Title: Flyaway frizz--new growth?
Post by Valerie on Oct 19th, 2004 at 5:10am
In the last couple weeks, every time I put my hair in anything other than a french/dutch braid I get this awful frizz on the top of my head.  I think it is new growth which is nice--but it is driving me nuts.  My hair looks awful if I put it in a bun or a low single braid.  It seems to stay frizzy, until my hair is too oily and I need to wash again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Valerie

I have the same problem - lots of shorter hair that likes to do its own thing.

When I feel the need to control those frizzies, I use an aloe vera gel (without alcohol).  This holds the hair without being overly sticky or stiff.

There are a number of anti-frizz products on the market that I assume probably work as well, however most that I have looked at are primarily silicone based products which I find will dry out my hair and cause other problems.  But they might work for you, since you hair may be a bit less dry than mine.

Thanks Bikerbraid, I'll have to try some aloe vera.  Your hair looks very similar to mine and as winter comes it will dry out alot on its own.

The winter air really dries my hair out.  Static is a significant issue for me.  I have found the a little extra jojoba oil helps keep my hair from drying out, which in turn helps prevent the static.  The oils is used only on the length (below the ears), so the greasies don't take over.  :D

Aubrey's Mandarin Magic used to be pretty good - they are re-formulating though so who knows.

I have a wild head of fuzz too and I have decided to like it that way.  What can ya do, g

I have the same problem, all around my face. I look as if windblown all the time. I really hate that and always had.
Just by chance I discovered that the  pantene-proV stuff that is for "refreshing hair without shampoo" controlled all my flyaway hair and I liked the result so much that i postponed washing my hair for two days. I don't ever remember my face without all that hair around except in the rarest of rare occasions I had been in a salon. But I will refrain from using it often, as I decided I, too, will grow my hair out. So better keep that for that special occasion.

Thanks Gabi and Greek Lady.  I can't wait to try these new products.
