Title: Making Hair Toys
Post by PreciousLocks on Mar 31st, 2005 at 11:15pm
I made a bun cover the other night.  I've also found  instructions for barrettes and small snoods attached to barrettes.  Does anyone have suggestions for the type of barrette to use as a base?  The instructions recommend those french clip styles that rip your hair with all the metal joints.  Especially for the snood, I'd want a barrette that would hold a pony tail.

You could try doing a slide-style piece. Maybe get a hairstick, take the necessary measurements, and poke two holes in the front part of the barrette.

If you crochet, this site http://www.crochetme.com/ has instructions for slide-style barrettes and hair ties.
And this site http://www.geocities.com/thespookstress/index.html shows how to sew felt on the metal barrettes to make them hair safe.  I haven't tried this, so I don't know how it works.

Good Idea - it will probably hold in my slippery hair better than a store-bought slide too.

13bodies - Thanks for the links.  I'll give it a try with the metal barrettes I've stuck in the "do not use" pile.

Now, I just have to find the rest of my crochet hooks.....
