Hairbraiding such as Alicia Keys has done, is not something you perfect overnight. Her braids start out as cornrow type braids. Here's a link for instructions on how to do cornrow braiding.
Good luck! |

Looking at that website reminds me of my highschool days. Every morning I would have my hair braided in homeroom. These girls were remarkable fast at it! My hair was about BSL at the time. They would use pieces of tin foil to hold the ends. I was there practice head so to speak. I enjoyed it! By the end of the day the braids would work themselves loose giving me a nice wave. 8)

Practice, practice, pratice! 8) Also try not to make the braids too tight as this can weaken and damage the hair.
Have fun! ;) |

Sorry I haven't replied for long, my dog has been battling a paralysis tick.
If you were wondering, he's much better now. Anyway, my mum and me are getting better with the practise. We have done lots of plaits going straight back from the front of my head to the back. They look really good and I'm so proud, they're just a bit sticky-outy, and so it's taking a while to perfect. Oh and, when you do them right and you've got them in the braids and you want to keep them in permanent or for a while, how do you wash them? I don't think my hair would last very long if I kept them in, cos they wouldn't wash and they'd get tangled woudn't they? Do you have to keep re-doing them!!!? I hope not, because if you do, we can forget it!!! Also, I hate wavy-curly hair because it always gets tangled and my mum doesn't like the look of it either, neither does my dad!!! (I don't know about my 13 year old brother, I don't think he cares, he's got pretty big hair himself!) So when I take the braids out will it be all curly and how do I get the waves out? Will they just fade away when I wash it, because I've had it in two plaits often and that's usually the way. Well I hope you can help, thankyou, sofezz ;D :D |

Sorry to hear about your dog - I hope he gets better soon. :-/
If you have braided your hair close to the scalp in tight little braids, you can wash your scalp with them in. The results depend on the type of hair you have and how the braids were put in. The idea of shampooing your head is to remove the oils and dirt that accummulate on the scalp. To remove them with the braids in, my experience has been to use some diluted shampoo ( a dollup of shampoo in in a bottle with water), and pour that over the scalp, trying to keep the braid ends out of the way. Very gently massage the scalp between the braids. Rinse with a vinegar and water rinse, then with clear water. The rinsing is best done by pouring the water over your head, not using a faucet or shower. The less you touch or move the hair, the neater the braids will stay. If you don't have a realy oily scalp, you could try just a vinegar water rinse to freshen up the head. (Followed with clear water). If you don't like the waves in your hair after it has been braided, try misting your hair with water, then running your hands down your hair. This will help to remove the waves (which most of us love!). The waves will definately come out when you wash your hair. |

Thankyou!!! My dog says thanks too, and he wags his tail and rolls his eyes. :-*
Well, that's good you don't have to re-do them, which was pretty stupid of me to think that anyway since it would be such a pain in the bum. I just don't like the waves because they get tangled, but I love the look of your waves in your picture, BB. That picture looks so much like me, except I'm shorter. And don't worry about my dog, I didn't type that up for the sympathy vote!!!! He's such a fighter I love him so much. (We're supposed to be talking about hair here, aren't we? Sorry.) Bye now. :D I love these little faces!! |

Thank you ;D
I've found I can handle the waves better if I apply a tiny bit of oil to the lower portions of my hair. The oil helps control the fly-aways that would then tangle. Trying to minimize combing/brushing also helps. |
