Title: safe natural rinse to lighten dark hair? Post by BraiderSC on Oct 27th, 2004 at 8:01pm
I have medium brown hair, and am looking for a natural rinse to temporarily lighten it to maybe a light brown. I tried a chamomile rinse, and I think it lightened my natural blond streaks a little, but the change was almost imperceptible. Do ya'll have any ideas? I'm looking for something that can be made from household products/herbs, preferably! (I know, I'm cheap :P)

Chamomile will lighten hair, but it needs to be used repeatedly. Lemon used in sunlight will also lighten hair (and also dry it out).
You could add a bit of lemon to your shampoo and/or conditioner as suggested in the Hair Care Recipes. |

Back in high school, I used to soak my hair in olive oil then pour lemon juice over that and lay outside to tan. The lemon juice made it a bit easier to wash out the oil, and hopefully, the oil gave some protection. (ETA I wouldn't dream of doing this to my hair now because I want extreme length and want to treat my hair as gently as possible.)
Maybe my hair was more forgiving because we were both younger then. Have you thought about using some clear henna to bring out a magnificent natural shine? You may find that you like your natural color even better than lighter. Bikerbraid gave some wonderful advice. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. strawberryfine 8) |
