Well, being the bookworm that I am I grew up nearly living off my favorite fairy tales, The Little Mermeriad, Beauty and the Beast, and of course Rapunzel. I know them all from my mother reading them to me, but I've seen Samson mentioned on these boards yet I can't remember story with that name or about someone with that name.

Can anyone satisfy my bookish curiosity? What's the story here, and do you know the titles of any books I could find it in?
And- just for the fun of it, what were your favorite fairy tales?

Samson is a character from the Christian Bible, from the book of Judges. He was the strongest man alive, but his only weakness was his hair: his strength was dependent on his hair length. His enemies the Philistines sent a woman named Delilah to seduce him and talk the weakness out, and I believe she reported back to his enemies, had him fall asleep on her, and a man was called to cut his hair off. In any case, she received several dozen pieces of silver for her efforts.

Samson was then imprisoned, de-eyed, and then taken out of his cell during a holiday for the masses to mock him. By then, his hair had grown back some. He said a prayer to Yahweh, for the strength to beat the Philistines, and pushed against the pillars so that the entire temple crushed down on the people.

Wow Anais, I don't remember reading anything that interesting in the bible.  They must have skipped the good parts in bible school.   ::)

Now that it's been explained to me I do remember it being read to me out of the bible we had, but that was years and years back, so it doesn't surprise me that I forgot about it.
Still, it's an interesting story I may have to re-read.
