Title: My Bright White/Blond hair Post by shmooey on Mar 11th, 2005 at 6:17pm
Hi there, This is my first post here and i guses ive never paid much attention to my hair, but its ALWAYS been a subject of discussion. I just realized after looking around this page, that i DO have long hair... or at least i think so. I never thought my hair was a very unique legnth, but maybe im wrong. I dont know where else to share, so i decided to post my pictures here. Tell me what you think!
Im 18, 19 in April, I havent trimmed my hair in over a year, and ive never blown dry my hair, in my whole life. I dont use any products on my hair, and i normally wear it in a low bun. Im inspired to start wearing my hair down though, from you ladies :) I rarely wear it down, and when i take down my hair, people just ghasp because they have no idea how long it is. My hair is VERY VERY thin and it looks like nothing when i have it up. Gathered, my hair is about the circumfrance of a nickle. And because i always get questions, This is my natural hair colour, and I am albino. Sorry i look flushed in the pictures! Please tell me what you think of my hair, and if it is or is not long. thanks:) |

WELCOME!
You have lovely hair. It is a color that I KNOW many people work very hard to get. It looks to be in good condition too! You obviously take good care of it. I don't think I've every seen a person with albino-traits that has hair as long as yours. Keep up the good work! I look forward to more posts from you. |

wwoooowww ... an albino !!! (sorry, i think it's so rare that i've always found it amazing to see that! i even googled quite often for it. the only albino i saw in real was a "black albino"). your hair is pretty! ;D
i adore extreme colors. |

Wow thank you for all the nice complements :)
I havent worn my hair down in a long time, so i cant really say a whole lot of strangers ever Oooo or Ahhh over it. People comment about the colour almost every other day. People ask where i got it, if its natural, if im NORWEGIAN (!!?) Or if its hard being albino :P Bikerbraid, your right, allot of people try and get their hair this colour :) I Remember when i was in the bathroom of an airport, there was a lady doing her makeup in the mirror next to me, and she had short, frazzled, dried, crispy, crunchy, yellowy and very blond hair, with blackish roots all over- and she stared at my hair and gave me such a look of death!! I bet she spends most of her money on her hair and on that tan she was sporting :P I also remember when i was little, strangers would touch my hair (its really REALLY soft for some reason... feels like a bundle of silk fibers)- but ive never had anyone approach me in a long time, other than random rude comments about my hair colour from people at checkouts, or waiting in lines.. I read the other forums, and do you guys really have people come up to you about your hair? And also, what legnth hair do i have? its just an inch or so above my waist- and what is classic legnth hair? sorry for all the questions! |

I get comments on my hair when I wear it down or in a braid. Either of these styles shows the length. When I wear it in a bun, the length is not as noticable on me because, like you, I have fine hair. It is not uncommon for someone to "tug" my braid or ponytail, then comment on the length of it.
The length of your hair is almost waist length. Classic length would be to the bottom of your rearend. Most people consider waist length very long, but aroung the long hair boards, it is probably an "average" length. As for the questions - ask away! That's what we do here! ;D |
Title: Re: My Bright White/Blond hair Post by shmooey on Mar 11th, 2005 at 7:19pm
Lol! wow i cant beleive people will just come up and 'tug' at your hair.
I cant wait untill my hair is to my hips, i think that would be so fun. My hair almost glows in the sunlight, so i think it would look great, being so long. AHhh i hope i can get it that long! Its supposed to grow like 6 in per year right? Ehh i dont think my hair is growing that fast... Ill have to check school photos. Any tips on promoting hair growth? It is that wishful thinking? :) |

Welcome! Your hair is beautiful. Yes, it looks long to me. I just love the colour.

1/2" of growth a month is average. Many people have more growth during the warmer summer months, and less growth during the colder winter months (if you live in a temperate climate). Hair will sometimes go through a resting phase when it does not grow at the average rate, but that does not necessarily mean you are at the terminal length.
Growing long hair takes lots of patience. Keeping yourself healthy will help maximize the growth. You are at an age when your hair is probably growing at it's fastest, so enjoy! |

Your hair is really beautiful! :o I can see why that poor lady with the frazzled hair was so jealous!

