Scissorless Ends
It has been almost eight months since scissors touched my hair and the ends still look surprisingly good.  Now when I see the first split, I may dust, but I  figure that a split end is no longer an intact end so it really wouldn't matter if I dusted it.

I want maximum growth and I would really like to acheive terminal length and I'm not sure you can do that if you are trimming.  Everything you cut off is part of your potential length.

Is anyone else doing this?

i know what you mean, i have been pondering about that too. well, like i mentioned before, a friend of mine didn't cut hers in at least 22 years ... the longest hairs are classic length ... if you find that amazing ....

lets say that as long as your hair looks healthy and not like rags i think cutting would indeed not be necessary.
what i am just wondering about if your "terminal" length is actually a fixed thing.  like, there could also be an influence of the length of your hair on the roots. do you notice you lose less hair at longer lengths than when it was shorter?

further more, purely statistically: when you trim, you just trim your longest hairs, not the whole bunch that didn't reach the same legth yet. except for mabe dusting, those hairs never get cut before they reach the ends (unless you like to trim baby hairs like me ... i am trying to resist doing that these days. )

so the longer your hair, the less frequent as well all those other hairs got trimmed. you're only trimming a portion that finally gets replaced by hair that was protected and (almost) never cut.

personally i'd trim when i find my ends to thinned out or fucked.  :)

Obviously, if you trim frequently, you will not achieve maximum or terminal length quickly.  Trims do serve a purpose, however.  If your ends become overly damaged, they will cause tangling and more damage, so trimming damaged ends can actually help you achieve longer hair.  The trimming must be only what is necessary (maybe 1/4" to 1/2") and be infrequent (once or twice a year).

I have not trimmed my hair in over a year, but it is due.  When all my traveling is done, I will probably trim an inch or so.  I'm almost to classic, which was my intermediate goal.  Once there, I want to trim and keep it there for a while to allow the ends to thicken up, then continue on the way to who knows what length.

I'm very curious to see how long my hair will get.
If I had "virgin" hair, I would probably go at least 6 months between trims(My hair gets damaged easlily
even when it's not chemically treated)  Right Now I
want to keep trimming (every 3 mos now) until the
colour treated part is gone or at least looks healthier.
Then I probably will let my hair go a long while without
trimming so I can get some length.

I'm in the same situation.  My last few inches are bleached and colored over.  

And I still have stray layer pieces that don't cooperate with updos and if my hair is very conditioned, some strands even slide out of a scrunchie ponytail.

I feel like I have this round basketball head.  Not a big basketball.  My hair seems to be at length(s) where no matter which way I pull my hair up, something slides out.

Sorry for the rant; kinda off topic there.

I know I will have to trim off the chemically treated part of my hair eventually, but I hate to lose any length that might help me put it up.

So far, I still have not trimmed but that may change.

It sounds like our hair may be similar; blessing and a curse, is it not? LOL

I, like you, know I will eventually have to trim these bleached ends off, too,. but I don't want to lose any length.   My face is very round, so I don't know if the
all one length suits me.  I'm trying to see if there's
really anything to that GM theory( that hair will grow
in thicker and healthier if its all one length)  Anthony
Morroco subscribes to that, too(look at his message boards on his website.)  If its not true, I'm cutting my bangs back in!

I'm going to go check out the Morrocco Method site.  The GM principles did influence me in letting my bangs grow.  I love the look of no bangs; it's just sometimes I think I might look better with bangs.  Then, I have a widow's peak and cowlicks and kind of like my hairline.

I have seen some people with round faces with all one length hair look gorgeous.  How long are your bang bits now?

Hi Strawberryfine- They're cheekbone length and driving
me CRAAAZZY!!!.  But, I'm growing them all the way out.
I had all one length(mostly, with long layers) shoulder
length and permed hair about 11 years ago.  Come to
think of it, it did seem thicker. But then I was younger and had a perm, so who knows??

Just hang in there and don't cut!  After you get them all grown out you can decide if you like it enough to keep it like that, but your hair deserves a chance, don'tchathink?

Mine have finally just reached chin-length and it is maddening.  But that cheekbone length stage is no fun either.

Hello Babyfine and Strawberryfine.  I also have very fine hair.  And straight.  It is hard to keep it from getting damaged.  Right now I still have the ramains of my last perm.  Just on the ends, now.  My layers are pretty much grown out, but the sides have not caught up to the back.  I don't know if I can stand to cut the back enough to match the sides at this point.  I'd be back up to shoulders again.

I also have a round face.  I deided to keep my bangs because of my hairline.  I look okay from the front without bangs, but my hairline is a little too far back to look good from the side with my hair up.

Hi UPLisa! I'm biting the bullet and trying to grow mine out.  I know what you mean about wanting to keep them.  I've had them for 11 years straight now.  Every time I try to grow them out I get frustrated and cut them
back.  I think I look a lot better with 'em.  I have a round face too.  But I'm doing a little experiment to see
if my hair will have more volume without them.  I 'm going to grow them all the way out (shoulders) and If I don't like them will cut them back.

Lisa, I have an uneven hairline (part of which is receding a little bit). When I do a side part, at about the 80% mark on the head, it covers up the much-hated hairline. If you ever get tired of having bangs, do consider growing them and then experimenting with a hairpart that works for you... The bangs would also add to the total volume of your hair (I remember you've had some anxieties about hair thickness)

Their foreheads were decorated with headbands which were sometimes adorned with pearls and stones. Women also wore nets in their hair during this era.

of course it was .... i even think high forheads are still linked to high IQ ... if i think of it, all the very smart people i know have especially high forheads  ;)


but even then ... i always found them pretty too, it equilibrates nicely a face.  i even think that most people i know with small forheads seem to have extremely huge noses.  :P (one of the reasons i am not a big fan of bangs ... your face gets very round and seems to consist mainly of a nose! many hats can do that too!)

I have a high forehead also, I haven't learn to love it yet but maybe one day I will grow my bangs out and then the loving of it can start.  ;D

I'm not too worried about how I would look with my hair down, but I would have to keep it up most of the time to prevent damage.  Then I think I would look like I was going bald from the side.

That's my husband's opinion on it.  That if I don't mind looking like I'm going bald, then go for it.  He's always VERY honest.
