Title: How did you find LongLocks?
Post by bikerbraid on Mar 4th, 2005 at 7:42pm
I'm just curious, how did each of you find your way to the LongLocks Salon/LongLocks HairStick Boutique?

  • Google search for hair sticks
  • Google search for long hair
  • Google search for hair styles
  • Link from another long hair site (which?)
  • Link from another hair stick site (which?)
  • Link from another message board (which?)
  • Link from a banner exchange (what site did you link from?
  • Message link from another board (which?)
  • Personal referral
  • It's a funny story...let me tell you....
  • I've been here so long I have no idea anymore

I fall in the last category - I don't remember if I found LL from a google search or a link from somewhere else.  Tell us how YOU found us!

I found LL by Googling for hat pins.  It took me to Waltzing Willow and now I'm addicted to hairsticks.  Who'd a thunk?

Google search for hair styles - or long hair styles I'm not sure now -- and yes I'm still relatively "new" but my memory..... ::)

I Googled for hairsticks. Even before ordering my first pair, I found the guide for growing long hair. I still think that it saved my hair.

well...
my sister's good friend has BSL hair and was looking for hair toys on line one day and stumbled upon LL.  She told my sis all about the site and the beautiful hairsticks, mentioning that "maybe your sister would be interested in checking it out?".....

Well - - - dozens of pairs of hairsticks later.......
My sister keeps apologizing each time she sees a new pair - And when visiting at Christmas time (4 or 5 pair ago.....) After walking out of my bathroom, exclaimed, "Good grief - :o how many of those things do you HAVE??!!!", then the now customary: "Oh, I am so sorry I introduced you to that site!" ::)

I'VE NEVER BEEN SORRY!!!!!!!!!

I'd never even seen hairsticks in person before my first pair - and I doubt I'll ever see a "last" pair - ;D

I remember I googled "hair sticks" to find some pictures I could use for description ideas for something I was writing. I stayed to look around once I noticed the hair care information that could be found around the site, and I really only checked the forums out of curiosity. I'm glad I did. :)

Just my usual habit of doing research on something before I jump in. I was researching different oils, namely jojoba. There was a HUGE jojoba thread on this forum that I came across. Now the story behind my growing my hair in the first place, THAT's an odd story. (post #39 in journal)

THANK YOU LONGLOCKS for saving my hair!

I did a search on yahoo for healthy hair tips or something like that.  After I read the hair care article, I started looking around at the photos and message boards and just fell in love with this place.  Long Locks has such a great loving aura about it.  I'm so glad I found you guys because it's just a very positive place.

I was looking for information on medieval tablet weaving, its used to weave thin bands.

Then I got into other things, such as naalbinding and sprang, making cord and braiding (with string) and on the page it had something about how the page gets a lot of people looking for hair braiding instructions, and that this was a string page and had a link to a hair braiding page.  Now, I was really looking for tablet weaving things, but I clicked it and got taken to the dreamweaver braiding site, then I think I searched for more hair braiding stuff, and came here

Google search for hair combs, which lead me to the vintage hair combs section.  I decided to explore the site further.......

Ooooooh! This is interesting!

I was, oddly enough, on a weight-loss message board.

I have since decided to give it up and embrace my plus-sized, 200+ pound build. My dad and I are both built like grizzly bears. I finally accepted that fact after a year-long attempt at age 17 to stay at 160 pounds (I'm 5'9" so that was supposed to be close to "ideal" for me) on less than 1000 calories a day that left me weak, pale and anemic. Followed my my body kicking into full-scale rebellion and putting on almost 60 pounds during the year and a half I was in college, which I am still entirely unable to lose despite eating very healthily.

Anyway, there was a section for other posts having to do with appearance...hair, makeup, clothing, whatever...and this one girl who was growing out her hair (and also doing severe calorie restriction, so I don't know how she managed to keep her hair healthy) posted a link to this site.

My self-esteem was six feet under back then and I thought I could compensate by forcing my body to stay skinny somehow. Needless to say, I haven't been to THAT message board in months, I frequent this one, and I like looking in the mirror now because my hair is so shiny and healthy. Nothing like a sign of good health to help your self-esteem.   ;D

Oh, and some sexy plus-size clothing.   ;)

Ohhhhhh  ;D ;D my turn to grin widely! I am a plus size too, Ella. Nice to see another one around and with a healthy attitude like you have!!
I have dieted only once in my life. when I finished school, and I lost 3/5 of my hair because of all the wrong things I did while dieting and malnutrition. I was lucky that I had extremely lots of hair before that, otherwise I would have been completely bald as a result :-/ :'(. So after that I never dieted again. I prefer to keep what is left of my hair, thankyouverymuch  :) :D

So let's swap ideas and sites  ;) :) 8)

Don't forget me from plus-sized ladies' meeting  ;D .

