Title: "Real" frozen yoghurt! Post by Cairn on Jul 7th, 2005 at 8:53pm
This is something I learned in Germany; I thought it was such a cool idea and seemed like something you all would enjoy, so I decided to share it...
For a cheap cold treat, take a single-serve yoghurt and stick a popsicle stick in through the foil cover (if it's got a plastic lid as well, take that off first). Stick it in the freezer for a few hours so it can get hard (I waited about 5 hrs), then pull it out of the container for a frozen yoghurt popsicle! You'll probaby have to run the container under hot water to get it to loosen up, and the smaller yoghurts are probably better; we've only got big ones in the house right now, and it's a bit top-heavy and hard to eat all at once. It's a really fun treat; cheaper (and probably healthier) and much more fun than going out for ice cream or frozen yoghurt! :) |

we used to just stick the yoghurt in the freezer and then eat it with a spoon once frozen. This is a great idea too!

Mmm that sounds good. And healthy too! A lot better than the Mc Donald's hot fudge sundaes I've been eating way too much of as of late...

Love the idea. I must try this out sometime. It'd probably be a nice breakfast snack when it's hot out.

Fun idea!
Do you think that would work for other things like applesause or jello? I'm not a big fan of yogurt. Meg |

Definitely applesauce! Or applesauce works nicely if you don't let it completely freeze. You can freeze it partially in a ziploc, squish the ziploc, and eat it like a thick slush.

Ohhh, sounds good. Didn't think of slush. Heathly and yummy to boot. We'll beat the fast-food world yet. ;)

Since we are on the topic of yogurt and other frozen goodies, everyone should try gelato! :) It has the consistency of ice cream, but it has less fat and sugar in it.
Those frozen snicker bars sound really good as well! |

When biking all day, a frozen Snicker bar is a great energy bar! For my most favorite frozen treat, I love Italian Ice (being lactose intolerant, yogert and ice cream are not on my favorite list).

Don't forget frozen peas and corn. My favorite snack as a kid.
Why is it everything tastes better frozen? That apple-slush (hah! New phrase!) sounds yummy too. |

Cranberry slush is yummy and very similar to Italian Ice. You mix cranberry jello, cranberry juice, and frozen lemonade with a bit of water then put in the freezer. (a bit of vodka can make it interesting as well!). Scoop it into a glass with some 7up or Sprite and it makes a great slushie!
(If anyone need the specific recipe, let me know and I will dig it out - with or without the vodka! 8) ) |

FOUND IT!
Cranberry Slush 1 3oz pkg of cherry or cranberry Jello 1 12oz can frozen lemonade - thawed 1 12oz can frozen orange juice - thawed 2 cups Cranberry Juice like Ocean Spray 2 cups vodka 7up/Sprite to be mixed with frozen slush Dissolve jello in 2 cups boiling water. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Pour into 4 or 5 qt plastic pail, cover and put in freezer. Spoon slush into glasses and fill with 7 up. I have also made this without the vodka - by increasing the Cranberry Juice from 2 to 3 cups. This is a great summer cooler, or Christmas holiday drink. Just watch out - the vodka sneaks up on you! ;D |
