right? I did see the first two movies though and for some reason I enjoyed those quite a bit.

As far as other books go I am a big fan of Mercedes Lackey series and books by (a new interest) Patricia Mckillip as well as some others.

i read all the books and i do, and i love them.... well until JK started killing all these characters, i still read them except i'm not as excited as i was before about them cuz she takes such a long time to write them.

i still heven't read #6 but i'm getting it from the library and its my tern in about 5 days.

i don't like the movies much, cuz they leave all the good parts out, espacialy after reading each book like 8 times it gets sort of annoying.
