Title: Hair Goals
Post by Valerie on Dec 17th, 2004 at 1:18pm
What are everyone's personal hair goals?  Short term, long term, anything in between?  Any anything from length, color, hair toys, styles mastered, etc...

My goals are:
To reach classic length by 27.  Just under 2 years away, and 12 inches according to my last measurment.  I'm hoping to keep up some fast hair growth or this will have to be pushed out.

Once I reach classic length, to spend 3 years getting regular trims, so that at the end of 3 years I'll have virgin hair back.  I'm hoping that because I'm taking good care of my hair that I will have very few split ends when I don't have chemically treated ends.

Then to grow as long as it can.

As far as styles, I want to learn them all.  All my braiding projects are on hold for now though, so I can't think of specific ones to learn first.

long term goal: knees....i wonder if ill ever get there.

My goal is to reach classic by this time next year. I figure that knee-length would be another two years, but during the gap between classic and knee-length I'd like to take off 6 inches of my thinnest ends, so it'll take longer than that.

Because my hair is so fine  and thin, I'm first going for
waist length.  That's considered very long by most people.  Then I'll probably hold it there for awhile to
get the worst of the chemically treated ends trimmed
off and gather some thickness(if possible)  I would love
to have classic length, but with such fine hair, I don't
know if I could maintain thick enough ends.  My ends
were very thin at BSL. However, my hair was permed
at the time, so that could have definatly had something
to do with it.  As much as I love colouring my hair, I have
a feeling that to get it longer than BSL and certainly waist, its going to have to be mostly "virgin" hair, because it's so fragile.

yup, same here ... i think with little trims it will take me two years or with bigger trims three years (depends on how nervous those thin layered ends will drive me!).
sometimes i think just tailbone length might look more harmonious with the body though so i am not this sure yet. i would like to try later on mid-tigh (the longest i find still nice looking, then it gets deffo too bizar and most likely too annoying for me).

I keep thinking mid-thigh will be a great length.  But I love to see pictures of hair below the knees that is well cared for.  If I could keep it looking good, I'd go as long as possible.  (Assuming my partner will help me care for it.)

Flaming Bunny--If your almost to classic, I'm sure you'll reach your knees.  :o)
How long has it taken you?

My current goal is to get it to my waist.. but I'd really like to have classic length.  For now, it's enough for me to be impatient about the two inches it'll take to get to my waist...

I don't know - this month I reached my long term goal of tailbone, so I don't have a proper goal anymore. Everyone tells me to go for classic. What I'll do is just grow till I get bored of it or until it starts bothering me. Growing with no particular goal in mind  ;D

I think my long-term goal is hip length hair in a good condition. A true Galadriel hair.

Short term goal is BSL. Once there, I plan to stop for a while and regain some of my lost thickness. My hair is already pretty thick, but still...it bugs me that I've lost some.  :-/

My current style goal is to learn crown braid. As my hair grows a bit, I hope I can start practicing new styles.

thanks!
well, im a few inches away from classic now and my last MAJOR haircut was to my shoulders in 1998. though ive had lots of trims (some of quite a few inches) during this time. its only this past year that ive purposely been growing past waist/hip length.

My current goal is just survival!  With all the traveling I've been doing the past 2 months, I'm really surprised I haven't chopped it all off.  On the other hand, it is nice to be able to quickly put my hair up into a bun and look classy.

More seriously - my first goal was waist length.  I passed that with minimal fanfare and quickly headed to tailbone.  In my confusion of exactly where tailbone was, I continued on and am now an inch or so from classic.  I had planned on sitting (pun intended??) at that length for a while and trim up the ends to remove long damaged ends, and hopefully let my length thicken up a bit.

After that - who knows??

the past two days i saw tons of folks with waist length hair ... i was amazed that it's not such a "long impossible length" anymore. i still wonder why i chopped it of 5 years ago, i should have gone for longer instead (i wanted to get rid of that bell shape i hate so much by layering it but instead i got a cut that was just a few inches past the shoulders  ::)  )

but well, i am again past waistlength and i find it incredibly short still  >:(

Wish I'd seen this thread sooner! I'm basing my hair goals on the Golden Proportion, and going for mid thigh or fingertip length hair (61.8% of body height, and the hair must be measured from the crown in this case). ... so by college graduation I'll be at fingertip ;D ;D

Flaming Bunny, it's good to see you around again ;D

I don't have a specific goal per say...

