Title: Wash hair every time it gets sweaty? Post by BraiderSC on Oct 19th, 2004 at 9:39pm
I was wondering, does anybody wash their hair every time it gets sweaty? I (try to ::)) exercise daily, and I sweat a lot naturally, so my hair (near the scalp mainly) gets fairly sweaty almost every day. I only wash my hair about twice a week though-I couldn't stand washing it every day. I guess what I want to know is, is it bad to let sweat dry on your hair? I do it all the time, but then I started thinking that maybe the salt content is bad for my hair or something. Anyways, any thoughts you have would be appreciated! :)

Forget the shampoo, just use conditioner. It's gentle enough to use as often as you want, and cleans as well as shampoo.
Good ones are VO5 Free Me Freesia or Hydrators, Suave Daily Clarifying conditioner, or White Rain Extra Body. Buy these exact product names, there are others that are not so good. |

Yep, a CO wash works pretty well. I've even been known to just rinse with water to remove the salts.

Tritto - I run, I sweat - just water rinse works fine CO works fine too.
Sweat is alkaline and holds DHT so I'd think it might be bad to leave on there - for the scalp if not the hair, g |

Not to be contradictory, eKatherine, but if that's the case, then why do we use shampoo at all? :D thanks! |

I work out almost every day. I minimize the saturation of sweat in my hair by putting it in a loose bun on top of my head. This allows the sweat to evaporate during cardio. If I'm doing weights I cover my hair with a bandana, partially to wick away sweat and partially to keep my hair from making contact with the equipment (for both sanitary and safety reasons). I only wash my hair every three or four days (FWIW I *do* shower but I wear a shower cap). I've never had a problem that I can attribute to dried sweat. I am interested in learning more about potential risks from leaving sweat on the head. I suppose I could rinse just my scalp with cool water if it was an issue.

I can only speak for myself. I haven't used shampoo since April, and my hair is ever-improving. |

If you are sensitive to it - yup. It also makes me twitch :o, so I like to get rid of it. But just a squirt bottle with water to rinse the scalp would probably be just fine ...g |

Oh, that's good. I don't shampoo my hair these days
more than once or twice a week. |

That's an interesting idea, Gollan! Unfortunately I have way too much hair to ever get it all to stay on the top of my head! Sounds like it would work great for someone with shorter, finer hair than me! (My hair is waist length, thick, and makes a huge bun) |
