Title: Facial Moisterizer Post by Christiana on Apr 19th, 2005 at 1:12am
Hi Ladies,
I know we are all intensely interested in our hair care, and I figured that maybe our skin care would rank not far behind! I would like to know if any of you have a home remedy/recipe or something natural to use as a facial moisterizer. I have very oily skin with dry patches, and store-bought moisterizers, even those for sensitive skin or oil free, cause me to break out and get all red. Right now I am using plain aloe vera gel for a moisterizer, it is the only thing that adds some protection to my face without causing a breakout. I don't exactly have a lot of money to spend on products, soooooooo.... Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions!! |

i have a combination skin, but products from the pharmacy do work on me. supposedly, jojoba doesn't clog pores. i use it sometimes. and especially nice for oily skin is EO's of ylang ylang and lavender (mixed in the jojoba). so you could use the aloe vera and add here and there the jojoba (or everywhere if it doesn't cause breakouts on you). i think i read somewhere of people having good results with oil of hazel as well. shea butter is nice too but heavier, i sometimes use it on parts of my face like the cheeks.

My skin is oily and breakout-prone, too. :P When it does get dry patches I mist it with lavender or rosewater and either apply a bit of aloe vera gel (when it isn't too dry) or a tiny amount of jojoba oil or shea butter (when it is very dry). Using the aloe on damp skin keeps it from tightening up on me and the oil or butter seems to soak in better over damp skin. So far I haven't gotten any breakouts from using either.

I'm always switching around to whatever works but when all else is failing me jojoba does sooth and doesn't cause me to breakout ...g

Where can you buy shea butter and jojoba oil? Could I find it at a local store or do I need to look online?

You can find Shea butter at Wal*Mart, Christiana, in big tubs in the ethnic hair care section (usually at the end of the shampoo aisle) and sometimes next to the moisturizers.
The JoJoba oil you're going to either have to buy online or at the local health food store. |

buy jojoba oil here: it's the cheapest I've seen. She also has the most payment and shipping options. http://www.mystifyyourssenses.com
Brenda is a sweet lady. I love my jojoba and it's the only moisturizer I use on my face. Anais |

Thanks for the info! If you don't mind, could you all please tell me about HOW MUCH shea butter or jojoba you use on your face? I never know how much is too much, and I always seem to go overboard with stuff. Knowing what amounts others use would be very helpful to me.
Sorry to just first jump in with a non hair related post on this board...I just posted my hair intro on the New Members section a few minutes ago! :) |

I've not used Shea Butter, but I use jojoba oil on my hair and skin. I use very little of the oil. A single drop goes a very long way.

I just moisturize my hands after washing and before messing with my hair. Shea doesn't seem to work for my face.
Recently due to an emergency exposure I had to use Tecnue on my face and as of right now - it's really working well for itching and breakouts without being drying - no guarantees how long that'll last ...g |

ooh way, i found this light shea butter version of the one i alreadt had (melvita, french made). it contains shea butter (hu hi), grape seed oil, , carrot seed oil, rosa canina fruit oil, tocopherol and rosewood oil. smells nice, leaves no greasy feeling (at least not on my hands). i'll try it on my face tonight.