I'm just letting my hair grow to see how long it'll get. Since I've had short hair for most of my life, I don't have a clue how potentially long it can get. This is the longest I've ever had it in my life!

My dream would be for it to be at the very least waist length. I don't know how realistic that is though. If I happen to achieve that, there is always a chance that it'll look really crap because my hair has lots of flyaways and seems to be getting finer the longer it gets!

One can dream though... ::)

i think i am at the longest i've ever been as well and i find it exciting to push the boarder hehe!

@Anais Satin: fingertip length ... i had never noticed that (i even checked it out in front of a mirror lol)!

i think it's very realistic!! like i said: i've seen tons of folks with waist length hair since i went back to belgium, while passing through paris shops. and at least half of them had fairly fine and thin hair. i even met one of my internet buddies yesterday, her hair has always been passed waist length and she has very fine and thin blonde hair. and if i imagine her with shorter hair, well i don't think she'd really gain so much volume and it still looks way better long!

Well, that's encouraging!  :)

I shall persevere and see how I get on...Hopefully I will be able to say the same thing about my hair - that it looks better long than short!

Rua, we should both grow our hair to waist length just
to see what it looks like, if nothing else!  My philosphy
is, if I don't like it, I can always cut it back.

Title: Re: Hair Goals

I agree!!

That's a good philosophy to have! We may as well push the limit for our fellow fine haired folk and see just how far we can go!  :D

and I want to see what it looks like just once!

I have fine hair too and I've never been sure I could have truly long hair.  My first goal is to have all the layers long enough to put it up.  (I'm having bad hair weeks right now >:().  Then I want to get to BSL.  Long term goal might be waist length.  I'll have to see how it works out and what it's like to handle.  ???

Thanks Bikerbraid.  You folks have already inspired me to avoid my very nice hairstylist this month ;D.  I have also been getting some nice compliments from people at work -- even during my "bad hair weeks."  Beauty in the eye of the beholder!  Got another inspiration by seeing someone with beautiful waist length hair at Christmas Eve service last night :)

My current goal is BSL which  I believe will take me the better part of a year and a half to achieve.  I hardly ever wear bras-maybe it won't take me that long!  Then I'm looking at waist length, which may be where I stay if it gets in my way at work.
At this moment I want to have really healthy hair, getting rid of my color is my biggest hurdle as of today. *sigh*

That's pretty much where I am.  I am just going to let it grow to see what happens.  But I doubt I could deal with it being longer than tailbone.

I only have two goals right now: grow my hair long enough that I can french braid it without wispies coming out everywhere, and to learn to do that hairstyle where you pin your hair up in curls when it's wet so that it dries as curls.  That seems like such a great idea, especially since I LOVE loose curls.  After that I'd like to learn to do all the different types of braids and twists and up-dos (I love to play with hair!).
I'm not sure how long I want my hair to be eventually.  It's very thick and if I grew it too long it would start to hurt my neck.  Mid-hip length might be nice though.

I've decided on 3 goals.  The first will be bra strap length which, God willing, I should reach in about a year and a half.  The second would be waist length.  And the third goal is just to basically let it grow as long as it wants!  --I guess #3 isn't really a goal, is it?!  *lol*

A goal to let it grow as long as it wants is a goal - a goal to NOT CUT!

Good luck on reaching your goals.   :D

My first goal is waist length, that's about 8cm away (so hopefully before Xmas this year?)
Then tailbone length, which btw I don't know where exactly it is  :D
Ultimate goal is classic length.  :D
But I don't know if I'll maintain that length, once there, or probably go back to tailbone. It was quite a bother when I had it at CL before  :-/ Plus it's always a question of how thick it will be at such a length, how healthy, how shiny. I want nice looking long hair, not just long hair. So I guess I'm growing and "adapting and improvising" along the way  :)

???What is BSL ???

I measure my hair from my forehead hair down the back, I take it that that isn't right.  I thought to myself this way it will always be the same where as if going on top, you may move your finger up or back and not get a correct reading. :o

Since I found your gals, I have set a goal of waist lengh. I never had it that way. Hope I'm not to old for that lengh. ;)

BSL = Bra strap length :)

This page makes a really good decoder for all the jargon and things

And waist length?  You're never too old for waist-length ;)

Yup, that's how everyone here measures too.
I've set a long, long-term goal of waistlength and by that time I expect to have a substantial amount of gray hair.  I refuse to think I'll be too old -- both of my great-grandmothers had beautiful long hair.
