Ever since I started using Nature's Gate chamomille s/c, about 3 weeks now, my hair is squeaky clean--literally.  It squeaks when I wash it in the shower.  I was always taught that the squeak simply means that the hair is just very clean.  But is hair really supposed to be squeaky clean?  Or does it mean that I'm stripping my hair of it's natural/good oils??   :-/

I love the squeaky clean feeling!!! :D If it doesn't get that clean then I don't feel I've really washed and want to wash again.
But probably I'm wrong, from what I've been reading around here.

i don't think it's a problem for the scalp area but i am returning to not cleaning the lengths at all with sopas or detergents, a quick acv rinse is really enough for me. i think removing all oils even takes away the body.

Squeeky clean usually means that all of the oils have been removed from the hair.  This might be fine for shorter hair or the hair close to the scalp where it will be quickly replenished, but longer hair needs the moisture of the oils.  This is why we so often say to only wash the scalp hair and just condition the length.

Okay, so basically since my hair is still fairly short I don't need to worry about the squeak--as long as I use conditioners, etc?  

yes, you'll notice yourself when you degrease too much "older" hair, you'll get that nice mummy look  ;) i see so often on people with hair passed their waiste ... such a shame!

I always thought the 'squeak' meant that the shampoo had been rinsed out  ;D of course I guess that also would mean so had all the natural oils. :-/

My hair felt clean, but never squeaked before I switched to shampoo bars. After that, it squeaks when I start rinsing shampoo, but ACV puts an end to that. I haven't noticed that there's any adverse effects in that- I guess it's just the way that a soap based cleaner acts with my hair. As long as hair feels and looks good afterwards, I'm happy.

Well, this morning instead of Nature's Gate I used some of my daughter's TreSemme s+c (she has long hair, btw!).  My hair still squeaked when I washed it.  But it felt so good after it had dried.  And it looks shinier, too.  The past couple of days it seemed sort of lifeless and dull, and was feelin' kinda dry.  So I'm thinkin' maybe my hair likes cones?!  At least I *think* TreSemme has cones...ah well.  Trial and error!

I know what you mean--yesterday I was walking down the hall here at work and got behind a woman, probably around 40'ish, with hair between shoulder length and bsl.  The top of it looked good.  But the ends looked awful!  I always wanna go up to those people and give them advice--like I'm the hair police or something!!  
"Okay now, ma'am, I'm gonna let you off with a warning this time.  But don't let me catch you in this building again with your hair in such poor condition.  I'll run you in for HUD!"  (Hair Under Duress)   *lol*