I've been overweight since my childhood, and though I sometimes lose some weight, I don't really want to become of normal weight. It would feel too weird.
I quite like the way I look and I'm not there to decorate anyone else's world (well, except my spouses', but he seems to love me too). I don't have health problems, and my body is quite capable of carrying me through my everyday life. Besides, I have seen my share of nice, overweight people who have lost a lot of weight, and turned magically into really annoying persons whose entire life has started to revolve around food and looks. So...that's so not going to happen to me! Instead I'm going to become even less trendy, and have a long, flowing mane! :D Already, getting some hair has made me very happy.

Here's my contribution to clothing ideas.
Galadriel's tip no1: Never believe those who say that light colors or white don't suit to plus sized people (usually they're the same people who say that long hair is no-no for anyone above 30 ;) ). If you like the color, any color will look great on you.
tip no2: A common advice is, that large people should "hide" themselves in dark clothes and wear anything that makes them appear smaller. As long as there are no clothes that make a size 20 person appear just like a size 8 person, I think that this line of reasoning is doomed (besides, it expresses that the bigger person isn't happy with her true self). Instead, I prefer to pursue beauty standards that are somehow more approachable. Look Star Wars Episode 1 Queen's clothes. They don't make her look small (quite the opposite, in fact), but are still stunning. So, in similar spirit, I try to experss qualities like dignity, timelessness and harmony in my style.

http://www.gudrunsjoden.com has some great, comfortable and a bit unusual clothes, usually made of natural materials.

I recently read somewhere that being overweight can actually be healthier than not in some situations.  Specifically they said that as long as your chloresterol, blood pressure and heart rate were within normal levels, and you participate in moderate activity at least 3 times a week, you will be "healthier" than a thin person that is constantly dieting with a restrictive diet and gets no exercise.

I am not at the ideal weight for my height and would love to lose 40 pounds.  My doctor, however, keeps telling me that my vitals are good, I eat balanced meals (avoiding fats), and get regular exercise - so I should not worry about the extra weight!  He tells me that apparently my body likes this size (I could kill my body for deciding THIS is the optimal size!) and to lose weight would probably require something drastic that would not necessarily be healthy.  There must be something to what he says, since my weight does not fluctuate much between winter and summer, and my exercise in the summer is 10 times more than during the winter.

So I have learned to accept who I am.  I wear the colors I like.  I wear the clothes I like (fortunately I've never been fond of the skimpy clothes!).  I wear my hair how I like.  The heck with the rest of the world!  ;D

Hahahah...

According to that retarded chart, I am about 75 pounds overweight.

HECK, no!!!!!!!!!!

Once I weighed 60 pounds less than I do now and that was ENOUGH, thank you. I was already getting weak.

I like to wear long, flowy clothing (like those "swing" tops that are flared out at the bottom and long billowy skirts) because it flatters my figure and makes my short, petite friends insanely jealous because if they wore clothing like that they would look like they were drowning in it.  ;)

Sometimes the petite people of the world could stand to be made a little jealous, I think.

How did I find this site? I googled for braiding. I've always been fascinated with long braided hair. As my hair has finally acquired a proper length, I wished to understand how to braid it myself.

I already understood how to braid others' hair, but was uncertain how one does it themselves. So, I figured let's check the internet for tips.

During that search process, I found this site full of not only valuable information about braiding, but how to care for the long hair I've always wanted.

I first discovered LongLocks hairsticks waaaay back, even before this site existed, when the hairsticks were available through another site only.I remember seeing pictures of a hairstyle adorned with Susan's hairsticks on that site  back in 1999 or was it even 1998 ?-and I just had to have some of them ;) ;) ;)
They were my first ''real'' hairjewellery, before that I had just used some scrunchies/plastic barrettes to tie back my hair.

Most of those charts and sites assume that you have a small frame and small features.According to some charts,I should be 100 pounds! No way!I'm short ,but have a large fram and large features.I would die at 100 pounds!Right now I'm probably somewhere between 155-160 lbs,and my goal weight is 130 lbs which seems reasonable for me.I'm slowly getting myself to excercise, and slowly, because I've been inactive most of my life and very weak when it comes to physical stuff.I am eating healthier, but I will not obsess or restrict myself too much.

I found LL when I searched for hair care faq or long hair faq.  It was lower on the list, however.  I believe it was on the third page of the search results.

But by digging around, I struck gold!
