Title: Center parts are evil!?
Post by Ceridwen on Mar 23rd, 2005 at 3:09pm
Trawling the web, I've come across this thingy about GM having a major thing against center parts.  Mine parts there naturally, anything else I do always ends up in the center, or drives me batty nuts.  What's so wrong with center parts?  Is it bad for your hair, or does Mr. Michaels just not like the look of them?

I've read that Mr Michael's idea for side  parts is to create more lift for the hair.  Since most people either have no natural part, or a center part, combing the hair from the side would go "against the grain".  This creates a natural lift for more body.

I like a side part when I wear my hair down for special occasions, but my natural center part eventually takes over.

So, it's more a look question.

If I part my hair at all, I prefer to center part- it suits my face beautifully.

My hair parts in the center, no matter if I part it on the side or brush it back with no part...it ends up parting in the center.  :-/

I think it's an aesthetics thing. Center isn't nearly as aesthetically pleasing as slightly off center. Especially if it's about 2/3 of the way across.

Still pushing Golden Ratio!

Ah good...  I'll keep my center, I think.  It's less hassle, and I think it looks better on me personally.

I tried to train my hair for FOURTEEN years to accept a side part.  I finally gave up.  :P  It wants to part in the center; who am I to judge?

I don't think center parts look all that great on me, but my hair wants to part there naturally!!  I usually part it on the left side for lift.   The GM theory is that center parts-something about hair isn't its strongest that way?
I read it on TLHS a long time ago.  That and his all one length theory-which I'm still testing out.

well it makes perfectly sense: a center part distributes the hair the most evenly so no part are more exposed to the elements. the same is true with all one length hair: thickest ends, safest ends. but i don't believe hair will start growing asymmetrically to catch up to be all one length, first of all since all one length hair doesn't mean at all that all your individual hairs are equally long anyway. and i never saw my  layers speeding up either.  ::)

The one theory about parts I have heard consistently is not to part your hair in the same place all the time.  The theory being that parting in one place thins it out there.  Personally I try for the "no part" look.  I think I look better with my hair pulled back away from my face.

While I don' t think that center parts are a no-no, I do believe that a side part better accentuates the face, especially if a person has asymmetrical features.  Of course, if your hair naturally parts itself down the center, and you like it and it feels the most comfortable for you, then that trumps all others' perceptions of aesthetics, and you should wear your hair that way.   :)

For me, pulling hair straight back without a part puts a painful amount of stress on the front hairline, to the point where I'd worry about losing some hairs. A side part makes me look like I've got a bald spot. Some people really were meant to have center parts.

I like center parts!  Sometimes mine falls slightly off center, either left or right and that's okay, but I really like a center part!

I get head hurt if I don't distribute carefully so the natural part which is fractions past center works well.

I actually look really sucky with a proper side part - something to do with my face shape ...g

I can wear a center part or a side part... depends on my hair's moodiness...  ;D
