Title: $5000 to cut your hair? Post by BrunnetteTexan on Jan 10th, 2005 at 1:30am
My sister-in-law and I love to watch What not to Wear. We thought it would be fun to go on the show but then it occurred to me that the stylists on the American version are pretty scissor happy. My sister-in-law has fairly short hair but I have just gotten mine shoulder length and in good shape. I know the kind of responce I will probably get here but I thought it would fun to hear everyone's opinion. Would you take a $5000 clothing shopping spree if it ment cutting your hair?

THAT IS THE THING NIGHTMARES ARE MADE OF!!!!!! :o
I have to turn WNTW's stacy off as soon as I see a beautifully long-locked woman get selected. I know it's only a matter of time before her crowning glory becomes dust-pan filler. :-[ The episode with the husband and wife dental team... Her beyond classic length hair was healthy, natural and extremely well maintained. I turned the episode off after the shopping portion - because I knew what was coming... silly me - as I was channel surfing a short while later - saw the "after" photos. Just below the shoulders, and they had the audacity to say, "see - it's still really long" - yeah, right. Losing 2 feet of hair is just a trim - No amount of wardrobe - no matter where purchased or how 'high end' could EVER repay the horror of having my hair cut. Just thinking about it makes me weak at the knees (ha ha) :) nightowl |

I am with you. I wouldn't do it. Atleast on the British version they have more respect for what a person wants to do with their hair rather than forcing them into a style they didn't want. There is only one way I would do it--if Stacy got a pixie cut the same time I was getting mine cut. She can be so obnoxious!! I didn't make clear in my post, my sister-in-law watches the American version, I love the British version.

NOOOOOOOO! :o :o :o
::) That was just my spontaneous reaction. I almost never watch TV, but the idea sounds horrible. If I ever cut my hair, let it have some better reason- like really feeling that short hair would look superior. (Now how likely is that...) The 5000 dollars wouldn't be just for letting them cut your hair- it would have to compensate also miserable life with short hair you might wouldn't like at all, and having all your hair-growing efforts done empty in a whim. For me, it wouldn't be nearly enough money for the time I've put up with my hair growing it from very short to below shoulders length. If I had a really long hair, I suspect that no money would be a fair compensation. |

hmmm....I wouldn't do it for $5000 - and definitely not for a clothing shopping spree :P
But I don't think I could say I wouldn't do it at any price.... However, it'd have to be a _good_ price - it'd take me another three years to grow my hair back to where it is, so it'd have to be enough money to do or buy something that would make a difference for me for those three years to make up for being unhappy with the way I look for that time... mind you, one of those programmes would probably want to make me get rid of my jeans and heavy metal t-shirts too, and that's not happening any more than the hair is! |

I defo wouldn't do it for a shopping spree. I don't like clothes shopping. It does my head in. (Especially now when I can't fit into anything anyway!)
The only circumstances I'd do it was if I they offered me €1 million and they agreed to cut no short layers. (I could always get extensions with the money, I suppose.) Then again, this is coming from someone who is in the process of growing her hair and doesn't have quite as much to lose as some of the others on this board. |

I might consider it, but there would have to be conditions. They could not cut it shorter than BSL, no layers and no chemical treatments.
I love my long hair, but I know that I will probably cut it eventually. If they approached me at the right time, I could go for it....... not today, not tomorrow, probably not even next month, but someday......... |

My sis with her satellite tele has access to all those shows - but with my plain old cable - no such luck! Yes - it would be amazing to see stacy shorn short! THAT I would watch AND enjoy!

No! *nearly faints*
This is why I hate television.. filling our heads full of nonsense like "wacky layers and fried-dyed hair are the way to go this season!" Pffft! For 5,000 dollars I could take those sewing classes I've been meaning to take and make myself a nice wardrobe! (Do I hear Regency dresses and Victorian skirts and blouses? Yes yes!) Style is individualistic. I think you should wear what makes YOU feel comfortable, attractive.. etc etc. If you are confident in what you're wearing, other people will think the same thing. (The exception being Joan Rivers, but she tends to knock everybody once or twice.) |

On another board I recently wrote that I would shave my head for $50,000 per year's growth, or $275,000. I think that's reasonable, not having to work again until my hair's grown back.

I wouldn't let them touch my hair. They would probably cut it all off and then dye what was left of it and highlight it. Cutting my hair for money is not something I could see myself doing, even if new clothes would be nice.

Nice to know there is someone else out there with a wicked mean streak. I hate it when she tells women with long hair to get it cut while flipping hers around. I watch What Not to Wear on BBC America. It's a premium cable channel which we get because hubby can't live without his SciFi channel. Infact 99% of shows on TLC are ripoffs of British tv show. Hubby and I call TLC shows Americans Behaving Badly because their goal seems to be making people cry. |

As much as I HATE What Not to Wear, I'd probably do it, but not for the shopping spree - I'd do it to help pay for college! :o But only with certain conditions - no layers, no chemical dyes, nothing above the shoulderblades. And you'd probably have to tie me down to a chair first. ::)

Too, too funny!!! (tell hubby I'm with him...anything sci-fi for me!) My cable includes the sci-fi channel (thankfully) but the BBC isn't available yet - must start calling the cable company! nighowl |

I'm glad there are other women out there that like the SciFi channel, too.