Welcome to LongLocks shmooey. True that around these boards you have "average" hair length, but since mine is so short (just above shoulder length :P) I really appreciate your hair length.
I would say that for every nasty look or comment you hear there are probably 10 unspoken appreciative thoughts from others about your hair color and length. Besides which, no one else has to live with your hair -- you do! Considering all the bottle blondes around you know they are really jealous -- their problem is in not being able to accept and appreciate what they have. Glad to have you here. ;D |

Your hair is beautiful! It looks like silk!
That was a cute description of that lady's hair in the airport! She was probably green with envy! Lynn :) |

Stop wearing that beautiful hair up, immediately! At least not all the time :). Millions of women the world over, are trying really hard to achieve your colour and you, who have it, are hiding it? You know what they say: "If you've got it, flaunt it" :D Moreover it looks really silky and pleasant to the touch ;) Really your hair is an asset so enjoy it and be proud of it :)
Maybe you can work on achieving thicker ends ( I prefer my hair to be of a uniform thickness while growing, but there are lots of people who love feathered ends, whatever works best for you :)) Oh, btw Welcome aboard! ;D ;D g_l |

Maybe that "Norwegian" comment comes from that in Scandinavia your beautiful hair color is a bit more usual than elsewhere? I'm from Finland and have seen a few people with that haircolor (or almost white hair), though I don't remember if anyone I've seen had as long hair as you do. :D It isn't actually albino color (colorless skin and red eyes), but goes here usually with gray or light blue eyes and fair skin. In any case, nice hair! :D
If your hair is Scandinavian type in other terms that color (it sounds like that), it's good to keep it up quite a lot...in that case, it's beautiful but quite fragile and keeping up protects it. But to me, it sounds like you're already taking good care of it :D. Welcome! |

My goodness, that's gorgeous hair! Just... wow. It's lovely and unusual, and it looks just baby soft. Silk's my favorite fiber to work with :)
Yep, if I ever saw you, I'd so go up and coo over it ;) And yeah, you get both the 'OMG, can I braid your hair!?' crowd and the 'So, when are you going to cut it' contingent... sour grapes in the latter *nods* *has one last look for now* Vewy pwetty *nods* |

Phwew! ive been gone out of town for a while but now im back.
Thank you all for so many nice comments. Im really trying to find new ways of keeping my hair down so i can show it off :) Although, i think i would like to try oiling my hair at the ends... And around here, Jojoba oil is outrageously expensive... like 20$ for a 4oz bottle. Would hazlenut oil work? |
Title: Re: My Bright White/Blond hair Post by Ceridwen on Mar 19th, 2005 at 5:11pm
Try drugstore.com - they've got it for around $8, and a bunch of other cool stuff.
You might want to give extra virgin olive oil a try - it's heavier, but excellent, and a whole lot cheaper. Just be sure to get 'cold press'. |
Title: Re: My Bright White/Blond hair Post by shmooey on Mar 19th, 2005 at 8:52pm
Well ive got some very very nice olive oil, and id almost rather not use that on my hair! I cook allot, and that oil is precious to me (not to mention really pricey). :P
I suppose i could pick up a cheaper bottle of some evoo at the store, but i actually already have some hazlenut oil.. and since i dont really use it to cook with anymore- how do i find out if its okay to use in my hair? |
Title: Re: My Bright White/Blond hair Post by bikerbraid on Mar 19th, 2005 at 9:48pm
I have no idea about the hazelnut oil. I guess you could try a bit on your hair and see what it does. At the worst, your hair will be oily and you can wash it out!
I ordered my jojoba oil from Vitamin Shoppe for $7 for 4 oz plus shipping. |

My turn to add! *oogles at the pretty hair* Ooo, it's just LOVELY! The color is so beautiful *hair envy* And yes, I have waist-length hair and anytime I wear it down nowadays, people are just itching to touch it! I'm fairly protective, and have adopted a "smile but turn QUICKLY" move to keep gents and ladies (with rings and bracelets on... GRARRR!!!) from snagging their fingers into my hair. |

Shmooey,
Your hair is simply exquisite. The color is so beautiful and unique, what a blessing! You are an inspiration to all of us fine-haired ladies trying to grow their hair out. :) |
