I have read alot on the board about oiling hair and I have tried it with little success.  My hair is very fine and oiling it just makes it look dirty and stringy.  Silicone has the same effect on my hair.  Those anti-frizz and shine serums make my hair look flat and dirty.  Has anyone out there with fine hair found anything they like or do people with fine hair oil at all?  Right now I CO, is that enough?

If your hair is soft and manageable, then you must be doing the right thing!  If you hair tends to be oily, then adding oil should only be done to the very ends of your hair - avoid the hair from the neck up.

You could also use the oil as a pre-conditioner - put it on "heavy" the night before you wash in the morning.

Maybe it is the type of oil you are using? Coconut oil and olive oil tend be quite heavy. I think butters also might be a bit much for fine hair. Have you tried jojoba or sweet almond oil? I am with BB on oiling heavily at night or before you wash for a CWC type thing. Good luck. :)

You mentioned that your hair is currently quite short?  You may not even need to bother with oil at all for now.  If you do use it - what I find works pretty well for me is rubbing it on my hands like hand lotion, through the fingers and the top of the hands until it's a thin enough layer that I could use my hands without leaving stains.  Then rub that in, if you need more, second application ...g

I only oil the very ends at night.
The night before I wash, I oil the entire length.
My hair is highlighted with bleach all but about 2" of roots, so it just sucks up the oil.
Jojoba oil is what I use- it's much lighter than other oils.
My hair gets weighed down very easy, so its a tighrope walk trying to moisturize my chemically treated hair without weighing it down.
If I had "virgin" hair or shorter hair, I might not oil at all, maybe just the very ends.
That's what I do a lot now, just the last 2-3 inches, which are so fragile.

I have been using jojoba oil on my short hair, but only on the ends.  The parts below ear level.  And I plug the open bottle with my finger, tip it over and then back upright.  I am using a very, very small amount (less than a drop).  That seems to be enough for my fine, short hair.  
Although now that my hair is shoulder length I'm thinking I'll have to use a bit more -- maybe "two tips" of the bottle (I swear it's jojoba oil for my hair and not white lightenin' for my belly ;) )
I found jojoba oil at the health food store and at the Vitamin Shoppe -- got a 4 oz bottle at Vitamin Shoppe for the same price as a 1 oz bottle at the health food store.

How much oil do you use?

You only need a tiny amount of oil. One or two drops might be enough. Oil the length (from ears down) only.

If your hair looks dirty or greasy immediately after oiling, you are using too much oil. When done properly, the oil gives just a little shine, but isn't otherwise noticeable at all. I agree that if your hair is still short, you might not really need oiling at all at the moment.
