Well, I know many of you may not know me or remember me(I've been a member for a while but certain things keep me busy, and I've come back again) but I'm afraid I may have to take a break for an uncertain amount of time. Hurricane Dennis has been on the weather a lot lately, and we're right in it's path. Power will go out, we're sure, but not for how long. We roughed it through hurricane ivan last year and the city is still a mess from that. People still have tarps on their roof, debris trucks are still working daily, people are still in trailers waiting for new homes, and we're getting hit again.

We'll be staying here to wait out the storm, our house is pretty sturdy and has been here a long time. We've stocked up on bottled water, canned foods, candles, and things like that(getting it now would be impossible. Things like batteries, gas for cars, bottled water, and candles are litterally sold out everywhere around here, there's just none left).

I'm nervous, not really because of the storm itself, but the aftermath. I'm worried about my town and my friends and whether or not I'll be able to contact anyone after(especially relatives and the boyfriend, who happens to be up in Canada worrying).

To anyone else here that the hurricanes this season may reach to, you have my prayers for the safety of you and those around you. We'll all hold on and survive, just gotta be there for each other.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, it means a lot to me. If anyone wants fast updates and has text messaging on their cell or wants me to text their email right after the storm let me know. I have a list of people to try and get ahold of.

This is kind of late, but I hope you're okay!

Well, this is much faster than I thought, but I have an update with good news. The worst of this storm was very compact and small(unlike ivan last year), it ended up moving, just slight, but still enough to have us miss the worst of it and the eye. We saw rain and strong winds, but nothing terribly dangerous, and to our amazement, we didn't even lose power, though it did flicker every so often.

However, with it being so small, even though it missed us, other parts of the town took a beating, there was more damage downtown and many other people without power. The damage isn't as bad as everyone feared it would be, but the storm still left a mark. Very few places are open today, as so many don't have power or working generators. I know of one gas station that's open, and they were sold out of gas before the storm, so all they have is soda, candy, beer, chips and ice cream.
We came through pretty well, I was very(I can't possibly say how much) surprised we kept power.
I'm happy to report this change for the better, and so far to my knowledge I haven't heard of any local deaths from this either.
