hello everyone!

I'm a month overdue for my 1/4 inch trim that I usually get every 10 weeks.  I'm just tired of having a fifteen minute conversation with the stylist every time about how I'm working on growing my hair out longer, and then worrying the entire time that they are going to cut off several inches.  

Neither my mom or SO will trim my hair for me, they are both too scared they'll trim too much.

I read somewhere that if I flip my head over and trim the ends I'll end up with a natural bell curve.  Has anyone every tried this?

Here's a method for trimming your own hair.  I've not tried it myself, but I know of others who have and say it works great.  Good luck!

Valerie, about the bell curve method you mentioned-- If you did that, it would result in a heck-of-a-lot of layering. Tonight I'm going to bend over and wet my hair, to see what kind of curve I get. Then I'll be sure to post an update 8)

??? I used that method once, and didn't end up with a lot of layering. Of course, I was also being really cautious not to overdo it, just for that reason.  ::)

Whoops, I meant if I were to bend over and do a completely blunt cut. Hence the "dipping into water". I think there would be reverse layering there, or at least a "reverse bell curve"-- something we definitely don't want. Then again, if you did a U shaped or V shaped cut while bent over, you'd probably get something closer to a blunted U or even a blunt.

A woman I knew back in the seventies had bsl hair and decided to give herself a shag. She pulled it up in a ponytail on top of her head and blunt cut the ponytail. Voila! The perfect shag.
