Title: My first Chinese bun? Post by Sakina on May 25th, 2005 at 3:59pm
I think my hair is long enough for a baby Chinese bun. This style was completely new to me when I joined the boards, but I fell in love with it and have been anxiously awaiting the day I can wear it nicely. I'm not totally sure if I did it right. For those of you who wear this bun, please advise. Do you use a regular size stick or Rapunzel? The stick I have in the photo is Shanghi Rapunzelstick. I'm afraid that if the stick isn't long enough for all of my hair (it isn't as thick as I just have a lot of hair) the hair will slip off the stick and ruin the style. Is this just because my hair isn't long enough to wrap around more than once?? I know it isn't that great yet, so pointers now will make it great when my hair is longer.
Thanks! http://tinypic.com/5d6iq1 BTW, Galadriel-I used your resizing technique. THANKS! I did crop the photo first, didn't think anyone wants to see the doors to my laundry room... |

Yea!!!!! Great picture! Great bun! Great laundry doors! (Oh, you didn't want us to see those??)
Personally, I have to use a longer stick for the chinese bun. If I didn't, my hair would engulf the stick and I'd end up with hair all over the place (and tied in knots!). Isn't it great when you can get a new style to work? Congratulations! |

Ooh, very nice! How long did it take to make that bun?

Thanks! It only took a few minutes more than it takes for me to do a regular bun, so maybe 7 minutes to make sure I had it all pinned down properly. I so love the look of this bun. I can hardly wait to try it with the stick in a vertical and horizontal position. Lots of options w/this style. *joy* ;D

Nice bun! :D
For my hair, a regular hairstick is enough (though I take care in wrapping the bun). I find the designs with three smaller crystals (Like this: http://www.longlocks.com/romanticinterlude.jpg ) in a row best: the extra length comes in handy when wrapping the hair, but in a finished bun, the hairstick doesn't look too long. I believe though, that soon I will have to order RapunzelStix for my Chinese buns... This is also one style, where I really need a bun net to keep hair from slipping away. I hope this isn't a problem with really long hair, but with a slippery hair barely long enough for the style, it is a real necessity. |

A trick to try when you see the "blasted red X".....
Right mouse click on the Red X. This brings up a menu, click on "Show Picture". If this does not make the picture appear, then refresh your browser. It may then appear. No guarentees this will always work, but it frequently will bring the picture up. If this doesn't work, go back to the menu and click on "Properties". That will show the address of the picture. Highlight the address and copy it. Then in a separate browser window paste the address and hit enter. You should then be able to see the picture. |

Today I tried the Chinese bun again (we went for Dim Sum so Chinese food=Chinese hairstyle). ::)
So, this is how it turned out: http://tinypic.com/5ezuro Those are the Zircon Goddess ShadowSticks in my hair. I used Galadriel & 13bodies' suggestions on using smaller sticks. And thanks to hubby for taking the picture. It is so nice not to have to figure out how to take my pic in the mirror!! |

Excellent! What a unique way to use two sticks. Another creative use of hairsticks.
