Hey! I'm more on the goth side style-wise, and my dress for prom will most likely be renaisannce style or deep/dark colors, my hair is shoulder-length, and I was wondering is anyone has any cool style that goes with a renaisannce-themed dress that I can do with my slightly short hair?? Thanks so much!!

A french braid would be one idea.  I'm not feeling creative tonight - I'll have to give this more thought.

Hm.  Shoulder-length for Renaissance is going to be tricky.  Is adding a fall an option?  

Or what about a hat?  There were some really cool hat styles then.  If you pulled your hair back into a ponytail, you could then pin a small pillbox hat over it.  Very Renaissance, and also probably not what anyone else will be wearing!

An easier option though, might be to get a snood.  I used to work at a Renaissance Faire, and a lot of the women who had shorter hair used them.  Just pull your hair back into a ponytail, then pin the snood over it, and no one can tell you don't have gobs of hair.  Of course, the snood has to be opaque, not one of those net ones, for that to work.  If you're using a net, you can just tuck a fall into it, to give the appearance of having lots of hair.

If you have lots of baby hairs, French braid-based style is probably the one that looks best. If your hair is mostly one length, you could try Dutch braids (they're made just like French, just in reverse order: you braid under the strands, instead of from top).

You might want to try French braid with the end tucked under the braid and secured with pins or hairsticks. This is very elegant style.

The other cool option would be, that you center part hair, French/Dutch braid both sides and arrange the ends upwards (best look depends on how long your hair exactly is, so you need to experiment a bit with this one).

If you have shoulder-length hair, you might want to try a French classic.  This means you part your hair in the center, then french-braid each side back to, oh, just past your ears.  Then you finish the braids, and pin them together.  If the ends are really short, you can hide the point of pinning with a bow or ribbon.  Now your hair is half up, half down, and the sides are French braided.  If you are having a hard time visualizing this, there are photos and instructions on dreamweaverbraiding.com.  
A French crown braid would also probably work for you, but it's harder to do, especially on yourself.

I do a lot of SCA stuff...  you might want to get yourself a metallic thread snood and one of those fake braid things, if you can find one.  If not, you can do this with braided fabric or ribbons.  Snoods, you can order from various places, can't remember where I got mine.  Anyhow, The way I do it, goes like this...

make the braid into a wrap-around headband, slip it over the hair, leaving the front hair loose.

with a center part, wrap the front hair over the braid, securing with bobby pins

put the snood over the rest, tucking the edge under the fake braid headband, which makes a great pinning foundation.

Voila!  Your hair's netted and pretty, and it doesn't take much length.  I've got some pics of me doing it last Pennsic...

Here I am wrapping around the foundation braid.  It works best if you section it, starting at the part and adding more hair as you keep wrapping.

That looks great ceridwen.  A great way to wear a snood.  

And it keeps it from falling off too ;)  Seems like the roll at the hairline anchors the net and keeps it from succumbing to gravity
