I am so frustrated.  I have colored my dark blond hair red for a bit over a year now, and while it was swell I'm really concerned about my transition.  I also feel as if all of the sudden my hair isn't as thick as it was just a month or two ago. Is it a winter thing??  Trying not to panic, here.
One thing I considered is to go to semi-permanent color.  Something that gradually washes out.  I read the recommendations on low-lights, and I am going to the hairdressers on Wednesday and I want to go in armed with a plan I can live with.
I've got a few layers that are driving me nuts.  My bangs are about 1-1 1/2" below my chin.  Since I plan on growing at least to BSL, should I cut my length up so I'm more at one length?
I'm beside myself with uncertainty.
I hate to loose the length-I can barely make a basic bun as it is and I love to wear my hairsticks often and won't be able to do that if I cut it.

Growing out layers can be sooooo difficult.  If you like to make a bun, I would suggest not trimming any more than is absolutely necessary, so that  you can continue to make a bun.  You can then schedule more trims later to even out the layers.

It is always hard to lose any length when you are trying to grow your hair long.  But at some point you may want to hold at a particular length so that you can eliminate the layers.  In my opinion, it is easier to even up the length  before your hair gets too long, when you will really hate to lose the length.

Thanks, Bikerbraid for the great advice.  I couldn't have low lights because my hair color was too dark compared to my root color, but she did a weave and semi-permanent color to let it blend while it grows out.  I did get ends trimmed up and I'll be going every 8 weeks between appointments, so trims maybe every 16 weeks.  I feel good about the game plan.

In order to reduce the red in my hair she has to do some special application of stuff (kind of like a double highlight?) and now while I'm more blonde than red, my hair feels much drier than usual.  I'm trying to figure out the best way to super deep condition or maybe I just need to do deep conditioning frequently.
I recently bought jojoba oil, and have started putting it on my ends at bedtime the day before I wash.
I am not comfortable with CO, not sure why but I have ordered CurlyGirl book which should arrive soon.  I'm a wavy girl.
I'd love any suggestions or to hear what's worked for you.

Persistence is my suggestion.  The ends of my hair have been color treated, wind blown, sun bleached, and who knows what else.  They used to be dry, brittle and crunchy.  I have been using jojoba oil on the length, avoiding -cones, and using a bit of conditioner as a leave in for the past 2 years.  My ends are now soft and pliable, without split ends - plus my hair has more shine than I ever remember it having.

Keep conditioning and try to take care of your hair from now on.  

I'm really really really liking Beauty without Cruelty leave in- I put it in the days I wear my hair up.  It kinda weights down my fine hair otherwise- maybe I'm using too much?? :-/ Anyway, it has a lot of natural ingredients and no cones- It's the one no- cone product that  keeps my hair silky and smooth.  And it ain't expensive either.  I ordered  mine at drugstore.com.
